VIOLETA

I couldn’t take my eyes off the sky.

It was like a dream.

The way the stars moved, the way they sparkled and shot across the dark sky like they had somewhere important to be… it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

I didn’t even realize that Damien had moved. I didn’t notice him spreading out something on the ground. I was too busy staring, mouth open, arms hanging by my sides, completely frozen in the magic of it all.

“Hey,” he called softly, tapping my shoulder.

I blinked and turned to him slowly, like I was still in a trance. “Huh?”

He smiled and then pointed down. “I… set up a little something. Since you’re already here, and the stars are giving us a show. Might as well enjoy it properly.”

I looked down and saw a blanket neatly spread on the grass. And on it was a small basket. The lid was open, and inside I could already spot some snacks and two bottles of water.

“You did this?” I asked, confused.

He nodded, rubbing the back of his neck like he was nervous. “Yeah

  • The scarred Luna    CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

VIOLETAMy hands were still shaking.Even after walking away from the tents. Even after leaving the soldiers behind. Even after leaving Damien and Ariana standing there.I couldn’t breathe properly. My chest was too tight. My legs felt weak, like they could give out at any time. I walked deeper into the trees, past the last of the warrior guards and into a quiet part of the Oak border. There were big trees here, their thick branches stretching up into the cloudy sky. Everything smelled like dirt and ash. Like something had died and left its pain behind.I leaned against one of the trees and slid down slowly until I was sitting on the ground. The coldness of the soil seeped into my skin, but I didn’t care. I pressed my palms against my face, trying to stop the tears from falling, but it was too late. They were already falling. Big, hot, stupid tears. One of the soldiers died right in front of me. Right there. While I was kneeling beside him.And I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t save

  • The scarred Luna    CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

VIOLETAA knock on my bedroom door disrupted my nap. It was still five am in the morning, and I wasn't supposed to leave for the pack border until it was seven am. Who the hell cut my sleep so short?I opened the door, but to my awe, I found Princess Thania. She was still in her nightwear, and she gave me a small smile. The sleep vanished from my body almost immediately. “Princess Thania—Good morbing. What are you doing here so early in the morning?”She entered my room and sat on the bed. “Don't be so modest, Violeta. Can you call me Thanis instead? It's weird having my best friend call me either title.”My stomach churned. At the thought. It was like I was leaping forward into a new dimension and relationship by calling her by her name. I admit it was a relationship I wasn't ready for—not after what I had discovered.I shook my head in disagreement. “I couldn't possibly, Princess Thania. You own a title, and you deserve respect, besides—I'm just a lowlife you saved,” I reminded her.

  • The scarred Luna    CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

VIOLETAAfter the party that night, Violeta picked up the empty cups from the floor, placing them gently on the tray she was carrying. The ballroom was much quieter now. The music had stopped. Most of the guests had already left, and the maids were walking around, trying to tidy things up.Violeta wiped sweat off her forehead and looked around. “There’s still so much to clean,” she whispered to herself. One of the older maids looked at her with tired eyes. “You should go and rest, miss. We can handle it.”But Violeta shook her head. “No, I want to help.”The maid gave her a small smile before going back to folding napkins.Earlier, Princess Thania had frowned when Violeta told her she wanted to stay behind and help clean up. “You’re not a maid, Violeta,” she had said, her voice sounding annoyed. “You’re supposed to enjoy the party, not clean up after it.”But Violeta had smiled and replied, “I know, but I don’t feel right just walking away. I want to help. Please?”Princess Thania had

  • The scarred Luna    CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

VIOLETA I stayed in my room all day after what happened. My heart just couldn’t stay calm. It kept beating fast, like I had done something wrong. I lay on my bed, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, but my mind wasn’t even there. My body was tired, but my head was still thinking too much. I couldn’t forget the way Alpha Ragnar looked at me. The way his eyes stared into mine like he had seen something. Like he knew me.I turned to my side and hugged my pillow tighter. I couldn’t help it. My hands were shaking. My legs too. That look on his face didn’t feel like just some normal look. No. It felt like he was searching me with his eyes. Like he saw through me. Like he saw the girl behind the healer. The girl I really was. And that scared me more than anything.“What if he knows?” I whispered to myself, but it came out loud enough for me to hear it clearly. “What if he knows who I really am?”I sat up slowly and looked around the room like someone was hiding in the corner. But no o

  • The scarred Luna    CHAPTER TWENTY

VIOLETAIt’s been three days since Princess Thania left. Three slow, quiet, and boring days. The pack didn’t feel the same without her loud laugh and silly jokes. Everything just felt… dull. I tried to stay busy, but nothing worked.I missed her.The first day was hard, but I thought maybe I’d get used to it. I didn’t. The second day was worse, and by the third day, I stopped trying to pretend I was fine.Alpha Nathan hadn’t said more than three words to me since that day we talked. He didn’t come around me, and even when we bumped into each other in the hallway, he just gave me a stiff nod and walked away.It was like everyone was busy with something—except me. I was just... here. Waiting for something to happen.I sat on my bed, staring at the ceiling, hugging the pillow that still smelled faintly like the perfume Princess Thania always wore.Just then, there was a knock on the door. I sat up quickly. My heart jumped a little, thinking maybe—just maybe—it was her.“Who is it?” I cal
