the unexpected birthday

Elizabeth went and took a long, hot bath trying to wrap her head around everything that was just explained to her. Rosie talking to her and trying to help her answering every question the best she could. “Rosie, how does one find their mate?” Elizabeth asked her after finally accepting the truth. “Well Lizzy, finding a mate is different for every person. Just know that when it does happen, you’ll know, it will be like a magnet pulling the two of you together like missing pieces. He will complete you and you him. It is a magical connection brought by the moon goddess. She decides mates and perfectly matches every wolf to their own other half. Does that help?” Rosie asked a still confused Elizabeth. She thought about it and it did make sense, well as much as any of the rest of it did. “Ok Rosie, my last question for now. How do we find my father?” Rosie thought about it for a minute and wasn’t sure “I say we ask your mom to bring us to him. If she is his mate it might do them both good to see each other again. And who knows maybe our mate will be around.” Elizabeth thought about that for a second, she didn’t think she could make her mother do that. Not yet anyway. She would let this all sit for a day and just enjoy her birthday just her and her mom, and Rosie too.

She got out of the tub and got dressed for the day, she felt like dressing up so she wore her favorite black shirt that is a little tight in the chest, it had beautiful silver and gold swirls in the top corner, and to go with it her best fitting pair of jeans. As she looked in the mirror  she thought she looked amazing, and she felt amazing. With Rosie’s approval of her outfit, she heads downstairs and sees her mother laying on the couch watching television. Lily hears Elizabeth approaching and looks at her hoping to not see anger in her daughter's eyes. “Hey mom, um, did you still want to go shopping?” m Elizabeth asked her mother. “Wow Lizzy, you look amazing! Of course, I’m ready. I wasn’t sure you still wanted to go. Let me just throw my shoes on.” Lily said as she smiled. Maybe everything will be okay she thought to herself. Quickly putting on her shoes she grabbed her car keys and off they went.

The mall was packed when they got there. It took a while to find a parking space, but they did. As they headed inside Rosie started sinning in circles inside Lizzy’s head. “What’s up with you Rosie?” Elizabeth asked her pacing friend. “I’m not sure, there’s something in the air and it’s driving me crazy!” Rosie couldn’t stop moving. Once they got inside a smell hit Elizabeths nose, Rosie stopped as did Elizabeth. Lily looked at her daughter shock filled her face. “What do you smell Lizzy?” her mom asked her knowing what the answer would be just by looking at her daughter's face.

 “Mate” was her only response
