A Promise

[Mykel’s POV]

I kept my gaze fixed on Amya’s as she considered my words. Would she agree or would she say no? As much as I wanted to stay here in this world with her, it would only open up the possibility of her being destroyed. The more people keeping the beasts at bay, the better.

"Is that really what you want?" She asked quietly, lifting her large crimson eyes to meet mine. "What if something happens to you?"

Was it? If it meant ensuring that she would be here with me for the rest of our existence, then yes, it was. I didn't give a damn if something happened to me as long as she was happy and healthy.

"I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

Nodding, Amya collapsed against me and took in a few soothing breaths.

"Then I’ll send you to them."

"Wait," I gasped as I felt the familiar tug that meant I was about to go to the oasis. "Not yet."

Right now, my main focus was making sure that Amya was okay. How could I possibly leave her after she was throwing up blood?
