“I want you to fuck me.”
I said those words to a stranger with my back pressed against the cool wall, while the heat from his skin branded mine.
“Still thinking about leaving?” he whispered. The words were a soft tickle against my skin that sent shivers down my spine.
He noticed the hesitation I tried to hide. One of his hands remained on my waist, while the other worked its way up my thighs. He began rubbing my already swollen clit and a soft moan broke from my lips. I shouldn't have let him touch me, yet my fingers only curled tighter at my sides, as if I were holding onto the last thread of control I had left.
His lips caressed my neck slowly while I arched my body, craving more. He knew exactly what he was doing to me, and he was clearly enjoying it.
“Careful,” he murmured.
“Or what?” I breathed.
That almost-smile returned. He leaned in closer, his breath hot against my ear. “Or you won’t want to stop.”
“Who says I want to?”
He didn't hesitate. He thrust himself into my dripping heat, filling me completely.
FLASHBACK — EARLIER THAT NIGHT
It started with a phone call.
"I’m sorry, June. We’re letting you go."
Just like that—gone. The one job keeping my human life from falling apart, was over in a ten-second conversation.
I stood there for a long time after the call ended, staring at nothing. I looked around the small apartment I could barely afford and watched the life I had built, piece by careful piece, slip through my fingers. Rent was due in two weeks. My savings were a joke. And for the first time in years, I didn't have a plan.
So, I did something I don’t usually do. Something reckless. I went out.
The music was loud, the lights were dim, and I was surrounded by expensive drinks I had no business ordering. I sat at the counter, staring into my glass longer than necessary. I wasn't drinking much, just enough to take the edge off. Just enough to quiet the constant, scratching noise in my head. I adjusted the strap of my dress, trying not to look like I didn't belong. Because I didn’t.
“Relax.”
The voice came from beside me, smooth and amused. I turned slightly, forcing a polite smile. “I am relaxed.”
He raised a brow, clearly unimpressed by the lie. "You look like you’re thinking too much."
"I usually am," I admitted.
He let out a soft exhale, almost like a quiet laugh.
"Bad habit."
That made me glance over. Just once. That was my first mistake. He wasn’t trying to be noticed, that was the problem. He didn’t need to be. He was dangerously handsome in a way that stopped me mid-breath.
His gaze met mine, steady and unyielding, like he already knew I wouldn’t be able to break it. And the worst part? He was right. I was lost in his eyes until I really saw their color.
*Damn. No wonder he looks rich and hot. He’s a wolf.*
He wasn't asking for permission to look. For a second, I forgot about the rent and the pink slip. I forgot everything.
"You always stare at strangers?" I asked, breaking the silence first.
One corner of his mouth lifted slightly.
"Only the interesting ones."
"Then you must not meet many people."
That almost-smile appeared again. He leaned in, just enough to close the distance. His presence felt sharper now, looming over me until I had to tilt my head back to meet his gaze.
"On the contrary," he said. "I just don’t see many worth noticing.”
I turned back to my drink, but I could still feel him there. He was too close, too aware of me.
"Rough night?" he asked.
I exhaled slowly. "Something like that."
"Want to talk about it?"
"No."
A pause stretched between us. Then he said,
"Good."
I looked at him again, frowning. "Why?"
"Because I wasn’t asking out of concern."
"Then why ask?"
He held my gaze, unblinking and certain.
"Because I wanted to see if you’d lie."
My pulse skipped. "And?"
A beat. "You didn’t."
His gaze dropped briefly, taking me in. It didn't feel cheap; it felt intense. Attractive.
“You don’t belong here.”
"Then maybe I should leave," I said. But I didn't move. Neither did he.
"Maybe," he agreed.
His eyes didn’t let go of mine until they dropped to my lips.
BACK TO PRESENT
“June.”
I picked up the phone, trying to blink myself awake.
“Am I speaking with June Harper, please?” the voice on the other end asked impatiently.
"Yes."
"Your application to Grayson Group has been approved. You are expected to show up at the office tomorrow for your appointment letter. Bring your resume immediately.”
“My God, thank you! I'll be there."
I ended the call, my heart racing with relief. I had applied to Grayson Group months ago just for the sake of trying. I never actually expected them to pick a human, especially not one from the lower class.
I turned back toward the bed, only to find an empty space and the wrinkled sheets staring back at me.
“What the fuck? He left?"
Great work, June. You finally landed a big fish, and you couldn't even keep him. I pulled my hand over my face in disappointment. I got up and started gathering my clothes, which were scattered across the room. The night before was a blur of pleasure and a massive mistake. Who hooks up with a complete stranger?
But I couldn't deny it, he was hot, and I had secretly hoped I’d see him again. I rushed to clean up, wondering how I was going to pay for the room when a knock came at the door.
I opened it to find a staff member. “June Harper?"
“Uhm, yes?"
“Mr. Reed asked me to give this to you.“
He handed me an envelope. Before I could ask how they knew my name or who Mr. Reed was, the man turned and left. I was left standing there with damp hair and a hotel robe, completely confused.
I hurriedly tore open the letter.
> “I had a great time, June. It would be a pleasure to meet you again.
> — R.”
> P.S: I also paid for the room.
So, my one-night stand is Mr. Reed. But how the hell did he know my name?
June's pov"Take off your clothes."I nearly dropped the glass of water I was holding. I gasped, coughing slightly as a few drops spilled onto my shirt. The woman standing in the middle of my bedroom didn't even blink. She was impeccably dressed in a sharp grey pantsuit, her silver hair pulled back into a tight, flawless bun. Behind her, three younger assistants stood in a straight line, holding massive, heavy garment bags."Excuse me?" I asked, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand."Mr. Grayson paid forty thousand dollars for that dress," she said flatly, checking a sleek tablet in her hand. "And I need to make sure it fits perfectly. We have exactly four hours before the Gala. Strip, please."My jaw dropped. I had never experienced anything like this in my life. Before I could even protest, the woman waved her hand, and the assistants moved in like a well-trained military unit. For the next three hours, my bedroom was turned into a high-end luxury salon. I was poked, prodded, br
June's povI didn't sleep at all that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing Blake’s dark, serious face or Nathan’s wicked smile. When the clock finally struck twelve, I was standing outside his heavy oak office door. I took a deep breath, knocked once, and pushed it open.Blake was sitting behind his massive desk. He looked immaculate, his black suit perfectly tailored, but there was a dangerous edge to his posture. He didn't look up immediately. He finished typing something on his laptop, closed it with a soft click, and then fixed his dark, intense gaze on me."Sit down, June," he said, his voice a low, commanding baritone.I walked over and sat in the leather chair across from him, crossing my legs tightly. I wanted to look brave, but my heart was hammering against my ribs. "Are you going to fire me?" I asked, getting straight to the point. "Or is this where you cancel the contract?"Blake leaned back in his chair, a cold, dark smile touching his lips. "Cancel the con
June's pov "Put that photograph down, June."Nathan’s voice didn't sound like him at all. It was too quiet. Instead of putting it down, I gripped the silver frame tighter. "You three looked really close," I whispered, looking from the bright, laughing faces in the picture to the dark, rigid expression on his face. "You, Blake, and Parker. What did you do to each other?"Nathan didn't answer with words. In two long strides, he crossed the floor of the loft. Before I could even blink, his large hand clamped over mine, his long fingers forcing my grip off the silver frame. He used his bulk to crowd me, pressing his chest right against mine until the small of my back hit the bookshelf. The heavy books rattled behind my head."I told you to put it down," he breathed, his face inches from mine. The air between us instantly turned hot. "You're hurting me," I lied, my voice dropping to a breathy whisper.Nathan’s eyes darkened, turning a shade of amber that made my knees weak. He didn't
June's pov"You have exactly five minutes to get dressed before I leave without you."I groaned loudly into my pillow, pulling the blanket over my head to block out the light. "Good. Leave.""You're coming with me," Nathan said, his voice dropping all its usual playfulness.I rolled over, my eyes squinting against the bright morning sun. Nathan was standing in my bedroom doorway again. "Why?" I asked, sitting up and pushing my hair out of my face.Nathan grinned, a wicked spark in his eyes. "Because my brother would absolutely hate it."That was honestly the strongest argument he had made all week.Forty minutes later, I found myself sitting in the passenger seat of Nathan's sleek black SUV while the busy city streets stretched out around us. Blake had already left the estate hours ago for his urgent board meeting. Nathan had apparently taken his brother’s absence as a personal invitation to take me out of the mansion."So, where exactly are we going?" I asked, looking out the window
