LOGINDragged by several people, it felt like being carried into a grave without a coffin. No matter how hard I fought against Nathaniel and his gang, they pressed harder, leaving me helpless.
I resisted—there was a hard slap across my cheek. I fought again—another slap on the other side. No one helped. No one even cared. The faces I passed in the corridor only stared blankly, as if I were nothing more than a filthy animal not worth saving. My whole body ached from struggling until my last bit of strength was gone. Nathaniel and his gang hauled me all the way down to the lowest floor, through endless corridors, and out to the academy’s back garden. The sky above was already dark, the garden lights glowing faintly, their reflections shimmering on the surface of a decorative pond. I was half-thrown to the side of it. “Get up, Anastasia.” Nathaniel’s voice teased me. My hands shook as I tried to push myself up. Fear and dread made me want to give in. I couldn’t even cry. “Anna? You hear me? What are you, deaf?” Nathaniel chuckled softly. “What do you want?” I hissed, forcing myself to look at Nathaniel standing arrogantly over me. “How funny, as if you don’t have sins.” My fear turned into despair. Even if I defended myself, I knew I wouldn’t make it out alive. They wanted to torture me. I laughed bitterly. “We’re all sinners, Nathaniel. You talk about sins? Why don’t you try saying that in front of a mirror?” “You!” he snapped. “Get her up! We’ll drown her!” What? My breath caught in my throat. I scrambled to run, but my arms and legs were already seized. They lifted me again, carrying me like a sacrificial lamb. I screamed at the top of my lungs, hoping someone would hear. But no one came. My cries only fueled Nathaniel and his gang’s excitement. They laughed as if I were nothing more than a toy. They dragged me into the indoor pool and threw me roughly to the edge. My body felt shattered, my muscles strained, every nerve screaming. “Why are you here? Spying on us? So you can tattle to your father?” Nathaniel paced, his footsteps echoing with menace. “Don’t flatter yourself. I don’t care about you,” I spat. “You or Gabriel.” “Really? Out of all the academies in the world… why Bastorin?” How was I supposed to know the twins would be here? If I’d known from the start, I would’ve rather become a nun. “What are you after here?” Nathaniel pressed. “Think about it.” My hands trembled as I tried to push myself upright against the cold floor. “You think I came here to find peace?” I raised my head, staring at Nathaniel’s furrowed brow. “I came here for revenge! I will win! I’ll destroy you and your mother from the Lancroft family!!” I screamed furiously. Grab! Nathaniel’s hand clamped around my throat. “You wretched bitch!” His grip crushed the air out of me. I clawed at his arm, but my blows were useless. My body was dragged back and— I flew for a split second in the air before crashing into the pool. The icy water stung, my nose burned, and water rushed down my throat. No! Help! I thrashed, arms and legs kicking, but I sank deeper. My lungs filled with water. Pain! Pain! Someone help me! My vision blurred—suddenly, an arm wrapped tight around my waist from behind. My body surged upward as someone dragged me toward the surface. Breaking through the water, I gasped for air, coughing violently, clinging to the pool’s edge with shaking hands, too weak to climb out. Around me—no one. Just footsteps fading away. Damn it! Nathaniel really did mean to kill me here! “Get up,” a deep voice commanded from behind. With effort, I climbed out, pushed by him. When I turned toward the pool, my eyes widened. Standing before me was the school council president. Alexei. His face was so close I could see every detail. “Attempted suicide?” His eyes were cold. “I-I…” I stammered. Alexei placed his hands on the pool’s edge and pulled himself out with ease. His shirt and trousers clung to him, soaked, outlining the sculpted body beneath. “Can you stand, Anastasia?” Something inside me froze. I could only stare as Alexei crouched slightly, then scooped me into his arms. My body stiffened, but I couldn’t say a word. Couldn’t even resist. He carried me out of the pool area, down a dimly lit path, through another door into the academy. I thought he would take me to the infirmary, but he kept walking steadily, as if I weighed nothing at all. Finally, we reached his office, the door half-open. He stepped inside and lay me gently on the sofa. Water dripped from my clothes, pooling on the floor. My gaze followed him as he closed the door, then slipped off his shoes and socks. “Can you tell me what you were doing out there, Anastasia?” He walked to the fireplace, throwing in logs. I could only watch his back. “It was Nathaniel and his friends. They pushed me into the pool,” I said softly. “And you can’t swim?” He extended an arm, dropping his soaked shirt to the floor, exposing his broad shoulders and strong back. I shook my head. “No, sir.” When Alexei turned around, I flinched. His body was perfection, divine. My eyes refused to look away. His chest, his abs—I couldn’t stop staring. “And who do you think is at fault?” he asked. I shook my head again. “I’m not sure. Nathaniel?” Alexei strode toward me, his piercing gaze terrifying. “It’s your fault. You should’ve been able to swim.” What? Nathaniel and his friends had bullied me, tried to kill me—and he blamed me because I couldn’t swim?! But my tongue was tied. I couldn’t argue back. “You want to be a winner, don’t you? Winners take it all. No weaknesses allowed. Even if you’re bloodied, Anastasia.” “I understand, sir.” Alexei cupped my chin, his cold fingers forcing me to look up into his eyes. “Take off your clothes, Anastasia,” he whispered. I jolted. What? Why would he say that to me? “You hear me, don’t you? You want to be a winner?” I swallowed hard. “Why do I have to take off my clothes?” “Don’t question my order, Anastasia. Do what I told you. Now—take off your clothes…”The sound of my shoes scraped softly against the salted pedestrian path, the grains of salt crunching under each step to keep the walkway from getting slippery. Along the path, I saw neatly trimmed shrubs and tall, thick trees. Up ahead, the snow-covered peak of the pavilion roof peeked through. The pavilion looked almost like a greenhouse, since nearly the entire structure was made of glass. Inside, I could see figures gathered—some lounging on couches, some playing billiards, others sitting on tall barstools facing the bar counter. As soon as the twins and I entered, the maid gave a polite nod to everyone present.“Miss Anastasia, Master Gabriel, and Master Nathaniel Lancroft have arrived,” she announced.I lifted my chin slightly, letting my gaze sweep across the room. And, of course—just my luck—I spotted Victoria and Dimitri as well. I should have known they would be here. Besides the two of them, I also saw Tisha among the group. The moment the three of us appeared, Tisha immedi
The dark brown fur cloak looked stark against the snowfall around him. I saw Father standing there, waiting for our arrival in a courtyard almost entirely covered in white. As soon as we stepped out, he gave a small smile.I'd never seen Father smile. Now, he looked almost… happy to see me. Or maybe it was because of the twins? My steps halted, letting Nathaniel and Gabriel walk ahead. I lowered my gaze and headed toward Father, who was waiting for us."Anna," he suddenly called.I lifted my head, seeing his short nod. This is weird. He never greets me first; it's always the twins. I suddenly felt awkward, unsure of what to do."Father," I replied politely."How was your trip, Gabriel, Nathaniel?" Father's voice was flat as usual. But I knew his question was a form of concern."Not bad." Nathaniel gave a thin smile. "But it's quite cold.""Oh, come on, get inside. The others are waiting for you," Father said. The three of them walked side by side, while I followed behind. Father glanc
The first snowfall came on the day all the students were getting ready to go home. This long break was going to torture me, because it meant I wouldn’t see Alexei for a while. As I carried my suitcase down the stairs, Gabriel suddenly appeared and grabbed it from my hand.“I can do it myself, Gabriel,” I said, trying not to sound annoyed.Gabriel glanced at me briefly, then continued down the stairs. Nathaniel walked beside me, glaring with that mocking smirk of his.“I don’t know what my brother sees in you. I’d never be a stupid dog like him, treating you like his master,” he hissed.I gritted my teeth. “I never treated Gabriel like a dog. Just shut your mouth.”Nathaniel’s quiet, mocking laugh cut deeper than I wanted to admit. Even though I tried to ignore him, it stung. Everything Gabriel and I had been through—yes, I cared for him. But not because of whatever “loyal dog” nonsense Nathaniel believed. When we reached the first floor, I saw Alexei standing near the entrance. He was
The silent treatment between me and Isolde felt awful. Every time I tried to talk to her, she immediately dodged me—acting like I didn’t exist. And yeah, it sucked. If from the start we were just roommates who didn’t care about each other’s business, I could deal with that. But we’re friends now. Having this kind of tension between us just made everything feel worse.I was lonely. Isolde kept avoiding me. I kept ignoring the twins. And I couldn’t just walk into Alexei’s office whenever I wanted; that would start rumors all over the academy. If I were already out of Bastorin, I could openly show our relationship. At least… I hoped so.Who knows, maybe after spending days with Alexei, I wouldn’t even get that moment. Mainly, if Alexei stayed stuck in Nightshade.I entered my room and found it empty. Lately, Isolde has always left early and returned only when it is time to sleep. We were practically strangers now. God, how long was this going to last?As soon as I sat on the edge of my
GABRIEL POV“Gabriel!”Master’s voice cracked like a warning, freezing me in place. Every eye turned toward me in confusion, while another student groaned in pain inside the ring. My shoulders slumped, and I immediately removed my gloves before stepping out of the ring.“Gabriel! Stop right there!” The second warning.I halted, and Master Karr shook his head in frustration. I met his eyes, keeping my lips tightly pressed.“This is a sparring match, not a death match. I have warned you over and over again, yet you continue to ignore my warnings,” Master Karr said firmly.“I am sorry, Master.”“Detention. Report to your dorm leader and let him decide what punishment you will serve.”I nodded quickly. “Yes.”Leaving the battle class, I hurried toward the dormitory. As I turned the corner, I ran right into Isolde, who was clutching her books and walking in a rush. She glanced at me briefly, clearly annoyed.“Isolde,” I called. The girl stopped and looked back at me. “What do you want?”“C
“Like I said, there is corruption spreading inside Nightshade. I know it will not be long before it contaminates everything. What I fear is that all of you will become the targets,” Alexei said.Tisha scoffed softly. “We are only students, for God’s sake!”“But your family holds tremendous influence in Nightshade. Especially your father.”“You mean… someone is targeting us, sir?” Tisha’s face turned pale.“That is still under my investigation.”The three of us exchanged glances, except Gabriel. Somehow, Gabriel kept staring straight at Alexei, as if he were examining something. He had been silent the entire time, showing no expression whatsoever. I heard Nathaniel scoff irritably again.“So what? Hasn’t this already been our risk since birth? Living constantly under threat?” Nathaniel clicked his tongue. “If this program is terminated, then what is the point? We are still going to be in danger anyway.”“I do not want to take that risk. Because all of you are meant to become future lea
