PIPER’S POV

The moment the words slipped from my mouth, I regretted them. I hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but the silence in the room made it impossible to swallow them back. His eyes locked onto mine, sharp and unblinking, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.

“Explain in detail,” he said, his voice steady, calm…too calm for what I had just confessed.

My lips trembled, but I forced myself to speak. I told him everything. From the moment it started, how fear had gripped me, how things had spiraled, and how I had reacted without even thinking.

The words poured out of me in a rush. I didn’t leave anything out, not the shaking of my hands, not the way my chest had tightened, not the overwhelming terror that I would be the one lying lifeless if I hadn’t done what I did.

When I finally stopped, my throat felt dry, like I had swallowed sand. My heart pounded against my ribs, waiting for judgment, waiting for his reaction.

He leaned back slowly, studying me with those piercing eyes

  • Ties That Bind   CONFRONTING THE TRUTH

LIA’S POV Steven walked in without knocking, as though the walls of my world belonged to him too. He had that same calm swagger, that irritating half-smile that never reached his eyes. For a brief second, I wished he would just keep walking, that he wouldn’t stop and bring the storm with him. But of course, he did. He leaned against the doorframe, arms folded casually across his chest, and said the one thing I couldn’t stand.“Chill, Lia. You’re blowing this out of proportion. It wasn’t anything serious. I saw it from far off when Thames left. Trust me, you don’t need to be worried.”His words were like cold water poured over a flame. Dismissing. Diminishing. I spun around to face him, anger sparking instantly. “Don’t tell me to chill, Steven!” My voice cracked in the middle, high with panic, I had a thing for him but he sure did know well how to get on my nerves to even make me forget that I have something for him. “You don’t get it. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s nothing.

  • Ties That Bind   DANGER

PIPER’S POVThe walk back to the resort felt like a blur. My feet moved, but my mind wasn’t with me. My heart was pounding so hard I thought the whole street could hear it. The sky above was beautiful—gold fading into orange as the sun sank but I couldn’t even see it. All I could see was blood, his face, his body lying there in the cave. When I finally reached my room, my hands shook as I fumbled with the keycard. The door opened, and I rushed inside, shutting it quickly behind me like I was keeping out ghosts. My chest felt tight, air catching in my throat.I went straight to the small fridge, pulled out a bottle of wine, and poured myself a glass with trembling hands. The red liquid swirled in the cup, but even as I gulped it down, it did nothing. My nerves were still on fire. My skin burned hot, sweat dampening my hairline.“God…” I whispered, pressing the glass to my forehead. “What do I do now?”The wine wasn’t enough. Nothing could drown this.I stripped off my clothes and ran

  • Ties That Bind   LIA’S REVEAL

LIA’S POVI was pacing around the house, my slippers dragging noisily across the tiled floor. My chest rose and fell quickly, like the walls themselves were closing in on me. Every corner of the house reminded me of the emptiness in my pockets. The bills are piling up. My own reflection in the mirror, hair rough, face tired, eyes sunken from worry.I grabbed my phone again and dialed. It rang and rang. No answer. I tried again. Still nothing.“Pick up, Piper ,” I whispered into the phone. “Just pick up this once.”But silence was all I got. My daughter wasn’t answering me, and I knew why. The last time I went to her place, it was awkward. I begged. She had turned me away. Since then, she has gone cold on me.I threw the phone onto the couch with a frustrated groan and kept pacing. My palms were sweating, my thoughts racing. That was when the door creaked open, and Thames walked in. My husband.“Lia?” he said, surprise flashing on his face when he saw me pacing. “What’s wrong with you

  • Ties That Bind   BLOOD IN THE CAVE

PIPER’S POVThe morning sun glittered across the resort’s pool, bouncing on the surface like diamonds. I stared out from my balcony, clutching a towel in my hand. My phone buzzed again, his name flashing on the screen.Him: Don’t forget, today’s the day. Jet skiing. You promised.I exhaled slowly. Maybe I hadn’t technically promised, but I hadn’t said no either. And truth be told, something inside me wanted the thrill, the distraction. Rowan wasn’t here. My thoughts about him had become heavier each night, and this was the only thing that gave me a little space to breathe.“Fine,” I muttered to myself, replying:Me: Alright. I’ll meet you at the dock. The water was endless, blue stretching as far as my eyes could see. The wind brushed against my skin as I held onto the handle of the jet ski, laughing against my will as the machine sliced through waves. He was beside me, his laughter echoing as we raced across the surface. From the beauty I saw I made up my mind to go to more resorts t

  • Ties That Bind   A DISTRACTION

PIPER’S POVThe moment I turned and saw him at the resort, my heart skipped. For a second, I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. The same guy from the restaurant…of all places, all times…standing right there in South Africa.“Piper?” His voice carried surprise, but also a warm familiarity, the kind that made me hesitate before answering.“Yes,” I managed, forcing a small smile. “It’s… you.”He laughed softly, shaking his head. “Wow, what are the odds? Last time I saw you, we were across yunno at the bar. And now…here?”“Life has a funny way of throwing coincidences at us,” I replied, trying to keep my tone casual. But inside, I felt a strange tug. Part of me wanted to ask him why fate kept crossing our paths, and another part of me reminded me sharply of Rowan. We walked a bit closer, away from the crowd at the resort lobby.“So, vacation?” I asked, breaking the silence.“Yes,” he nodded. “I needed a break, honestly. Work’s been suffocating, and my friends ditched me last
