The blueprints glowing across the multi-touch conference table looked like an intricate map of a digital fortress. To anyone else, the gleaming glass-and-steel schematic of the new Prakoso-Qistina headquarters represented the pinnacle of modern corporate architecture—a triumph of sleek lines, open-plan collaboration spaces, and cutting-edge environmental controls.

To Nurin, it was a weapon.

"You're actually going to build it," Bagas said, leaning against the edge of the glass partition with a steaming paper cup of cheap gas-station coffee in his hand. He squinted at the glowing holographic projection, shaking his head. "After everything Haris tried to pull with the SCBD grid, you're letting her design a literal high-tech panopticon for our flagship building?"

Galen didn't look up from his tablet. He was swiping through a secondary security overlay, his dark eyes tracking the encrypted subnetworks Nurin had embedded into the floor slabs and HVAC conduits. "It's not a panopticon, Bagas. It's a Trojan horse."

"Yeah, well, the last time someone brought a Trojan horse into a corporate headquarters, my server room nearly caught fire," Bagas muttered, taking a slow sip. "You sure you trust her not to brick our comms the second a quarterly earnings report dips?"

"She already proved she could burn the whole thing down and chose to hand me the matches instead," Galen replied smoothly, locking the tablet screen with a sharp click. "Besides, I like a woman who knows her way around a firewall."

The heavy frosted-glass doors of the private studio swung open, and Nurin walked in. She wore a tailored charcoal jumpsuit, her hair pulled back into a severe, sharp knot that screamed business, though there was a relaxed, mocking curve to her lips. In her hands, she carried a physical leather-bound portfolio—old school, deliberate, and entirely analog.

"Stop gossiping about my HVAC conduits, Bagas," Nurin said without breaking stride, tossing the thick leather portfolio onto the center of the table with a dull thud. "And for the record, the ventilation controls are designed to keep air circulating efficiently, not pump knockout gas into the executive suite. Though, given some of the board members we inherited from Haris, maybe I should reconsider."

Bagas choked on his coffee, coughing into his fist. "Right. Well. I'll just go check on the firewall... from another floor. Far away from here." He tossed his empty paper cup into the recycling bin and beat a hasty retreat, letting the glass doors slide shut behind him.

The private studio plunged into a heavy, charged silence. The tension between them wasn't the jagged, suffocating anxiety of their early days, nor was it the explosive, adrenaline-fueled panic of the warehouse shootout. It was a live wire—crackling with a dangerous, shared history and an undeniable, magnetic pull.

Galen stood up, walking slowly around the conference table until he was standing right beside her. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the edge of the leather portfolio. "You're cutting it close, Chief Designer. The board review is in twenty minutes, and you're still sneaking Easter eggs into the basement blueprints."

"They aren't Easter eggs, Mas. They're structural insurance," Nurin corrected, turning to face him. Her dark eyes sparkled with that familiar, reckless fire. "If Prakoso-Qistina Holdings is going to survive the next decade of corporate restructuring, the building needs to be able to lock down tighter than a Swiss vault. I added biometric kill-switches to every executive lift shaft."

"Including mine?"

"Especially yours," she murmured, a slow, teasing smile touching her lips as she leaned back against the edge of the glass table, closing the distance between their bodies. "Can't have my primary shareholder doing anything stupid like running into burning server rooms without a proper safety net."

Galen let out a low, gravelly laugh, his hands sliding around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. The crisp, professional fabric of her jumpsuit offered no barrier to the hard heat radiating from his frame. "I handled the server room just fine."

"You cracked a rib, Galen."

"And you got the files out." He leaned down, his lips hovering a millimeter from hers, his voice dropping into a rich, possessive murmur. "We make a terrifyingly efficient syndicate."

"A syndicate," she repeated, her breath catching as his thumb traced the delicate line of her jaw. "Is that what we are now? Organized crime with a Fortune 500 tax bracket?"

"We're whatever we need to be to stay untouchable."

The sharp buzz of the wall-mounted intercom cut through the quiet intimacy of the room.

"Mr. Prakoso? The board members are assembling in the main auditorium," Bagas’s voice squawked through the speaker. "And, uh... the representatives from the Jakarta Heritage Foundation just walked in. They look like they're ready to hand over the Menteng deeds ahead of schedule."

Nurin sighed, resting her forehead against Galen’s chest for a brief second before gently pushing herself out of his arms. She smoothed down the front of her jumpsuit, her professional mask sliding back into place with practiced ease—though the wicked glint in her eyes remained fully intact.

"Duty calls, CEO," she teased, picking up her leather portfolio and tucking it under her arm. "Let's go show the board what a real hostile takeover looks like."

Galen straightened his tie, a dangerous, victorious smirk spreading across his face as he followed her toward the double doors. The ghosts of the past were buried deep beneath concrete and steel, but the empire they were building on top of the ashes was entirely their own. And this time, no one was ever going to break the foundation.

  • Ties of Desire   25: The First Architect of War

The hum of the server racks in Bagas’s sub-basement bunker usually sounded like a steady heartbeat, but tonight it felt like a countdown. Galen Prakoso stood in front of the master terminal, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, watching the final encryption strings of Danuarta Holdings' secondary asset registry burn into digital ash."Everything is scrubbed, boss," Bagas muttered, leaning back in his ergonomic chair and rubbing his bloodshot eyes. "Every shadow account Haris and Julian ever touched has been routed through the federal forfeiture pool. Prakoso-Qistina Holdings officially owns ninety-four percent of the commercial real estate grid from Menteng down to the SCBD. You did

  • Ties of Desire   23: The Silent Partner

The descent in the private elevator felt entirely too fast, the digital floor numbers bleeding together in a blur of amber light as Galen Prakoso dropped toward the subterranean plaza. Every muscle in his body was coiled tight, the cold weight of the tactical shotgun in his grip acting as a physical anchor for the rage burning through his veins. Julian wanted a reckoning? Fine. He’d get one. But it wouldn't happen on Julian’s terms, and it certainly wouldn't end with Nurin walking out of those glass doors. When the elevator finally chimed and the doors glided open, the damp, chilled air of the underground parking level rushed in to meet him. Galen didn't hesitate. He stepped o

The rain returned with a vengeance just past midnight, drumming a furious, relentless tattoo against the floor-to-ceiling glass of the penthouse. Inside, the air was frozen. He hadn't moved an inch since the elevator doors had closed on Nurin's final, desperate question.Behind him, the soft rustle of fabric broke the heavy silence. Nurin didn't speak. She didn't try to close the distance between them this time. Instead, she walked over to the low mahogany coffee table, reached into the pocket of her trench coat, and pulled out a heavy, manila envelope bound with thick red twine.

  • Ties of Desire   21: The Pressure Cooker

The screech of federal sirens cut through the damp Menteng air like a jagged blade, instantly shattering the suffocating silence of the abandoned railway depot. His dark eyes remained locked on the space where Julian had just vanished into the shadows, the phantom echo of the man's voice still ringing in his skull. Your first husband. Nurin was my wife.
