Raven deflates, his words sending her back to the past. The reason why she had started all this in the first place. How is she going to tell him that her mind has been set on it since she found out that he died from wolfsbane poisoning? That she had decided to find a cure to wolfsbane to honour his death and make sure that she never has to lose anybody to the deadly poison again? That her world had shattered after she lost him and finding the cure had become her lifeline. It had become her purpose and what kept her living all this while. She cannot bring herself to tell him. She will just sound crazy, especially if he denies being Draco again. So she glances away from him, saying the closest thing to the truth that she can without lying to him outright. “The professor recruited me to create a vaccine for wolfsbane and that's why we have been working with it,” she explains simply. Raven carefully selects her words and keeps it simple in order not to create any holes for herself,
No, she cannot possibly go with him.It can't end like this. The plan is to test this drug and she needs to do it tonight. It may be the solution to the students dying left and right and she will do everything that is within her power to find out if she had something to do with it and hopefully put an end to it.First, she has to test the drug, but right now, Draco is between her and that happening. She heaves, watching his eyes as he shoves the drugs in his pocket and reaches for the cuffs around his belt.“Wait,” she says hastily, putting her hands behind her. She has no choice but to come clean with him if she will have a shot at defending herself, she just hopes that he at least hears her out.“I am not using those drugs.”“Hands,” he replies, giving her a blank look in return, doubt and disappointment written all over him.“Listen to me, please. I just want to run an experiment on it in the lab. It is very important that I do,” she tries to explain without giving too much away.“
Raven stares back at them with wide eyes. The first thought she processes is that she's in deep shit. It will only take a couple of seconds for them to find the drugs in her bag where she had hurriedly kept it in the cab. After that, she knows that she's done. The news would probably spread and she could even be taken in for questioning. It would be a mess. Which is why she hopes it remains in her imagination alone. There is no way she will allow them to search her. “No.” Carla tilts her head with a frown, looking as though it is even absurd to hear those words. “No?” Yet, Raven stands her ground. “It is past school hours so, no, you have no authority to search me right now.” She explains, keeping her tone firm. However, it doesn't change how her heart thuds against her chest and the turning of her stomach. If she gets caught, she cannot even begin to think of how she can get herself out of it. And there was no way in hell that Carla would listen to her anyway, she alrea
Raven tilts her head at his words, her lips pulling into a smirk.A glance behind her shows the professor with his jaw set in a clench, clearly displaying his anger. It seems as though he has chosen this moment to finally show his true colours. She knows fully well that he is very capable of doing as he says. Professors hold that sort of power over students and he seems to be taking the route of abusing his authority right now.Even if she takes it up with the school board, he still has a huge influence on the board with his high position but if that is the price she has to pay to stop whatever evil deed he was using her for, then so be it.She never came to college with a degree as the principal thing in her mind anyway, she had just fled to the farthest place from the pack to escape the memories that place reminded her of.Her childhood, Draco’s first confessions, all their favourite things, their hangout spots, all of it. Everything in the pack reminded her of Draco, and at that mo
“Professor McCall wants to see you, and it would be best if you come with me,” Linda is blunt and straight to the point. Raven stares at her for a moment without a word, but she knows what she has to do. There is no way she can possibly escape this now. “Let's go,” she mutters with a small frown before walking past her to the passenger side. The professor is already waiting when she arrives at his office. “You’re finally here, this time at least.” The expression on his face is nothing close to his usual friendly look and she realises that he has been wearing a mask with her all along. He does not seem to care about maintaining it anymore though. “Now, what am I hearing about a resignation? I thought we had a common goal, Raven?” he says in this eerie tone that creeps her out. “I am no longer interested in working on the project,” she answers simply, keeping her tone calm and polite. “What do you mean by you are no longer interested in working on the project? Do you know how many
“What’s the matter?” Raven asks with a confused frown. The man only gives her a blank look in return.“We would like it if you'd accompany us back to the station.”She opens her mouth to protest. But the second man quickly cuts her off.“You can either walk with us, or we will take you with cuffs around your wrist. Make your pick.”The whispers from the other students follow her as she walks out of the cafeteria with the men by her sides and she can feel the eyes of the other students boring into her back.Raven's mind races as she tries to figure out what could have led to this sudden interrogation. Could it have been the discovery of Scott's death? But what does that have to do with her? When they arrive at the station, she is immediately led into a small room with only a metal table and three chairs. The lights in the room were shining brightly and she was careful about not looking up at it."Please, have a seat," the first officer says.Raven obeys, sitting down with her hands fol
