Lydia POV

I didn’t turn around immediately.

“Who?”

“Theo.”

I slowly placed the pickle back on my plate.

Then I turned.

Dave was standing near the kitchen counter, watching me.

“What about him?”

“I don’t know him.”

“That sounds like a personal problem.”

His eyebrows pulled together.

“Lydia.”

I sighed. “What?”

“Who is he?”

I stared at him for a moment.

There it was.

That tone.

That subtle expectation that because we had once been married, he automatically deserved access to every part of my life.

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Staring

Lydia POVI didn’t turn around immediately.“Who?”“Theo.”I slowly placed the pickle back on my plate. Then I turned.Dave was standing near the kitchen counter, watching me.“What about him?”“I don’t know him.”“That sounds like a personal problem.”His eyebrows pulled together.“Lydia.”I sighed. “What?”“Who is he?”I stared at him for a moment. There it was. That tone. That subtle expectation that because we had once been married, he automatically deserved access to every part of my life.“Why?”“Because he’s here.”“So?”“He came to your house.”“Yes.”“He seems familiar with you.”I gave him a look.“I’m sorry. Am I supposed to submit a guest list to you?”“That isn’t what I’m saying.”“Because it sounds exactly like what you’re saying.”His jaw tightened.“I just want to know who spends time around my children.”“And you think I’m careless enough to bring random people around them?”“I didn’t say that.”“You didn’t have to.”The words came out sharper than I intended. For a s

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Always welcome?

Lydia POV“Hi, Theo, why are you here?” I said again He smiled. “Aren’t I welcome in your home?”I blinked. “You’re always welcome, but… I literally saw you yesterday.”“I know.”“And yet here you are.”“Yes.” His smile widened, completely unapologetic. “I’m a very busy man, as you know. Unfortunately, my schedule has brought me back to your doorstep.”I looked at the package in his hand. “Should I be worried?”“Not at all. Anna sent me.”Of course she did.I leaned against the doorframe and folded my arms. “What did she do now?”“She sent these.” He lifted the package slightly. “She said she promised you some homemade pickles.”I stared at him. Then at the package. Then back at him.“Pickles?”“Yes.”“Homemade pickles?”“Yes.”“The same pickles I can buy at a supermarket in less than five minutes?”Theo laughed under his breath. “Apparently.”“And probably for less than whatever she spent on that ridiculous packaging?”“I wouldn’t know.”“Because she made it sound like she was sendi

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Watch out

Dave POVThe acquisition had consumed the better part of my month.Every day seemed to begin with another meeting and end with another document waiting for my signature. We were upgrading several of our internal systems at the same time, which meant dealing with engineers, consultants, lawyers, investors, department heads, and enough technical jargon to make me question whether I had accidentally enrolled in another university degree. On top of that, government approval was still hanging over the entire project, and anyone who had ever dealt with government processes knew exactly what that meant: paperwork, meetings, revisions, more paperwork, and the occasional phone call that somehow created three more problems instead of solving the original one.I should have been focused entirely on it.Instead, there was a date sitting quietly at the back of my mind. This month.I was seeing my children this month.I didn’t care how complicated the acquisition became. I didn’t care how many meet

I heard him laughing. My stomach tightened. I didn’t know why that bothered me. I had no reason for it to bother me. Still… Something inside me shifted unpleasantly. I knocked. The room went quiet. “Come in.” I opened the door. Lydia looked toward me. Her phone was still in her hand. I smiled politely. “I just wanted to say goodnight.” Her expression softened. “Goodnight, Theo.” I hesitated. “I also wanted to apologize again.” “You don’t have to.” “I know.” “Your kids are incredible.” She smiled. “They are.” I looked back at her. For one strange second, I wanted to say something else. Something about Miranda. Something about Dave. Something about the way hearing his name had suddenly made me feel like a man who had no business feeling anything at all. Instead, I swallowed it. “Goodnight.” “Goodnight.” I left. The moment the door closed behind me, I stood in the hallway. What the hell was wrong with me? Why did the tho

Theo POV “Does any of that make sense to you?” She folded her arms. “You’re embarrassing me.” “No. You embarrassed yourself.” Her face hardened. “You’ve become so protective of Lydia.” “This has nothing to do with Lydia.” “Really?” “Yes.” “You didn’t even used to defend people like that.” “Because I didn’t have a reason to.” She scoffed. Then she went somewhere I never expected her to go. “You know what? Maybe I should remind you that there was a time when I was the one who had to deal with your issues.” My stomach dropped. “What does that have to do with this?” “You know exactly what I’m talking about.” I stared at her. She had brought up the accusations she’d once made during our custody battle. The old ones. The ones about my lifestyle. The ones she’d used to question my fitness as a father. The ones we’d spent months fighting over in court. “Don’t.” She looked away. “I’m just saying—” “Don’t.” My voice was colder this time.

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Neither spoke

Theo POVThe next afternoon, I drove to Miranda’s house to pick them up. The moment I stepped inside, I knew she’d decided to come. She appeared from the hallway dressed like she was attending a business luncheon instead of a children’s gathering. Miriam came running toward me. “Daddy!” I crouched immediately and caught her as she threw her arms around my neck. “Hey, princess.” She kissed my cheek. “I’ve been waiting.” “I know.” Miranda appeared behind her. “She’s been talking about it all morning.” I smiled politely. “Good.” The drive was mostly quiet. Miriam filled the silence with a detailed explanation of what she wanted to do when we arrived, while Miranda occasionally interrupted to remind her not to get too excited. I kept my eyes on the road. I already knew bringing Miranda was going to be complicated. I just hadn’t realized how complicated. The moment we arrived at Anna’s house, the atmosphere changed. Music played softly in the background. There were col
