Bea stood frozen, her chest tightening as she looked at her friend. The silence around them felt unbearable—heavy with grief and disbelief. She could barely breathe, watching the woman she’d laughed with, shared secrets with, now lying there pale and broken.

The baby her best friend had prayed for, waited for, dreamed about… was gone. Just like that. Bea wanted to say something—anything—but no words felt enough. All she could do was stay close, hoping her presence was enough to keep her friend from falling apart completely.

“Raven, you better listen to me! If you don’t stop hanging out with Caden Montclair, we’re over! I swear, I’ll cancel the engagement and disappear from your life for good! Don’t you dare test me, Raven! I mean it!”

“I can’t stay quiet anymore! Caden Montclair hurt you, and yet my fiancé, Raven Monteverde, still chooses to be friends with that bastard? Whose side is he even on?!”

---

Meanwhile, inside a private lounge of an exclusive club in Bonifacio Global City, the soft hum of classical music blended with the scent of expensive liquor and women’s perfume in the air. The atmosphere reeked of luxury and power, every laugh, every clink of glass, a quiet reminder that this was where the city’s elite came to play.

“Bro, what the hell did you do this time? Bea’s furious—she said she’s breaking up with me if I don’t stay away from you! Seriously, what kind of mess did you get us into now?”

Seriously, what’s her problem with Caden this time? Your fiancée acts like she’s in a constant competition with him! Come on, bro, be honest. Who’s it gonna be? Your precious Caden or your drama queen fiancée?”

“I don’t even know anymore, bro. She gets mad over everything! One minute she’s fine, next she’s losing it. I’m done, let her be. Let’s just drink.”

“Caden,” malambing niyang sabi, “can I be your date sa Montclair Gala this weekend?”

“I’ll have someone send you a gown tomorrow,”

Nakangiting tumili si Jessa, obvious ang excitement. “I knew you’d say yes. You never disappoint.”

“Uy, mukhang official na ‘to ah. Congratulations, Mrs. Soon-to-be Montclair!”

“Three years na rin naman since ‘yung agreement niyo, Caden. Time to finally move on, bro.

“Thanks, Dark, Raven. Alam mo naman, I waited long enough. This time, I’m not hiding behind anyone anymore.”

“Fuck—! Bro, guess what? Dr. Nova is coming back!”

Napalingon silang lahat.

“Renowned Filipino scientist Dr. Nova confirmed to attend next month’s Global Medical Summit.”

Napanganga si Raven. “Seriously? ‘Yung Dr. Nova? The one who came up with the lung cancer treatment formula?”

Tumango si Dark, halos nanginginig sa excitement. “Yes, bro! After three years of silence, she’s finally returning. Do you even know what this means?!”

Bakit kaya?

“I JUST wanted to talk to you properly… but you never gave me the chance...”He was tall and upright, and even beneath the dim glow of the bay lights, Caden Montclair carried a presence that could bend the air around him. Commanding. Heavy. Impossible to ignore.Talia’s breath softened into the wind as she asked, barely above a whisper. “Caden… alam mo ba kung paano magmahal?”The sea breeze howled as if trying to swallow her voice.Caden looked at her, really looked. A complicated expression flickered through his eyes, sharp then soft, then unreadable again. His Adam’s apple bobbed with the weight of unspoken words. Then silence.A long, cold silence that felt even harsher than the wind hitting their faces. He didn’t answer. He couldn’t.And that silence… was enough.Talia let out a small, hollow laugh, one corner of her mouth lifting in a smile that was calm, steady, yet painfully resigned.“So that’s it.” She nodded to herself.

A FAINT mix of coffee grounds and crisp cedarwood enveloped her, isang amoy na pamilyar kay Talia. At nang makita ng mga tao sa paligid kung sino ang lumapit, halos sabay-sabay silang umatras, clearing a path with instinctive caution.Talia stiffened. “C-Caden, what are you—”She lifted her hands to push against his firm chest, pero hindi siya natinag. Instead, his arm wrapped tighter around her waist, anchoring her in place, controlled, steady, pero may halatang pinipigilang galit sa bawat paghinga niya.He lowered his head, his breath brushing dangerously close to her ear.“You left me waiting.”His voice was low, gritted, restrained na parang bawat salita ay kailangang idiin para hindi siya sumabog.Talia’s fingers trembled before she pulled her gaze away. “I’m sorry… I forgot.”A sharp exhale escaped him. His jaw flexed. His lips moved closer to her ear, halos dumampi.“Come with me.”Wala siyang pagkakataon na umangal. He tugged her s

CADEN listened quietly, both hands resting at his sides but unconsciously tightening as Mang Rick continued his narration. The forgotten pieces of his past na matagal nang nakabaon, matagal nang hindi binabalikan, were now being pieced together by someone else’s memories. And each fragment felt heavier than the last. Then, in a low, steady voice, he asked, “‘Yong batang ‘yon… ang pangalan ba niya ay Aliyah?”Mang Rick blinked, trying to recall. Then suddenly, his expression lit up with certainty. “O-Oo, Sir Caden! Aliyah ang pangalan niya!”He nodded vigorously. He remembered. “At sinabi mo noon… babalikan mo siya pagkatapos ng Bagong Taon.”Caden’s heart jolted violently in his chest the moment he heard those words. Parang tinamaan ng isang matulis na bagay. He promised. He remembered vaguely, faintly, like a fading dream but he remembered making a promise. To return

"IT'S ALRIGHT. I'm here."Lucas's voice was calm but tight with concern habang mabilis na sinuyod ng tingin ang bawat bahagi ng katawan ni Talia, looking for bruises, signs of injury, anything out of place."Nasaktan ka ba? May gumawa ba nito sa'yo?"Talia shook her head, though her face still carried traces of shock. "I'm fine. Na-lock lang ako. But... Bakit wala pa akong cue?"Lucas sighed, expression complicated."Hinanap kita kanina. But there wasn't enough time. Kaya... ako na ang naglabas ng formula on your behalf."Talia's breath hitched-disappointment flickering across her face despite her effort to remain composed. She swallowed, forcing a faint smile."I see... Then I'll rely on you again, senior."Lucas softened. "Don't worry. The effect is just as strong. I'll arrange another opportunity para makilala mo lahat officially. For now... mas safe kung hindi ka muna lalabas. Chris's people are still watching the area closely."At t

THE MOMENT the spotlight hit the stage, lahat ng mata ay napako sa maliit na pigura na naglalakad palabas.A child. Around nine or ten. She looked young, too young.nAnd kahit composed ang lakad niya, halatang may konting kaba sa paghinga niya. The entire crowd froze. Murmurs erupted like a sudden wave."Bata? Ano 'to, prank?""Seryoso? Siya si Dr. Nova?""Are they kidding the entire pharmaceutical industry?"Even the medical directors sa front row ay hindi nakapagpigil, napatingin sa isa't isa, shocked, confused, borderline insulted.Caden's brows pulled together, jaw flexing. His fingers tapped against the armrest unconsciously, slow at first, then faster. He expected many things.Pero hindi ito. The little girl approached Lucas and leaned toward him, whispering something sa tainga niya. The change was instant. Lucas's confident smile vanished. His brows tightened. THE MOMENT Caden saw her, para bang may automatic switch sa katawan niya. His feet moved before his mind could catch up.“Talia.”His voice wasn’t loud, pero ramdam ang bahagyang pigil na panic, isang magkahalong pag-asa at takot na matagal niyang kinuyom.Lucas paused mid-step. Saglit siyang tumingin kay Caden, then leaned slightly toward Talia, whispering something low and unreadable.“Mauna na ko sa loob,” sabi ni Lucas, calm and controlled. After that, naglakad siya papasok kasama ang ilang delegates. Naiwan sina Caden at Talia sa mahabang hallway, just the two of them, enclosed by cold fluorescent light and thick silence.Talia slowly lifted her gaze. Walang galit sa mga mata niya. Wala ring init. Just distance, sharp, polite, and painfully unfamiliar. It felt like facing a stranger.Caden’s throat tightened. “Talia… I’m sorry.” Mahina, at basag ang boses niya. “That night… hindi ko sinadyang makarating. I was late. And you got hurt. How’s your injury?”Talia’s expression didn’t
