“It would be better if the two of you got a divorce… just for a while.”
The words shot out of Efendi’s mouth—Anna’s adoptive father—like lightning cracking straight across her chest. Anna froze. The world seemed to stall mid-spin. She stared at Efendi, waiting for him to take it back, to laugh, to say it was all some twisted joke. But he didn’t. He was serious. Dead serious. “Dad… don’t joke like that,” Anna whispered, her voice trembling, barely audible. “I’m not joking, Anna. Lusi is pregnant. And you know what that means—she’s a model.” Efendi’s gaze was sharp, immovable. “Rendy has to marry her. It’s the only way to keep our family from being disgraced.” Anna blinked at him, horrified. “She got pregnant by another man—why should my husband be the one to marry her?” Her voice rose in disbelief; none of this made sense. “Lusi’s boyfriend refuses to take responsibility. So please, Anna, listen to us,” Renata murmured softly, almost in a whisper. “We’ve raised you like our own daughter for years. Now we need your help. Think of it as… repayment.” Repayment? The word cut deeper than any blade. Rendy sat beside her, silent. Too silent. Anna turned to her husband—still clinging to the wild hope that he would refuse, defend her, say anything. But his lips stayed sealed. Lusi began to cry softly. “Anna… please. I don’t want my career ruined. I’m begging you…” And finally, Rendy spoke. “For now… we need to separate. Once everything calms down, I promise… I’ll come back to you.” A sharp, painful crack tore through Anna’s chest. Her breath caught. He had actually said it. “Ren, what are you talking about?” Anna’s voice spiked, raw with hurt. “Our marriage is fine! Why are you agreeing to this?!” “Because our marriage is fine, sweetheart,” Rendy said, reaching for her hand. “That’s why we’ll come back together later.” “No!” Anna’s voice broke. “I will never agree to a divorce!” “Don’t be selfish, Anna!” Efendi snapped, as if she were the one destroying the room. Before Anna could answer, Lusi’s body suddenly collapsed. “LUSI!” Renata screamed, frantically grabbing her daughter. Rendy jumped to his feet, his hand slipping from Anna’s like it had never mattered at all. Anna called out softly, “Ren…” but he didn’t look back. Not even once. “Anna, check on her! Quickly!” Rendy barked as he lifted Lusi toward the bedroom. “Anna! Why are you just standing there?!” he shouted—his voice cutting toward her for the first time. And all of it… for another woman. Another woman. A blade twisted through her chest. “Stop acting like a child, Anna! You’re a doctor!” Efendi snapped so harshly that Anna flinched, her body locking up. With unsteady steps, Anna examined Lusi. The room buzzed with panic—but the sharpest, deepest worry came from Rendy. The way he watched Lusi made Anna want to scream. “How is she?” Rendy asked, breathless, desperate. “She’s… just exhausted,” Anna murmured. A moment later, Lusi’s eyes fluttered open—and she burst into hysterical sobs. “I don’t want to live anymore! I want to die!” she cried. Rendy lunged toward her. His arm struck Anna hard, knocking her off balance. Whether it was intentional or not—the pain was real. “Lusi, calm down… we’ll get married. I promise,” Rendy whispered to her, his voice gentler than any tone he had used with Anna in weeks. Anna stared at him, wide-eyed. “Ren?!” “Don’t be selfish, Anna! Lusi’s unstable!” Rendy barked again. “Rendy’s right, Anna. Please understand her condition,” Efendi added without sparing a glance in her direction. Anna held her breath. Her throat burned. “Why… why is it always me who has to understand her? Why won’t any of you try to understand me?” Lusi screamed again. “You’re right! We’re all selfish! Fine, let me die then!” She grabbed a fruit knife from the bedside table. “Lusi! Stop! Stop!” Rendy pulled her into his arms—so tightly, so protectively—as if she were someone he couldn’t bear to lose. Anna stepped back, slowly, her body numb. The tears she’d been holding finally broke free. She watched her husband… holding another woman. Protecting another woman. Fighting for another woman. “You all should leave,” Rendy said without looking at her, still clinging to Lusi. “I’ll calm her down.” “Anna, come on…” Renata tugged gently on her hand. But Anna didn’t move. She couldn’t. Rendy turned his head just enough to shoot her a sharp look. “Don’t be childish, Anna!”It was already late when the car carrying Anna pulled into the mansion's driveway. The night sky was dark, illuminated only by the rows of garden lights lining the path to the front entrance.Anna stepped out of the car, rubbing the back of her neck tiredly. Today had felt more exhausting than usual. The moment she entered the house, Maria was already waiting, as always, to greet her.“Good evening, Ma'am,” Maria said politely.Anna gave a small nod.Without realizing it, her gaze swept across the room as though searching for someone.“Has Liam come home yet?” she asked. Her eyes briefly flicked to the large clock hanging in the main hall.Ten o'clock at night.Normally, Liam would already be home by this hour.“I'm sorry, Ma'am,” Maria replied carefully. “Mr. Liam left for a business trip this afternoon.”Anna's steps came to an abrupt halt. For a moment, she simply stood there.“A business trip?” she repeated quietly.“Yes, Ma'am.”“How long will he be gone?”Maria hesitated.“I'm n
Silence fell over the cafeteria. It was as if everyone had stopped breathing at once. Then—“WOOOOOO!”A deafening cheer erupted throughout the room.Several nurses even jumped to their feet, clapping and whistling excitedly.“He finally confessed!”“Come on, Dr. Anna! Give him a chance!”“Dr. Noah and Dr. Anna are perfect together!”“I agree!”“They'd be the dream doctor couple!”The once-quiet cafeteria transformed into a sea of excitement.Amid all the commotion, Noah remained calm. Yet the faint blush creeping up his ears betrayed how nervous he really was.Meanwhile, Anna simply smiled. Her gaze lingered on Noah before she slowly raised her left hand. The wedding ring on her finger immediately caught everyone's attention.“I'm sorry,” Anna said honestly. “I'm married.”The words hit the room like a bolt of lightning. The cafeteria instantly fell silent again.Eyes widened in disbelief.“What?”“Married?”“Since when?”Even Noah looked stunned. His gaze dropped to the ring that no
“Anna.” The sound of her name made Anna turn around. Her brows immediately furrowed when she saw Rendy walking toward her, a bouquet of roses in hand that stood out conspicuously in the middle of the busy hospital corridor. “Happy birthday, Anna,” Rendy said with a smile that looked painfully forced. Anna glanced at the flowers for a brief second before clicking her tongue in annoyance. “Don't waste my time. I still have plenty of patients to take care of,” she said coldly and turned to leave. Before she could get far, however, Rendy quickly caught her wrist. “Just a minute, Anna.” He opened the black velvet box he had been holding. Inside lay an exquisite necklace with a blood-red gemstone pendant that gleamed beneath the hospital lights. “This is the Crimson Heart you've wanted since last year,” he said confidently. Anna stopped walking. She stared at the necklace for a few moments before a faint smile curved her lips. “As far as I remember, isn't the Crimson Hear
Anna slowly woke as the morning sunlight filtered through the gaps in her bedroom curtains. Her head felt slightly heavy, making her frown as she tried to gather her thoughts. She closed her eyes again, searching her memory for what had happened the night before.Fragments of the evening surfaced one by one.She and Elena had spent hours together, talking endlessly while enjoying a few drinks. After that, everything became a little blurry. The last thing she clearly remembered was Liam coming to pick her up and taking her home. The bedroom door opened quietly."You're awake?"At the sound of Liam's voice, Anna turned her head. He walked in carrying a glass of honey water."Drink this. It should help with the headache," he said, handing it to her.Anna accepted it with both hands and took a few slow sips."I'm sorry," she said after a moment. "We got so caught up talking last night that I didn't realize I'd had too much to drink."She ended the sentence with an embarrassed grin.Liam s
“Happy birthday!” Elena exclaimed the moment the apartment door swung open and Anna stepped inside.Anna stopped short at the entrance. Her eyes swept across the room filled with white and gold balloons, warm fairy lights twinkling softly overhead, and a small table in the center topped with a simple yet beautiful birthday cake. The scent of vanilla and scented candles lingered in the air.For a few seconds, she could only stare.“You... did all this yourself?” she asked in disbelief, turning to Elena.Elena lifted her chin proudly. “Of course. I got home past midnight and started decorating right away. I almost fell off the chair trying to hang those lights, by the way.”A soft laugh escaped Anna’s lips. Warmth bloomed in her chest at the sight of all the effort her best friend had put in for her. “Oh my God, thank you, my forever-single best friend.”Elena immediately flicked her forehead. “You’re impossible. Even on your birthday, you still find time to make fun of my love life.”A
Anna stood frozen, staring at the mountain of gifts she had just received. Even now, she could barely believe what was in front of her. When the bedroom door opened, Liam walked in with a faint smile tugging at his lips. He crossed the room and wrapped his arms gently around her from behind.“Why do you look so confused?” he asked softly near her ear.Anna let out a quiet breath. “I suddenly own this many properties…” she murmured, still dazed.“You deserve every single one of them,” Liam replied without hesitation. That day, Matilda had gifted Anna a luxurious villa along with an exclusive jewelry set she’d purchased at an auction for ten billion rupiah. Jonathan hadn’t held back either—he gave her a five-star hotel standing proudly in the heart of the city. And Liam…The man had given her a breathtakingly expensive jewelry set and the largest shopping mall in the entire city.Anna still had no idea how she was supposed to react to any of it.“How am I even supposed to manage all of
“Anna.”The sound of her name brought Anna’s steps to a halt. She stared straight ahead—at the man standing only a short distance away, a bouquet of flowers clutched in his hand.“I’m sorry I’m late,” Rendy said as he walked toward her.“It’s fine. You don’t need to accompany me anymore,” Anna repl
Anna stood and reached for the plate in Liam’s hand, about to wash it herself, but his hand swiftly caught her wrist.“I’ll do it,” Liam said shortly.Anna stared at him without blinking, a mix of confusion and suspicion in her eyes.“Are you feeling okay?” she asked, following him into the kitchen
“Pick us up later,” Matilda said as she stepped out of the car.Liam didn’t say a word. His jaw tightened before he pulled away, leaving Matilda and Anna standing at the mall’s drop-off area.“Come on, Anna,” Matilda called lightly.Anna blinked, snapping out of her daze. She had been staring at Li
“Miss Anna, it’s time for dinner,” Ferdi said as he knocked politely on her door.“Yes, just a moment,” Anna replied. She hurried to smooth her hair before opening the door.“Sir and Madam are already waiting in the dining room,” Ferdi continued. “Please, allow me to escort you.”Anna nodded and fo
