Chapter 3

Author: wowo
The next day, Enzo showed up in my wing again. Bellamy was right behind him.

Meeting my confused gaze, he lifted his chin and announced flatly, "From now on, Bellamy will be your mentore. She'll teach you how to behave like a proper Don's wife."

I snorted. "How many times do I have to repeat myself, Enzo? The engagement is over. We're done. Get it?"

Before he could react, Bellamy stepped forward with that worried expression.

"Rossella, you're misunderstanding everything. We're doing this for your own good. Don Vitale is just worried you won't know how to handle yourself after marriage. That's why he asked me to tutor you. How can you speak to him like that?"

I stared at her for a second, then laughed coldly. "For my own good? Was that the case when you paid off those previous mentore and made sure they barely taught me anything?"

Bellamy's visage dropped. Her lips quivered as she stuttered, "Rossella, what are you talking about?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about."

I turned to Enzo. "I told you more than once. Those mentore weren't doing their job. You didn't believe me. You made me write apology notes instead. So, what now? You still want to trust her over me?"

Enzo's expression stiffened. He glanced at Bellamy, pale, then back at me. His lips moved slightly, but no words slipped out. In the end, though, he still chose her side.

With a frown, he said, "Stop throwing baseless accusations, Rossella. Bellamy grew up with me, and I know exactly what kind of person she is—better than you ever will."

That was it. Whatever last bit of hope I had been holding onto went out like a dying cigar. I called for the guards and had them escort Enzo and Bellamy out of my wing.

When Papa heard what happened, he personally called Enzo. His tone was firm. "Don Vitale, the engagement is off. My daughter is no longer your fiancee. Please do not send your men to harass her again."

Only then did Enzo quiet things down on his end.

Three days later, Teresa sent me an invitation. That was when I found out Vito was back.

She hosted a welcome-back party for him, inviting all the major players in Cicaro's high society. Naturally, both of my parents took it seriously.

They had a custom dress made for me, using imported silk. It moved like liquid light when I walked, catching every angle and shaping my figure in a way that was impossible to ignore.

Although I hadn't come here to stand out, I still ended up drawing attention from every direction.

It was then that Enzo and Bellamy showed up. For a split second, surprise flickered in his eyes, though displeasure quickly replaced it.

"Rossella, what are you doing here?" he questioned, his gaze dropping over my dress. "And dressed like that?"

Enzo never liked me being the center of attention. Still, this wasn't his territory, and he knew better than to make a scene at someone else's party.

He stepped closer, lowering his voice so only I could hear. "Stay close to me tonight. Don't wander off. Stick with Bellamy."

The ballroom was crowded. I didn't feel like arguing with him here.

I scanned the room for Teresa but didn't see her anywhere, so I ended up taking a seat near Enzo. From then on, people kept coming over to talk to me and make introductions.

Every single time, he shut it down before I even had to speak.

Bellamy lifted a hand to her mouth, speaking with a sweet but jealous edge. "Rossella not only has a hot figure, but that face of hers is something else, too. No wonder she's got half the room losing focus."

The moment Enzo heard that, his expression shifted. He shot me a sharp look. "I had someone bring a change of clothes for you. Go and switch into them."

I rolled my eyes at him. "Stay out of my business."

He looked ready to snap back, but a business contact came over at just the right moment, pulling him into conversation. I took the chance and slipped away.

However, I didn't get far. Somehow, Enzo caught up and grabbed my arm again, turning me toward the exit. "I've got someone waiting outside. You're leaving through here."

I was invited here by Teresa. Leaving before even greeting her was a disrespect I didn't care to commit.

After a few dragged steps, my patience ran out. "I've got things to handle, Enzo. Let go of me."

He shot me a look, clearly annoyed. "What business could you possibly have? You think I don't know why you're here? You came for me. Look, I'm right here. What else do you have to do? Strut around for other men?"

I wished I knew where he got that confidence from.

My face went cold as I stepped back from him. "So what if I did? Who do you think you are to control me?"

Enzo's gaze darkened. "Because I'm your fiance."

The words had barely landed when a lazy, amused voice came from behind. "Is that so? Don Vitale, haven't you heard?"

A faint laugh followed. "Her fiance's already been replaced."

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of breakfast from the kitchen. I went downstairs in my pajamas and saw Vito at the stove, wearing an apron, frying bacon.Sunlight spilled through the window and settled over him like a golden blanket. His left hand was still wrapped in bandages. His movements were rather clumsy, but they couldn't mask his intense focus."You're up."Vito turned and looked at me, smiling. "Go wash up. Breakfast's almost ready."I walked over and looked at the pan of sizzling bacon, toast already done on the side, eggs plated up. A warmth brewed in my chest."Your hand," I said, pointing at the bandage."It's fine. Just a small cut," he said, waving it off. "The doctor said as long as I don't get it wet, it'll heal soon."I didn't reply, but took the spatula from him. "Let me do it."Vito paused for a second, then smiled. "Sure."He stood next to me, watching as I finished plating the bacon and poured the milk into glasses. Out of the blue, he popped a q

  • Too Sexy for the Don   Chapter 11

The day Vito came back, Cicaro had its first rain of the season.I stood at the entrance with an umbrella, watching a black sedan cut through the rain curtain. My heart was pounding. The car stopped. The door opened, and out came Vito. He wore a black overcoat, collar turned up, making his face look paler than usual.I saw his left hand dressed in bandages, which wrapped all the way down to his wrist."Why are you standing out here in the rain?"Vito sprinted over, took the umbrella from my hand, and held it over me."I was waiting for you."He leveled his eyes at me. Raindrops slid off the umbrella ribs and dripped onto his shoulder. I wouldn't deny that he looked thinner, with new shadows under his eyes, and a faint stubble on his jaw.Still, his eyes were bright. When he looked at me, they were as warm as ever."I'm back," he said.I nodded, my nose suddenly stinging. "Come in. You'll get soaked."I turned and walked inside. Vito followed behind me, the umbrella still hel

Although Vito had promised to be back soon, he still hadn't returned after a week.On the tenth day, Teresa called me. Her tone was heavier than usual. "Rossella, something came up on Vito's end. He might be delayed a few more days.""What's happening?" I asked. She paused for a few seconds. "There's trouble on the West Coast. Someone started a mess. Vito got a bit hurt. He turned his phone off in case he was being tracked, so he hasn't been reachable these past few days."My heart sank. "How bad is he hurt?""Nothing serious. Just surface wounds. He'll be fine in a few days," she said, her tone somewhat reassuring. "He wanted me to tell you not to worry and that he'll be back in no time."I hung up and paced the room several times. In the end, I couldn't hold back and called Vito again. No answer.I called again and again. Nothing.I lost count of how many times I tried, but eventually, the line connected."Rossella?"Vito's voice came through rough and tired. I got straigh

  • Too Sexy for the Don   Chapter 9

The day after Vito left for the West Coast, Enzo came again. This time, he didn't bring flowers or chocolates. He brought a file. Placing it before me, he said, "Take a look, Rossella."When I glanced down, I realized it was a contract. If I signed it, the port business would be handed over to me. I looked up at Enzo. "What's this supposed to mean?""Exactly what you think it means."He sat down across from me. "Look, I know you hate me, but you can't gamble your whole life like this. The Scalera family isn't as simple as you think. And Vito? He's not someone you can control.""I don't need to control anyone," I countered."You're being naive."Enzo's tone sharpened with a hint of desperation. "You really think he's serious with you? Think about it, Rossella. He barely knows you. Why would he marry you?""Because his Madre likes me.""Sure, his Madre likes you. But what about him?" he probed, staring into my eyes. "Are you sure he actually wants to marry you, and not just beca

A week went by.Just as Enzo said, he kept showing up almost every day. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes at dusk. Occasionally, he brought flowers or a box of chocolates—all things I used to like.Back then, his tenderness and care were a luxury I couldn't beg for, even if I tried. Now, he was dumping it all in my lap at once. I didn't feel happy. Instead, the irony was suffocating.Vito, on the other hand, stayed cool about it. Every time he ran into Enzo, he didn't get worked up. He would greet him like a gentleman, then casually take me away.Naturally, Enzo's mood worsened by the day.Bellamy came around a few times too, using apologizing as an excuse, trying to get close to me again. I couldn't be bothered. Every time, I had the maid send her packing. Two weeks later, Teresa heard about the drama and came to see me in person. She took my hand, her tone warm. "Rossella, has Vito been nice to you? If he gives you a hard time, tell me. I'll straighten him out."I laughed,

  • Too Sexy for the Don   Chapter 7

The next morning, Enzo came to my new place.I was still having breakfast. When the maid came in to report him, I almost threw the fork in my hand. "Tell him I'm not here."She looked hesitant. "But Signora… Don Vitale is already inside…"Before she even finished, Enzo was standing in the dining room doorway. He wore a dark gray suit today. His hair was neatly combed, looking as proper as always. However, the dark circles under his eyes gave him away, as he clearly hadn't slept well."Rossella," he called out, standing there. "We need to talk.""There's nothing to talk about."I set down my fork and wiped my mouth with a napkin. "I've already said everything I needed to say, Enzo."He took a slow breath, as though holding himself back. "I know you hate me—how strict I was with you, how I always compare you to Bellamy. But Rossella, I did all of that for you.""For me?"I couldn't help laughing out loud. "You know what I can't stand most about you? It's that damn 'I'm doing th
