Aria's POV
My dream was terrifying. An abnormally huge wolf chased after me. I transformed, but even my Alpha wolf couldn't run faster than the beast. Despite my best efforts to survive, it got closer, and finally, I felt its sharp teeth sink into my flesh. I screamed, but no one came. I lay on my back, staring into its red eyes as it leaned down to take a bite out of my belly.
I opened my eyes, hoping the nightmare was over, but I was wrong. The pain was real. I was sweating and could hardly breathe. It took me a few moments to realise what was happening.
“Not again,” I cried, unsure whether the physical pain or the heartache hurt me more. I pulled myself up to see that the sheet beneath me was soaked in blood, which only made me sob harder. Another pregnancy ended—another baby lost. “Why? Moon Goddess, why?” I screamed as I lay back down.
“Luna?” I heard my personal Omega servant, Hilda, enter the room. She turned on the light and gasped when she saw me sobbing in pain and lying in my own blood. She grabbed her phone and called for an ambulance before rushing to my side.
“Luna, please try to calm down. Help is on the way,” she said. Even though she tried to comfort me, I felt that nothing could ease my pain.
The ambulance arrived shortly, and after they connected tubes to my veins, they took me from the Alpha residence.
“It’s okay, Luna. We’ve given you some painkillers. The pain should ease now,” the doctor said, but that didn’t calm me down. I didn't care about the pain—I cared about my baby.
Once we arrived at the hospital, they took me to a private room that I was all too familiar with. This was the third time I had been here for the same reason. Nurses hurried into the room as the biggest torment began. About an hour passed before the doctor sighed.
“Just take a rest, Luna,” he said.
“Thank you, doctor,” I replied. He nodded and left me alone. I held my phone in my hand. It was two o'clock in the morning. Andrew was on a business trip, and I didn't want to wake him this time. He made me promise to call him if something happened, but I didn’t want to disappoint him again.
I didn't want him to know that I would be unable to give him an heir again. I cried quietly, and finally, I was able to get some sleep. The next morning, I woke up at nine o'clock. When I checked my phone, I found a "Good morning" message from Andrew asking how I was doing.
I stared at the screen for a while, torn between ruining his mood as soon as he came back and telling him the bad news right away so he could calm down during his journey home.
"Our baby is gone. I am sorry," I wrote, and I sent the message. I waited in vain for a response, which made me cry again. I understood he might not be using his phone during an important meeting, but he had assured me he would have it with him at all times so I could reach him.
Perhaps he was tired of this battle.
Andrew Lennox was the Alpha of North Hiltonwood, a territory that many coveted. The Lennox family had led it for hundreds of years, and the council took their bloodline seriously. His father was a member of the council, and even though we had only been married for three years, he frequently asked when we would ensure the continuation of the bloodline. We had told him about my first pregnancy, but we kept the others hidden. In their history, only one Luna had been unable to bear a successor; when they discovered her infertility, they forced her to divorce the Alpha and banned her from the pack, making the Alpha choose another Luna who could provide him with an heir. This hadn’t happened long ago, and knowing Andrew's parents, I was certain they would do the same to me.
My family was wealthy and influential as well. My father was the Alpha of Finwalley, and my brother helped lead the territory and manage family businesses.
I had met Andrew at my first ball, which was organised every year. It was supposedly to welcome spring, but everyone knew its real intention was to bring unmated Alphas and Betas together to find partners.
I fell for Andrew at first glance. His handsome face and strong physique captivated me. I felt myself melting when I looked into his brown eyes. His neatly styled dark hair and well-kept appearance suggested how strict he was, but as I got to know him better, I realised that behind this facade, he was calm and gentle, with deep emotions.
Our parents recognised our relationship with excitement and immediately agreed to our marriage. We could have been completely happy together if not for my miscarriages, which worried me a lot; I feared they might ultimately ruin our relationship.
I was checking my phone every minute to see if he had replied, but I received no response. It hurt. I didn’t know when he would decide he had had enough and choose someone else instead.
After the doctor gave me the paperwork, he said I could go home, but I needed to rest. He mentioned that they had conducted some tests and that he would call me when the results came in. I thanked him, got dressed, but found it difficult to look at myself in the mirror. My reflection was perfect, as always. With my long blond hair and ideal body shape, other she-wolves often looked at me with envy. Yet my green eyes revealed that, despite my outward appearance, I was not well at all.
As soon as I got into the taxi, I checked my phone again and found it strange that he still hadn’t answered. So, I decided to text his Beta, Seraphina, whom I also considered a friend.
"Is everything okay?"
She replied shortly:
"Of course, Luna. The Alpha will return this evening."
My wolf ran without stopping. He ran fast, as if pushing through the pain might somehow ease his racing heart. The dense fur covering his body grew wet in the rain, and I could tell he must be cold, but he still didn’t slow down. It felt like he was trying to escape everything—the hurt, the betrayal, everything that had shattered our world. Our Luna, the one we had trusted and loved, had betrayed us in the most humiliating way possible. I wasn’t sure if we could ever stand tall again after this. He kept running for what felt like hours, with the trees whizzing past and the faint sound of the wilderness echoing around us until we finally reached the spot where we had left our clothes earlier. The sky was beginning to darken, casting long shadows across the ground, and my wolf instinctively took the lead once more. As soon as I shifted back into my physical body, the pain hit me like a freight train. My chest tightened, and each breath felt shallow and strained. Yet, despite everythin
The pictures lay before me like daggers, each one a reminder of what I had lost. Aria and Dr Parker looked so at ease, their laughter echoing in my mind as I imagined them sharing intimate moments that should have been ours. In one photo, they sat across from each other in that cosy little restaurant, their eyes sparkling with a love I thought was meant for me. Dr Parker held her hand, and her smile was radiant, filled with a warmth that made my heart ache.Another shot captured them at the hospital entrance, where he held her close as if she were the most precious thing in the world. She leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulder as he guided her to her car. I remember that day well; it was when she chose not to answer my calls. “I collapsed in the examination room,” she had said, but all I could think of was how she had lost herself in someone else’s arms.“What a cruel joke,” I whispered to myself, feeling the heaviness in my chest tighten like a vice. I could hardly catch m
She sighed deeply, a sound that seemed to carry the weight of the world. "I don't know much about it. The only thing that I know for sure is that this disease prevents me from carrying a baby to term. Dr Parker said the treatment could help," she said softly. I leaned forward, needing to understand more. "So, that means it isn't even a hundred per cent that you could heal?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly as I realised how that question affected her. I reached out and held her hand tightly on the table, trying to comfort her."Aria, I love you. Even if we can't have our biological child, I am not willing to let you go," I said, feeling the sincerity behind my words. Tears welled in her eyes, reflecting her fears and frustrations."Dr Parker said the treatment could help, but as you said, it isn't a hundred per cent that it would heal me," she replied, and I could hear the mix of hope and despair in her voice. My wolf stirred in my mind, distressed at the thought of us possibly b
"Andrew, darling, what are you talking about?" she asked, her tone casual, as if she had no clue what I meant. But I wasn’t going to let this slide; not this time. Aria was struggling, and the treatment she was going through was nothing short of torture. She was fighting to bring our baby into the world. There was no way I was going to let her see the drama unfolding behind her back; I didn’t want to add to her pain."Mother, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re the one encouraging Seraphina to play the role of the Luna. You’re not just supporting her quietly from the shadows; you’re out there, showing off with her in public!" I said, frustration bubbling up inside me."Son, the children's hospital is an important place. I have a ton of respect for the doctors, nurses, and everyone working there. So you don’t need to wonder about my visits; I went with Seraphina because it matters," she replied, her voice steady. But I just shook my head, refusing to accept her excuse."I d
It took her a while to wake up, but when she finally did, she looked much better despite her red, puffy, and teary eyes. She appeared relieved.Hilda's mood improved as well, and when we finally sat down at the dining table, we ate as we had before. When evening came and we lay in bed, she cuddled up to me, and I held her close, wanting to protect her from everything bad."Do you still want me to go to another doctor?" she finally asked. I sighed. Even though I knew the truth now, my jealousy hadn’t diminished, but my wolf held me back. Dr Parker seemed clear about her illness and genuinely wanted to help her. I agreed with him when he suggested that involving other doctors might not be a good idea. Although I didn't tell her, she was worried about sharing it with my mother.I still couldn't shake the thought that my mother seemed to side with Seraphina, confusing the pack. She praised Seraphina, and I sadly recalled the time she invited her to their home to celebrate her first visit
She didn’t pull away, and I felt my wolf stir with a comforting instinct. He wanted nothing more than to be close to his mate, and despite the whirlwind of mixed emotions rushing through me, I realised how much I needed her near. With that thought in mind, I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around her in a tight embrace. She hesitated for a moment, and I felt my heart race, unsure how she would react. Then, slowly, I felt her hand move up my back, and her arms encircled me as she melted into the hug. It was a small but significant gesture that brought a wave of relief. As she rested her head gently on my shoulder, I inhaled deeply, drawn in by her warm, familiar scent. It was intoxicating; the kind that washed away my worries and soothed the turmoil inside me. In that moment, everything else faded away. “I am sorry,” I whispered, breaking the silence between us. My voice was soft, filled with regret for the pain that lingered in the air. I didn’t expect her to respond right away,
