The engagement dinner was to be jovial.

Patricia kept saying this.

The tables were arranged in a nice way. Candles were glowing softly. Plates were lined up perfectly. It all was so pleasant and cozy, yet the air was thick, as though no one was willing to breathe.

Ava was seated beside Mark, with her hands clasped together on her lap. She smiled honeyedly, without it reaching her eyes.

"Sit up straight," she hissed to her as she flew behind her. "People are watching."
