CHAPTER 5

Mara’s pov

“Mara mara,Mara can you hear me”

I heard Daniel voice faintly as i finally can back to reality 

“Yes yes i can hear you”

“what happened you just stalled all of a sudden,who was on the other end”his face flushed i could tell Daniel was immensely worried.

“It's was Vivienne,i stammered she says she wants meet up tomorrow alone ”

“Why for what reason?”

“She knows Daniel she knows” my voice was almost fading out,”she went ahead to mention how she knows something i don't know about my marriage and why Ethan married me”.

“Did this motherfuckers play me for a fool

Was i not enough all of my sacrifice for three years was tied to something 

Please tell me am dreaming and this is a joke Daniel”

My emotions were all over the place,my mood shifted from being scared to being angry then finally sad.

“Three years,three years of carefully curating this plan and this little bitch thinks she can take it all from me 

She has already taken my home,my husband what more does she want?”

I was agitated i slammed my hands against the dashboard 

“Calm down mara”

“No no you tell that bitch to get the fuck out of my business,Fuckkkkkkkkk”

“Hey hey you need to calm down mara, Daniel said,he face still fixed on the road 

“Look you will meet her tomorrow,I'll go drop you off and i'll be in the car incase any thing goes wrong 

He said as we approached my crib.

The car finally came to a halt,he looked at me with consideration you could see the worry in his eyes,the gentleness in his gaze i could tell he just wanted to hold me,kiss me on my forehead and tell me that everything will be ok and at this moment i started to wish the man i marry was the one filling this emotional gaps for me but at the end of the day we love who we right?

“Should i help you upstairs?” his gaze caught mine.

At this point i just want to sleep and wake up to everything gone.

I heard the car door open Daniel was coming towards me 

“Let me help you up” he said as he lifted me into his arms carefully taking me up the stairs.

Morning came i heard a soft chime on my phone it was a message from the same unknown number that called last night 

Quiet direct,Formal,sounded more like a threat.

“Meet me at Gina’s diner,56 Delaware Street off Taylor's post office be there at 2:00pm and remember come alone!!”.

I immediately glanced up to see what time it was,the sun was slowly radiating into the room through the curtains,car honks, chartering and people living their lives 

I sat at the window staring into the streets 

My phone buzzed on the dresser,it was Daniel 

“Good morning mara”

“Morning daniel”

“Hope you slept well”

“Yes yes i did,she dropped a location this morning i’ll forward the address to your inbox right now”

“Alright seen i’m on it”

“See you by 2 then”

“Two it is”i said as the call came to an end 

The sun was scorching and i knew noon had come.

I quickly got dressed,picked up my keys and my bag and made way to the stairs.

i dialed Daniels number he but they were no response which was weird he always picked at the second ring.

I got out of the apartment to see Daniel standing right Infront of it.

That immediately answered my questions.

“Your 30minutes late you know”

“Thats the point of it she should do the waiting”

Soft chimes came from my phone they were old notifications.

“Fuck she messaged me”

“Come on get in the car”

Daniel packed the vehicle some blocks away from the restaurant 

She was seated already when i arrived buried in her phone 

“You must be Vivienne” I said briefly stretching my hands towards her for a handshake as expected she ignored it.

“I'm going to make the brief”she said immediately 

“You're not going to offer me a drink?”I chirped in almost immediately.

From the look on her facial expressions and her body movement you could tell she hatedy gut but i didn't care cause she was the villain here not me.

Me? I was damn cool,i let out a little smirk put my birkin on the table and sat comfortably.

She looked surprised,”Is that a birkin”she asked with a slice of jealousy.

“Yes girl my husband got it for me on our third anniversary oh did i say husband i mean my soon to be ex”.She was triggered i could tell from her facial expressions.

I acted with precision and i knew i was definitely getting a hank of this.

She was about to speak when i gave her a pause sign with my hands and signalled the waiter to come over.

“I'll like to order a cocktail please it’s quite hot today don't you think?”

“Yes absolutely ma’am”

“Can i get your menu please?”I signalled as the waiter stretched the placard towards me

“Go ahead ask her what she'd like to order i’ll sort the bill”i teased

“I'm fine”she tried to feed her ego

It was almost like she was continuously practicing and waiting for the opportunity to finally say it.

I let out a smile 

“It's ok I'll get a mojito please”

“Ok ma'am”The waiter said as he made his way to the counter to get my order ready.

“You don't have to keep up with the act i could tell your hurt”

My mojito came almost immediately 

“Perfect timing”i whispered

“Thank you”

“You're welcome ma'am”

I took a sip before i let out a word 

“Why I'm i here Vivienne?”

“I have just two requests to make from you,i really want to be with Ethan and you know that child could ruin things for me”

“So this is about my baby”i said as i sucked my drink.

“I don't want to have to play games with you mara all i need is your compliance he already offered you a fortune sign the damn papers and be out of our lives or we do it the hard way”

“Uhh and how's that?”

“I know more than you think i know mara and that what you should be scared of i hired Sophie,I took those photos and I'm way aware of just more than the baby,so I'm going to make this simple i don't care how you want to do it but i want you out of town by Monday if not your forcing me to do things me own way”

She immediately picked up her bag and stood up to leave.

“What do you know i can't be threatened by what i don't know”i held her hand to the table because i was for sure not done with the conversation 

“I know the secret you think i know so feed your suspicions”

She dragged her hands out of mine and stormed out immediately.

I followed suit 

“Drive”i was furious and i knew sooner or later i was definitely going to find my self in a panic attack.

“Breath mara breath”Daniel knew things didn't go well at all but he couldn't be in an awkward mood as i was someone had to be strong for the other.

Reality had finally dawned on me as Daniel drove me back to the apartment 

I was an option all along,a game but that was going to end soon.
