~ Aria's POV ~

I couldn't make it back to Velmora because it had rained all through the night, and even if it wasn't raining, my mom wouldn't have allowed me to return, because it was so damn late.

I couldn't sleep all through the night. I soaked myself in tears, almost blaming myself for what had happened to Nyx. Callista had told me that Nyx was killed by a werewolf, according to Karl.

If I hadn’t left Nyx alone… if I had returned to her as I promised, maybe I could have saved her. If I could face Magus and Alistair, ancient beings a thousand years old, surely handling a common werewolf wouldn’t have been impossible.

I called Thorne. I called him repeatedly, but his number went straight to voicemail. I wanted to check on him, to tell him I’d be back in Velmora by morning, but I couldn’t reach him.

As I cried all through the night, my mom tried to console me, but it wasn't enough to stop me from crying. Nyx was like a baby sister to me. I love her like every big sister would love her
