CHAPTER 2: Sexy Stranger

Nora POV

I took a moment to calm myself down despite the surge of adrenaline rushing through me. I was disgusted at the mere sight of looking at them alone but a small smirk formed at the corner of my lips.

"Okay but do you mean the one beside my bed, Josephine?"

"Hmm, the one by the right stand."

I paused. That meant I needed to make a turn to the right. A thought appeared to me and I dropped to my knees, crawling my way through the bed stand.

From a reflection, I saw that the two had gone back to their irritable affection. I reached the bed stand and held the wood for support before turning, holding it still.

I opened the large cabinet and seeing that they were still engaged, I intentionally let the contents fall to the ground causing them to panic.

"What are you doing Nora?" The nurse screamed out.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to." I fell to my knees, picking up the bottles on the floor.

"Just bring the medicine," Landon spoke out, not wanting the plan to fail. "The one in a silver covering."

Nice try, Landon. I had seen the 'medicine' and noticed that it was condoms and not the cold medicine he wanted.

Tears streamed down my eyes but I picked up the box containing various medicines and stretched out the box to them. "Here, I don't know which is the right one."

Landon took the box from me and tried to search my expression but it was blank. My face was gentle, my lips pressed together into a thin line.

"Thanks." He murmured but dropped the box back on the floor with a loud bang before walking out of the room, his nurse following behind him closely.

I released the breath I didn't know I was holding when they left. I had been so close to getting caught. My eyes dropped to the label of a bottle of medication on the floor.

A gasp escaped through me, my hand moving to my mouth. I could recognize the label vividly. It was an illegal product, and the last time I checked, the government placed a ban on it.

But what was it doing here? I picked it up and saw Landon's father's hospital logo on it. Did they produce drugs? And an illegal one at that... I knew I was doomed so far I was here.

Landon walked down the hospital hallway with Josephine beside him. They had barely walked some distance when Landon stopped abruptly. He turned in the direction where the room was and back to Josephine. "You don't think she has recovered her sight, do you?"

Josephine shrugged, "I also suspect her but it's not possible. She didn't show any signs of improving these past months so there was no reason to."

"When was the last time you conducted a test on her?"

"Ehm…"

Landon raised his brows at her, "Don't tell me you haven't done it in a while." He raised his voice in anger.

"It's not like that," she moved closer to him and placed her hand on his chest, "I've just been preoccupied, you get..." She winked at him.

Landon sighed, understanding what she meant. He looked at the woman in front and realized why he loved her. From her pretty face to how she understood and gave him what he wanted, unlike Nora. He couldn't even see what his father saw in her.

If not for that accident, things would never have resulted in him being forced to marry her.

"Alright, alright," he knew he couldn't win against her. "But go and conduct a test as soon as possible."

She nodded.

I was not having it easy where I lay. My feet shook in fear and my heart thumped faster when I put the pieces of my accident together. My entire knowledge about Landon's family was shattered by one label on the bottle.

But I was more frightened for my mum than myself. My fingers moved to my teeth and I chewed on them continuously.

Landon's family was powerful, no doubt about it. They owned the hospital. And not only me, but also my mother was admitted here. Following the accident, my mother had a breakdown and Landon's father had willingly offered to help.

But if what I imagined was real, then we had to leave... Immediately! But how? A single move could put us in danger.

The voices at the door entrance made me recoil back on the bed in fear. I shut my eyes quickly though it was useless. The room was already dark and I could only rely on my hearing sense.

"What do you think about her?" I heard Josephine speak up first.

"If she can see now? I can't say, she looks asleep so we can't conduct the test but there seems to be an improvement."

I felt a hand open my eyes wide, conducting some examination on them.

"Oh, should we come back at night then?"

"Yes, we should."

Their footsteps retreated from the room and only until I heard the door shut did I open my eyes.

They were going to conduct a test on me? Were they that suspicious of me? The test had not been conducted in a few weeks now and since they wanted to, I needed to speed up with my plans.

The sound of an alarm jolted me from my sleep. The room was dim black and it seemed it was the whole hospital. I sat upright wondering what was happening.

Landon and his mistress weren't in the room either. Was something going on?

All patients should stay in their rooms, electricity will be sorted out soon. Please stay in your room! The announcement blared.

This was my chance, I knew it! I gently rose from my bed and with all the support and training I had, I walked out slowly from the room. The hallway was better than my room, a little light radiating from it.

Room 24. I recalled my mother's room number. I had six rooms to go. Gently staggering my way down and squinting to cross-check the numbers, I finally found it.

"Mum! Mum!!" I called out in a hushed voice, stirring the woman awake. "We need to leave."

"Who are you?" The old woman stared at me in confusion.

"Your daughter, Nora." I dragged my mum out of the bed and put her sweater on. We walked out of the room slowly but as I got out, my hands brushed against a man's body by the door.

"Who are you?" His deep voice echoed in the hallway.

TYLER'S POVI stood in the hallway outside Nora's room, my fist clenched at my side. The black rose and the note. Someone had been in her room without my knowledge. That could not happen. Not in my house. Not under my watch.I turned and walked down the stairs, my footsteps heavy on the marble. The elders would be waiting in the meeting room. They always waited when something unexpected happened. And bringing Nora home had been very unexpected.I pushed open the doors to the private meeting room. Five faces turned toward me. The gang elders. Men and women who had served my family for decades.Adrian sat at the head of the table, his fingers steepled under his chin. He was the oldest and the most cunning. Nothing escaped his notice."Tyler." He nodded at me. "We need to talk."I closed the doors behind me and took my seat. "About what?""About the woman you brought home." Clara leaned forward, her sharp eyes studying my face. "You called her your wife.""That is correct.""Since when d

NORA'S POVI stared at the wedding dress, my hands still clutching the note. Wear this tomorrow. The words blurred as tears filled my eyes.I reached out and touched the fabric again, this time noticing the details. The lace was old. Not old in a worn way, but vintage. Delicate and yellowed slightly at the edges. This was not a new dress. This was Isabella's dress. The dress she would have worn to marry Tyler. The dress that never made it to a wedding. And now he wanted me to wear it.My stomach turned. I stepped back from the closet, my breath coming in short bursts. I could not do this. I could not pretend to be her.But what choice did I have? The contract bound me to Tyler. I was his possession now. If he wanted me to wear a dead woman's wedding dress, I had no power to refuse.I forced myself to look around the room again. Really look this time. The vanity caught my attention. I walked over to it and sat down on the velvet stool. The mirror reflected my pale face at me, making me

NORA'S POVI could not let her walk away. Not after what she had just said. I hurried out of the room, my feet moving before my mind could catch up."Wait!" I called out, my voice echoing down the empty hallway.Lily stopped but did not turn around. Her shoulders tensed like she was bracing herself for something painful.I caught up to her, slightly out of breath. "Please. You cannot just say something like that and leave."She glanced over her shoulder, her eyes darting left and right. "I should not have said anything.""But you did." I stepped closer, lowering my voice. "Who are you talking about? Who do I look like?"Lily's face crumpled with worry. She looked like she wanted to run, but something kept her rooted in place. "Not here," she whispered. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me down the corridor. We turned a corner and she pushed open a door I had not noticed before. The room inside was small and dark, filled with cleaning supplies and old furniture.Lily shut the door behind

NORA'S POVMy fingers trembled as I reached for the drawer again. I knew I should not be looking through Tyler's things, but I could not stop myself. The woman in the photograph haunted me.I pulled the drawer open fully this time. More photographs spilled into view, each one showing the same beautiful woman. She had dark hair that fell in waves past her shoulders. Her smile was warm and genuine. But it was her eyes that made my stomach drop. They were the exact shape as mine. The same curve to her cheekbones. The same delicate arch to her eyebrows. We could have been twins.I picked up another photograph. This one showed her in a flowing white dress, standing in a garden filled with roses. Sunlight caught in her hair, making it shine like silk. She looked happy. Carefree. Everything I would never be.The next photograph made my breath cease. The woman stood beside Tyler, but he looked different. Younger. His face was softer, without the hard edges I had come to know. His arm wrapped

NORA'S POVTyler's hand wrapped around my wrist as he pulled me away from the crowd of elders. Their stares burned into my back, but I had no strength left to care what they thought of me.He led me through a marble hallway that seemed to stretch forever. My feet ached with each step, but I forced myself to keep up with his long strides. The walls were lined with expensive art that I could barely make out in my unreliable vision. We stopped at a heavy wooden door. Tyler pushed it open and gestured for me to enter. I hesitated, before stepping into what appeared to be his private study. The room smelled of leather and cedar. Dark bookshelves lined the walls, filled with volumes I would never have time to read. A massive desk was in the center, polished to a mirror shine.Tyler walked to the desk and dropped a folder he had been holding. The same contract Landon had signed. My stomach twisted into knots as he laid it flat on the surface between us."Sit," he commanded, his voice leaving

Who I believed had a hand in the underworld—I was a hundred percent sure. That did not amaze me, after all, I just discovered the hidden identity and operations of Darius, Landon's father.Tyler's men dragged me out of the room, doing the same with my mother.
