Edward's POV

Harold scraped the last grain of rice out of the lunch box with his spoon. Then he licked the spoon. Then he stared at the empty box like it had betrayed him.

"No wonder you were hiding it from me." He looked up with sad eyes. "Edward, I really want more."

I snatched the box back and snapped the lid shut.

"No more." I pointed the box at his face. "Don't even think about it."

Then he stared at the empty box like it had betrayed him."No wonder you were hiding it from me." He looked up with sad eyes. "Edward, I really want more."I snatched the box back and snapped the lid shut."No more." I pointed the box at his face. "Don't even think about it."Silas's POVThe war room was cold and dim, lit only by the glowing star map spread across the long table. A small red planet turned slowly in the middle of it.General Whitaker stood at the head of the table with his hands behind his back."Commander Montgomery. Commander Hale." He nodded at me, then at Garrick across the table. "With you two leading the team, taking Planet Veyra should be no problem."Garrick sat back in his chair, arms folded. His knuckles were wrapped in fresh white bandages."All right," the general said. "Go prepare. Departure in three days. Dismissed."Chairs scraped back. Offic

Rosalind's POVI pulled my hands away from Garrick's back. The red heat in his mind had cooled to a low simmer. His shoulders slowly dropped. His breathing went from harsh and broken to deep and steady. He turned around.Up close, he was even bigger than I thought. A sharp jaw. A scar through one eyebrow. Amber eyes that still held a faint gold glow, like a big cat in the dark."Hey." His voice was rough. "Thank you."He looked down at me, then at his own bloody knuckles, like he was only now waking up."Mental soothing," he said quietly. "You did a mental soothing on me."Garrick's POVShe shouldn't have done that.I was a stranger to her. A man in a rage, smashing steel with his bare fists. Any normal woman would have run. Instead, she walked right up to me and put her hands on my back. And now my whole body felt calm. Light. Like I'd slept for a week.Something deep inside me stirred. Old, heavy, and wild. My beast.I want her to mark me.The thought rose up from my bones. I want t

Rosalind's POVFor one second, the whole hall stayed silent. Then someone near the window laughed out loud."Useless coward! What a perfect word!""Exactly!" another soldier called. "If I had a fiancée this beautiful who talked this bold, I'd treat her like a queen every single day.""Trevor must have water in his brain."Laughter rolled across the room. Trevor's face went from red to purple.Trevor's POVDamn it.How did this woman suddenly get such a sharp tongue?I clenched my fists and forced myself to breathe. Stay calm. She used to love me to death. She cried for me. She begged for me. A girl like that doesn't just change in two days. She must be playing hard to get.As long as I sweet-talked her a little, she'd come running back. She always did.I fixed my face into a soft smile and reached for her arm."Rosalind, stop fooling around. Come with me." I lowered my voice. "Let's talk privately."Rosalind's POVI stepped back before his fingers could touch me."Trevor, the severanc

Silas's POVI carried Rosalind down the long corridor toward my private rest room. She was light in my arms, her head tucked against my chest, still fast asleep. Two soldiers turned the corner and stopped dead."Am I seeing things right now?" one whispered. "The commander who never touches women is carrying a girl?""The iceberg finally melted," the other breathed."Who do you think she is?""No idea. But she's gorgeous."I looked at them. Just looked. They saluted so fast they nearly hit each other, then scattered down the hall.Inside the rest room, I laid her gently on the narrow bed and pulled a blanket over her. She murmured something and curled onto her side.I stepped back and checked my wrist again.[Berserk value: 59%.]Twenty points. Gone in less than an hour.No healer in Crown City could do that. Not even the best of them. If the military found out what she could do, if the Bloodline Registry found out, if the other great families found out...I shut the thought down.Stop

Rosalind's POVSilas's office sat on the top floor of the Third Legion base. It was all grey walls, black desks, and tall windows looking out over a training yard where soldiers ran laps in the heat.I sat on the leather sofa with my legs crossed and watched him work.Files floated in the air above his desk. He signed one, swiped it away, and opened another. Then another. He hadn't looked up in twenty minutes."Silas, you seem busy." I leaned my chin on my hand. "Mom said there would be people protecting me, but I don't see anyone."He finally glanced up. "I have to earn money to support you." He signed another file without looking at it. "As long as I'm by your side, you don't need anyone else's protection."He paused. Then, quieter, "That way, you won't easily run off with someone else, right?"I raised an eyebrow. "We're just siblings." I grinned at him. "So greedy."He went back to his files. But his pen had stopped moving.Whoa. He was flirting with me, wasn't he?I hid my smile

  • Transmigrated to Tame the Beasts   Chapter 08

Rosalind's POVI stood in front of the tall mirror and turned slowly to one side.Yesterday's beauty pill and body sculpting pill from the lucky draw had worked through the night. My skin glowed like warm pearl. My waist was smaller, my legs longer, and the tired shadows under my eyes were gone. Even my hair fell in soft, shiny waves down my back. The effect was incredible.I smiled at my reflection. Anyone who looked down on me, just you wait.I pulled on a simple white dress and headed downstairs.Pearl rolled out of the kitchen, eyes flashing a cheerful blue. "Good morning, Miss Rosalind.""Morning, Pearl."A big screen on the hallway wall was playing an advert. A silver watch spun slowly in the dark while a deep voice said, "Precision is the only luxury that matters."I rolled my eyes and turned the corner into the living room. Then I stopped dead.Silas stood by the open glass doors to the garden, a towel around his neck. He had just finished training. His shirt was off, and the
