ADELINA'S POV

Lawrence was a high-ranking management staff member, meaning he held a place of importance, so our table was not too far away. We were seated in the second row.

The atmosphere around the table felt awkward. I reached out for a glass of water to sip. Sylvie didn't like me and I did not need a genius to know. An elderly couple also approached the table after the Ashford couple was seated.

"Excuse us, we will be joining you for the night." An elderly woman chimed. She was holding a man I assumed to be her husband.

"Please have a seat." Sylvie chimed. My eyes were on the lady, whom I found oddly familiar. "Thanks, this is my husband. We are the Adlers." The lady introduced her husband.

The man seemed to be less of a talker and left everything to his wife. "Oh, you are in the shipping company. I am Sylvie, and this is my husband, Pierre, from JayxTech." Sylvie extended her greeting.

"I have come across Pierre a couple of times. I didn't know h

MIKHAIL'S POV The car ride to the hotel was quiet, I was in no mood to talk to Ophelia, although she had tried to strike up a conversation. "I think it will be best to get the injured warrior back to Lunaria but travelling in his condition will be hard." She kept on talking knowing I was listening. The warrior she was treating was the one injured during the failed assassination attempt. The rogues poisoned him with something that slowed down his healing. Werewolves and Lycans normally can heal on their own unless when poisoned. Ophelia was called to treat the warrior but even she was having an issue discerning the poison. Whatever poison they were using was dangerous. "I will think about it. " I answered as the car rolled onto the red carpet. It was time to put on a show. The elders have been a bit nosy recently in my private matters. Even if I had no plans yet of settling down now, I had to keep those men under control and the way to do so is to play to thei

ADELINA'S POV "Is anything wrong?" Lawrence asked, sensing something was wrong with my mood. I shook my head then reached out to grab a glass of wine from a waiter. "No, I am just a bit overwhelmed." I lied, it was half true though. This was the first time I was attending an event like this. I have attended a few parties in the past, true, but I had very few public appearances unless it was extremely important and required my presence. My parents wanted to keep my relationship with the family anonymous. Unfortunately, they failed because the police got access to pictures they weren't meant to. The wine was sweet, I guess they had access to wines with low alcohol content. The liquid slipped down my throat, I was hoping it would help me ease my nerves. "Tell me when it gets too much. We can always leave." Lawrence suggested, and I nodded, seeing the genuine concern in his eyes. "I understand, but I don't want to come between your work. You still have to

ADELINA'S POV The project group list was eventually released after a few days on the group chat. Tell me why I was so unlucky. I stared at the phone screen cursing my fate This completely ruined my mood. "I don't think I want to go out anymore," I grumbled. Petra's face turned into a scowl. "What do you mean you don't want to go anymore? Not on my watch. You finally had your first date and don't want to go because of a silly group project." She snapped at me. I shrank back stunned by her tone. I was seated in front of the dressing mirror while Petra put on the finishing touches to my makeup. The company anniversary event was tonight and Mr Simons thought it was the best day to release a list that placed me in the same group as Asher Rossi. He was even the group leader, there was an extra group member. Hazel is one of Kimberly's former minions. This was just the best arrangement to get me killed by Kimberly easily. "Kim is going to kill me faster than I ex

ADELINA'S POV We arrived at the luxury store, and it was going to be an anniversary event, so a simple dinner dress would do. Lawrence seemed like he didn't joke with details. I have known this store since my family had a Cover Up fashion store. From the way Lawrence was treated, it was obvious he was a VIP member, and that made one thing certain: Lawrence might be working under Mikhail, but he came from money himself. It was subtle but his refined mannerisms, he acted like a trained heir. It wasn't my place to investigate his background. There was still the fact that he looked like Petra, but their surnames are different. "Has anything caught your attention?" He asked after a while the sales girl was introducing designs to us. "Not really," I chirped while studying the clothes. Lawrence nodded understanding then he glanced at the sales girl. "Do you have any dresses in green? It will suit her hair better." He requested. The sales girl gave me a good look

ADELINA'S POV He didn't want me to fall for him. I also snorted at him. "Proud of you to think I will fall for someone from your family." I sneered at him. He smiled at me. "Let's hope you don't bite back your words," Mikhail answered. ***** Later that night I ended up working till late at night. Once again I was the last person left in the large office. "Ophelia," I muttered, my mind spiralling thinking about her. What was the nature of her relationship with Mikhail? I could not help but wonder. Footsteps echoed, someone approached but I didn't bother to check who. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee hit me drawing my attention to a cup of warm coffee that was placed on my desk "I suspected you were still here." Lawrence chimed, pulling over Lydia's seat. His eyes curiously glanced at my desktop screen. "I have some overtime work to do. Are you leaving now?" I asked, but it was hard to concentrate when my mind kept thinking about things that were
