Chritsmas special part 2

Christmas is the time for family and friends to spend time together. I invited all my closest friends to come and spend time with me and Liam. It has been years since we had a house full of people. My parents always went big at Christmas. They always invited the whole family, but after they died it was like the whole family just vanished from the face of the earth. This year we have something to celebrate. It was a hard year. The paperwork came back a week ago. I am officially Liam's legal guardian. No one will be able to take him away from me now. It is all thanks to Patrick.

Dominic closes the pub on Christmas and that is also the day that we are closed during the year. I am grateful for the time off away from the pub. Since Cleo was fired for the role that she played in taking my brother away, I have been working non-stop. We don't have another singer lined up. 

There is a knock on the door. Kai is standing outside.

"Where is Ava?" I asked Kai. he is looking extremely nervous and I wonder why.

"She quickly went to her parent's house to drop off the presents she bought for them."

"Good, so we have some time to talk about the surprise you want me to be a part of?"

"You promised me a while ago that if I ever asked Ava to marry me that you will help me?"

"Yes, I remember. What about it?

 "I want to ask her to marry me tonight. I was thinking after dinner and all the presents have been giving out that I will ask her to marry me then."

"O that is a great idea. I can't wait." 

"Who did you invite?"

"I invited Domonic and his wife, Scott, you and Ava and Partick and his son."

"damn I didn't buy anyone presents."

"Don't worry about it. I am the only one that bought presents for everyone. All though I have to say that it is more of a thank you."

There is another knock on the door. 

"Look who I found," Ava says smiling. Behind her is everyone that I invited. It is weird that everyone came at the exact same time.

Everyone went to sit the presents that they bought underneath the tree. Liam greeted everyone but took Jimmy and they ran off to play in his room. There are still a few minutes before our dinner is ready so with Ava's help I gave everyone some wine. Except for Domonic's wife. She is pregnant. Heavy pregnant actually. I think she has a week left to go before she is due to go into labor.

We all sat down at the table and start talking. Everyone is so excited for what the year has in store for us. I honestly hope next year is much better than this year. The woman helped me to clean up before we all go to the living room to give out presents.

First, we start with Liam and Jimmy. They are the smallest and they can hardly contain their excitement. Everyone brought them a present. From Domonic and his wife, they each received a new PlayStation game. From Scott, they received action figures. From Kai and Ava, they got clothes. I bought them each a construction vehicle that they can use to play in the sand.

Once they were finished it was time for the adults. I stood up and gave each one their present from me. Domonic and his wife opened up theirs first. I bought them the cutest onesies I could find for their baby. Domonic told me a few months ago that they were having a little girl. The onesie says 'Queen of daddy's heart' the second one says 'You think I am cute? Just look at my mom'.

I see that it is now getting darker and darker outside. so I decide to stall for more time. It needs to be completely dark for my plan to work. I already discussed it with Kai and he has agreed. Ava gets her present last.

Scott opened up his presents next. I managed to buy his 4 CDs of his favorite artists. It was really hard to find since some of them still have to be released.

Then it was Kai's turn. I got him rugby tickets. He is one of the biggest rugby supporters that I know. He has never missed one game that the All blacks have played against anyone. 

now for Patrick. I bought him some gold-covered cufflinks. He is a lawyer and figured that he uses them quite a lot. Especially when he needs to go to court.

It is the moment of truth. 

"Ava I want you to close your eyes. I didn't get time to wrap your present because it came literally 10 minutes before you arrived." Ava smiles and closes her eyes. I nod at Kai and walk to the light switch. I switched off the lights. In the background, the Christmas lights make the whole moment more romantic.

"Ava, honey, Open your eyes." Ava opens her eyes slowly. She looks at Kai in disbelief. Then it dawned on her.

"Ava. I have known you for a long time and I knew right after I met you that you were the woman for me. When you helped me gain legal custody of my best friend and her little brother I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. Now I am here today on my knees asking you to make my dreams come true and to become my wife." Even though it is dark I can see the tears on Ava's cheek.

"Yes, Kai. Thousand times yes." Ava says while helping Kai up. I turn up the light just in time for Kai to place the ring on her finger. Well, what do you know. My best friend is engaged.

"You knew didn't you?" Ava came running towards me.

"Of course I did. Did you honestly think he is this romantic?" Ava just laughed and gave me a hug.

"I am sorry for interrupting your fun guys and to ruin your moment, but we have to go." demonic says. I can see panic and fear in his eyes.

"Dom, what is wrong?" I ask in a calm voice.

"My wife's water just broke. We need to get to the hospital."

"You go. Do you have the hospital bag?" Dom looks at me in pure panic.

"No, we left it at home. We didn't think she will come tonight."

"Listen to me, Dom. Everything will be fine. You make sure your wife gets to the hospital. Scott knows where you live right?"

"Yes, he has a key for my house. Why?"

"Take your wife to the hospital. Scott will go and get the hospital bag. I will clean up here, then Scott and I will meet you at the hospital. Just message us with the hospital's name as soon as you get there."

I ushered Domonic and his wife out the door. I then turned around and told Scott what he needed to do and where to find the bag.

I cleaned up. I also explained to everyone what happened. Everyone understood the situation that we are in. Patrick volunteered to take Liam to his house for a sleepover. I was actually grateful for that.

Liam packed his bag and everyone filled out. I am currently sitting outside waiting for Scott to come back to pick me up. I see the car light and made my way to the driveway. I jumped in and we took off.

We arrived at the hospital and see Domonic waiting for us outside. He is a bunch of nervous energy once we finally got to him. He filled us in that his wife has already dilated 2cm and that it will probably be a long night in front of us. The doctor came out of the room and said it was okay for Domonic to go back in.

We spent the rest of Christmas waiting for that little girl to be born.

Finally in the early morning of the 26 Of December Mia Smith was born. I was so happy that I cried. Domonic said that they named her after me because I was the strongest woman that they know. They hope that Little Mia grows exactly up like her namesake.

I was named godmother of that little bundle of joy and Scott was godfather. That night we laughed ourselves silly for Scott's antics claiming that he will be the best godfather there ever will be and he will kill anyone who breaks her heart.
