I stared at him in the mirror, my heart caught in my throat. I opened my mouth to answer but just ended up closing it. Everything from year sixteen hung between us, or hung in me. He probably didn’t even care. He already did a lot to nineteen-year-old me. And judging from what he just called, he hadn’t changed much in the year I lost.

He started calling me fatty at seventeen, a year after my dad died. He never did it in Alpha Trojan’s presence, of course. He was too smart for that. At this point I still didn’t understand what made him change. Even when I probably burned alive in that science building, I didn’t know why my best friend started hating me.

“I don’t feel so good.” I forced a tight smile before scrunching up my face. “My tummy hurts and I feel lightheaded”.

I didn’t understand why there was a party that I supposedly had to fetch a dress for when I clearly just woke up from a coma.

“It’s probably all that sugar you keep chugging down.” Marcus made a disgusted face.

I didn’t turn to face him. The mirror felt easier. He was my biggest tormentor when I burned and I wasn’t ready to face him yet. Even after a year of not having to. A year that actually just felt like yesterday to me.

“Why is there a party?” I finally asked, meeting his gaze in the mirror. “Didn’t I just —”

“Ew,” he cut me off, bringing his palm to his mouth and pointing a finger at me in the mirror.

I frowned and looked down at myself in the mirror. That was when I noticed the small, wet, round circles that were forming around my nipples on my shirt.

I stared at them for several seconds, completely confused. Why the hell was my shirt wet? I touched one of the spots with two fingers and pulled them back immediately when I felt the dampness. My stomach twisted. Didn’t that usually happen with breastfeeding mothers?

I touched my breasts then, taking both into my palms. They felt soft and tender and full. My heart started beating so fast that I could hear it in my ears.

Moon Goddess, what was happening to me?

I looked at Marcus through the mirror, but he was already staring at me with that familiar disgusted expression.

“You’ll never s—” Marcus started but his voice quickly faded in the back as I felt soft lips slam onto mine, like a memory.

I closed my eyes and bit my lower lip as my brain took over.

“Touch me,” the man whispered against my lips.

I couldn’t see his face, but I could feel every inch of him against me. Hard muscle. Big, strong arms wrapped around my waist. His breath against mine.

My body jerked as someone shook me and my eyes flew open. Marcus had his hand on my shoulder. I slowly looked down at it, trying to make sense of what just happened, because my head suddenly hurt and I felt like I was about to crash.

What the hell was that?

“Go breastfeed those parasites of yours,” Marcus muttered, stepping away from me. “We leave in an hour.”

I grabbed the counter to steady myself and met his gaze in the mirror. “What do you mean?” The words came out shaky but I didn’t care.

He frowned, like I had two heads. “Stop with the melodrama already. It won't make my dad like you.”

I stared at him through the mirror. “What does that even mean?”

Marcus rolled his eyes. “You know exactly what I mean, fatty. You’ve already trapped him with kids, but you’ll never be his Luna.”

His voice was harder now, and even more than I remembered before that fire. He was playful before, brutal and cruel. But now? He was angry. And even that was directed at me.

“No, I don’t understand what’s going on.” My voice shook again and I was on the brink of tears because my head hurt. Which annoyed me because I hated sounding scared in front of him. “What parasites? What are you talking about? How did I trap Alpha Trojan?”

I was basically begging for answers.

Marcus stared at me for a moment, then let out a short, irritated laugh. “Are you seriously doing this right now?”

“Doing what?”

“This.” He waved his hand at me. “The confused little act. Is it just for me?”

“No!” I snapped, then immediately regretted raising my voice because the pain in my head got worse. I squeezed my eyes shut and pressed my fingers against my temple. “I don't know what you're talking about.”

Marcus stepped closer.

I instinctively moved back until my hip hit the counter.

“You've been doing this for months,” he said, his voice getting louder. “Always pretending you don't understand whenever things don't go your way.”

I blinked. “I just woke up after the fire at the academy.”

He looked at me for a second and then burst out laughing. “What fire? You are a real piece of work.” He pointed a finger at me. “Count your days. I’ll get rid of you for good. Even if it’s the last thing I do.”

He turned toward the door. “Go feed those things before he comes to get you.”

Then he was gone, and I was left there with more questions than answers and a migraine from Satan himself.

His palm connected with my cheek so hard that my ears rang. He might’ve been an omega, but that slap was all man.I just stood there, staring at the floor while the sting spread across my face. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding. Then I looked back at him. He was breathing hard, his face twisted with anger.I raised my hand and slapped him as hard as I could. In the past I never would’ve dared no, but it felt good to finally stand up for myself. Even though he’d probably make my life more difficult.Kieran's eyes were as wide as an owl. He looked between us like he'd suddenly found himself trapped in the middle of a pack war.“Oh, shit,” he muttered, taking a step back.Marcus slowly turned his face toward me. His hand went to his cheek as his eyes widened in disbelief. “You hit me?”“You hit me first,” I muttered. His jaw clenched and I thought he was going to hit me again, probably harder this time.Kieran moved between us. “Okay. No. Absolutely not.” He raised both hand

His gaze and smile turned toward me, making me blink and swallow. Then his lips hit mine before I could even process his face coming closer. I froze for a second, completely caught off-guard. His lips were soft and he tasted like caramel. His favorite sweetener.I leaned into the kiss without thinking much of it. It felt so familiar… and easy. Like I’d been in that moment a hundred times before. His tongue slipped into my mouth and an embarrassing low moan came out of me. The baby whined in my arms.“Can you not be disgusting?” Marcus muttered near us, making Trojan break off the kiss and kiss my forehead instead.Moon Goddess, how did I get here? How did this become my life?“You go get the dress,” Trojan murmured and gently took the baby from me. “I’ll take care of these two and make sure the preparations go smoothly.”“Thank fuck.” Marcus rolled his eyes.I just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights, all while trying to figure out how to tell my supposed baby daddy

I stayed in the bathroom for another few minutes because, honestly, I wasn't ready to go downstairs and face whatever Marcus meant. How was I twenty, with children, a missing year, and a relationship with Alpha Trojan that I couldn't remember starting? The worst part was that Trojan hadn't acted like we were a couple when he came into my bedroom. He sat on the edge of my bed and asked if I was feeling alright. He didn’t kiss me, hug me, or even touch me in a way that suggested we were anything more than a former guardian and ward. If Marcus was telling the truth, that meant I wasn’t in a coma. And he said there was never a fire, but I clearly remembered a fire. Was I losing it? Did I lose my memories? Or did I die and get reborn in the future? Okay, it was definitely not the latter. That would be nuts. I slowly walked toward the bedroom door.“Okay, Billie,” I whispered to myself. “You can do this.”I walked down the hallway and followed the sound of the crying downstairs. When

My eyes opened to a pounding on the door. The familiar ceiling of my bedroom came into view. I looked around a bit, wondering why I wasn’t in a hospital. Did they manage to save me?I remembered waking up coughing as smoke filled the old science building. I remembered the heat from the door when I tried to escape, the panic in my chest as I screamed for someone to let me out, and the voices outside as they finally realized I was trapped inside. Then came the hissing beneath me.The gas line.I remembered the explosion.I started inspecting myself for injuries, completely ignoring the knocking on the door. I was perfectly fine. I had no burns and I didn’t feel any pain. But that could’ve just been because my wolf healed fast. Or maybe I was asleep longer than I thought?“Billie,” Alpha Trojan muttered from outside the door, his deep voice sounding curious.“Yes?” I managed. My voice sounded throaty and nothing like my usually-on-edge self.A second later, the door opened and he

Professor Whitmore gave me a disgusted look, scrunching up his nose. “What happened to you?”I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off.“Go clean that shit off,” he muttered, stepping away from the door.I rushed out, laughter following me until I was in the hallway. And that’s when the tears came. I kept walking with my head down, wiping my cheeks with my sticky hands. I could hear people whispering as they passed me, and I knew some of them already saw the video or pictures from the classroom. It wouldn't take long before the whole academy knew what had happened.I wasn't going to the bathroom. I didn't want to stand in front of a mirror and look at myself, and I definitely didn't want to risk running into Marcus or any of his friends.I had another place in mind.My favorite hiding spot was at the far end of the school grounds, inside the old science building. It was technically off-limits, although students rarely went there anymore. The school had closed that section y
