Chapter 9

My feet are treading on a shady path. I could feel the pain of every little rock buried in it, as well as the thorny weeds I stepped on while holding back the sobs that wanted to escape my mouth. I could hear the voices and footsteps of whoever was pursuing me from a distance.

"Find her! She hasn't gotten that far yet!"

When I heard a loud bang from the gun, I dropped to my knees. I knelt down to examine the wound in my stomach and pressed it with my palm to stop the bleeding. The pain was draining all of my energy, and all I could do was shake my head gently to avoid fainting.

While trying to catch some air, I crawled in the opposite direction, thinking it would be safer. Even though I was on the verge of collapsing, I was able to lift my body despite the sharp point of the grass slitting my skin and inflicting a painful sting.
