Three forbidden mates. Three supernatural bonds. One twisted fate. A vampire bred for bloodshed. A dragon prince who defies his crown. A demon with nothing left to lose. For Marcus DeLuca, a mate has always been an impossibility. But fate gives him one anyway. A werewolf. His mortal enemy. And she’s already promised to her alpha. Will he betray his father and Elders to keep Danielle alive? Aidan is supposed to be untouchable. But one reckless decision—one taste of Sarah—and he shatters every rule that keeps their worlds apart. Now he’s losing control, becoming the greatest danger to Sarah’s life. Can he still protect his reluctant mate? Zane is used to being wanted. Desired. Feared. As an incubus, pleasure is his weapon—and his curse. But Elena is different. Smart. Ruthless. Untouchable. Not interested in him in the slightest. Can he survive the one woman who sees the monster inside him? Their bonds are brutal. Addictive. Dangerous. And the only thing more deadly than loving each other is what happens if they don't.
View MoreIt didn’t take a genius to figure out that Alessandro De Luca was batshit crazy.
With a raised brow, Marcus turned away from the floor-to-ceiling windows to eye his father and then the lifeless body at his feet. A dark red pool spread rapidly around it as it gushed from the large hole in the man’s neck.
His fangs itched as the intoxicating scent hit him, searing his nostrils. Clenching his jaw, he looked away from the temptation.
“Don’t judge me,” Alessandro snapped. “I said I wanted creases on the sleeves of this shirt; this fucking ingrate should have listened.”
Alessandro kicked the corpse across the room. It thudded against the wall, leaving a trail of blood on its way down.
His first thought was that the blood would stain, and that he would have to hire professional cleaners to remove the metallic, delicious scent. His second thought was that he now had to go through all the trouble of disposing of the body without being seen. He didn’t trust Cleanup not to report the killing. And that meant he would be late to meet Aidan.
Since the truce was called after the Great War, killing a human without good reason was illegal. It would do no good to remind his father of this. He was an Elder, so he had been present when the Council voted on the new laws.
“How long will our guests be here?” he asked Alessandro.
He looked away from the window again to look around the opulent suite, his sharp eyes not missing a thing. The penthouse suite overlooked Scarlet City, a sprawling urban maze glowing beneath them. He had scanned the surrounding two-mile radius many times. Everyone was either human or cleared to be in the area. The hotel was owned by one of their own, so it had been no trouble to ensure no bookings were made except the ones he had personally approved.
Two human maids were quietly unpacking in one of the bedrooms, probably unaware of their friend’s demise, while a vampire bodyguard stood just inside the entrance door. The guard’s gaze was glued on the mess that had landed right next to him, but he had served Alessandro long enough to know not to react. Two more guards stood outside, and the whole building was swarming with members of his League, an elite force of the army known throughout the realm for their systematic ruthlessness.
It had been his job to assemble only the best security, many of whom he’d called in from their posts around the country. They would handle any situation discreetly, professionally, and with all their inhuman skills and strength. It still did nothing to lessen the nagging in the back of his head.
“We’ll leave just after the Council meeting. Make sure you have everything in place by then.”
Great. A whole two weeks with a bunch of fucking sitting ducks.
He watched Alessandro wipe the blood from his mouth and hands before pouring himself a shot of whiskey into a crystal glass. The offending white shirt now lay useless in the pool of blood. Alessandro moved gracefully to the black leather sofa, straightening his black silk robe like he hadn’t just killed a man. He had always walked like that, like he didn’t give a shit about anything—which, of course, he didn’t. That was probably one of the reasons a lot of his enemies underestimated him.
That, plus the fact that he looked like a harmless twenty-five-year-old boy with nothing to offer but his good looks.
Had Alessandro been born into this generation, he would probably have been a movie star. He was tall, blond, with baby blue eyes. Soft features that belied the monster beneath. The only marker of his Italian heritage was his name. The accent had vanished long before Marcus was born.
Alessandro changed his hair depending on his mood and was known to dye it with strange colours. Now his hair was colour-free and tied at the back in a neat ponytail, a sure sign of how serious this meeting was.
His father picked up a file from the table, a report from one of his deputies that was among the many he had to read before the meeting. Alessandro had never been one for paperwork. It was highly likely he would only read one or two before passing them down.
And it was likely he would be the unfortunate recipient of his father’s workload, even though he was already in charge of more than three-quarters of the family’s empire.
“Yes, sir.”
The Elders hadn’t met since the war ended. Now they were gathering under one roof, with rumours of the truce ending. It was a terrible idea, no matter how heavily secured and how much power the occupants had. Then, to have the whole Council—all the leaders of the species they would soon be at war with—was an even worse idea. Any fool could have told them that.
“Maybe you should stay somewhere else,” he suggested. “You could use my apartment at Headquarters. It’s just as secure. Not an easy target.”
The last thing he wanted was to have his father anywhere in his space, even though he hardly used that apartment. But his first duty lay with his family. He had to protect his father.
“We’re not likely to get attacked here either, Marcus.”
“With all due respect, we’re in a fucking glass building that’s thirty storeys high and at the brink of war. This isn't the best tactical decision. Forgive me for not sharing your optimism.”
Even with all the extra security the witches had erected, if there was an attack, not many of them would come out of it intact. If some survived, they would take a long time to heal, and the war would be lost before it even began.
Alessandro put the paper down and trained his icy gaze on him. It was meant to intimidate him, and it fucking worked. Though he looked like a mere boy, Alessandro had more power in his little finger than many people combined, himself included. And he was never afraid to use it. In his five hundred years, Alessandro had earned his place among the Elders in the most gruesome fashion.
“Are you questioning our judgment, Marcus?”
The words were calm. Quiet. But the weight behind them was lethal.
His father crossed his legs and looked at him squarely in the eye. Alessandro would think nothing of condemning him to death, even though he held a valuable position both in the family and among their people. Family meant nothing in his father’s world. It was only respect and loyalty that mattered to him.
He bit down on his jaw.
“No, sir.”
Alessandro smiled a boyish smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. Like the psychopath he was. The danger had passed. For now. When tensions were high, like they were now, his father was very unpredictable and dangerous. Case in point: the bloodied corpse soaking the imported wool.
Alessandro flung the file to the end of the chair and stood to join him by the windows.
“So," Alessandro said, the grin sliding back into place, "two weeks until you start breeding. Isn’t it exciting?”
Dani walked into her old room and froze. A dress lay stretched across her bed. She sniffed, then growled when the Alpha’s lingering scent burned her nose. That bastard had let himself into her room. Again. This was why she’d moved out. Because Ethan could just stroll into her father’s house and act like she already belonged to him. Like he could force the mating at any time. Now that she was back, it was the same old bullshit. The dress gleamed in a clear garment bag, and it was expensive by the look of the fabric. She didn’t need to look at the tag to know it was designer. Ethan loved throwing his money around. He had done it a lot before, as if he thought gifts would change her mind.A note sat on top of it, and the handwriting scrawled on it was bold and possessive, like the man himself. ‘Wear this. Remember our agreement.’Her lip curled. Agreement? It was a threat. She shredded the paper and cursed under her breath. But she had no other moves to play. She had to wear the damn t
Marcus was still trying to process what he’d done when he drove back to headquarters. The look on that motel owner’s face kept replaying in his head.“You’re stronger,” Aidan stated.Marcus’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. “But how? Soul marks don’t do this. I get all the mirrored emotional bullshit, but this—” he gestured to himself “—whatever the hell this is, has nothing to do with that.” “Not for vampires,” Aidan countered. “But wolves share power when they mate. Maybe Dani is carrying some of yours, too.”The thought of Dani being stronger, even if she wanted nothing to do with him, gave him the smallest sliver of comfort. But still, what the hell was this?“How many other surprises is this stupid bond going to throw at me? I’m not going to start howling at the moon, am I?”“You might.”Marcus’s head snapped around just as he noticed Aidan’s grin. He almost veered off the road. “You’re a dick,” he snarled. “Go and find answers. Someone must know something.” Aidan was l
Dani shut down her computer, the screen going dark like the empty shop. It felt bare. Hollow. The last car had been collected, the lease ended, and the landlord paid off. The loose ends were knotted enough for her to cut herself free. But freedom didn’t feel like this. All day, her chest had ached as if her heart had been carved out and crushed. And she couldn’t even blame Marcus because this wound was self-inflicted. She’d told him to stop coming. She’d pushed him away. Because she had to. They were on different paths, from different worlds. And it was ridiculous that she was mourning after a handful of nights in his arms. Yet it felt real. She felt severed, like a limb had been torn off. But she would walk it off. She’d bite down, pull up her armour, and meet this head on. There was more at stake here, something much bigger than her lust for Marcus.Without Kira, she was vulnerable. Just a shell of who she really was. And her wolf wouldn’t return with Marcus around. Her fast me
Marcus walked into headquarters with his full gear on, every step radiating the anger he didn’t bother hiding. The League was already assembled, waiting, but the moment he reached the front of the room, the air changed. If they couldn’t see the fury simmering in him beneath his set jaw and heated glare, they could feel it. The room was packed with killers, vampires of all ages, with an arsenal of abilities that he’d sharpened into weapons. They were war machines. This was what he was born for; this was what he knew. To fight. To lead. Dani had made him weak, made him forget himself. His people came first, always. It was his duty. He was never going to forget that again.“You know your assignments?” His voice was cold.“Yes, sir,” they answered in unison.“No rest until we’ve searched the whole city. Tear it apart if you have to. We may not find this witch, but I know something or someone is here.” His instincts were rarely wrong. Someone would target the Elders or the whole Council.
Marcus watched his father sitting behind the desk in his newly claimed suite, papers spread like a battlefield across the polished wood. Alessandro’s witch hovered beside him, handing him more documents, while a group of his guards whispered and schemed something at the far end of the room. For once, they were all working, even if it was on one of Alessandro’s schemes. Normally, Marcus would have found the scene surreal, almost comical. But today there was only a hollow ache tearing through his chest. And he knew the cause of it. Dani. He felt her anxiety crawling under his skin, a constant pull he couldn’t ignore. Every instinct screamed at him to go, to protect her, but instead, he was chained babysitting a bunch of egomaniacs. “If you don’t need me here, I’ll go and meet Gray,” he lied, already moving towards the door. “Why don’t you take Bethany for dinner tonight?” Alessandro’s voice rang out. “Her father is nervous that you’ve changed your mind.”Marcus turned, trying to mask
Alister returned downstairs just before the doorbell rang. Dani let out the breath she’d been holding, but her relief was short-lived. One sharp warning glance from her father reminded her to keep her mouth shut.“Alpha,” Alister said, stepping aside with a deferential nod. Ethan strolled in as though the house belonged to him. The air shifted instantly, thick with his dominance. Dani’s stomach knotted, a shiver running down her spine despite her effort to mask it. From his glance and the quick flare of his nostrils, she knew he’d scented her fear.To outsiders, Ethan looked every bit the ideal Alpha. Tall and broad, more muscular than all his warriors. His features were sharp, and his grey eyes warm enough to deceive the uninitiated. His burgundy hair was slicked back, paired with a tailored suit that made him appear civilised. Charming, even. But Dani knew better. Beneath the polish, his heart was as dark as sin. Rotten. A wolf who had taken pleasure in the war’s bloodshed and n
