Cancelled Engagement 5

“What sister in law?!” Jade Greeley narrowed her gaze questioningly at Carla Hoyle.

Was her gut feeling right all along?

Something was definitely not adding up.

“What exactly is going on here?” Jade Greeley asked with a strained quizzical look. She glanced at her parents before turning to take a look at Chairman Hoyle and his family.

“Is no one going to say anything?!” Jade Greeley asked her parents in blank amazement.

“Would someone tell me what this is all about? Who is she calling sister in law?” she asked with slightly furrowed brows. When she spoke she turned and faced Carla and her family as if they were the only ones who could speak the truth at the moment.

‘I hope this brat doesn’t ruin things for us,’ Elizabeth Greeley thought to herself.

“Oh sorry we forgot to introduce you two. Jade honey~ this is your fiancé,” Elizabeth Greeley uttered with a pleasing smile as if she cared about how Jade Greeley would act. She pointed her hand in the direction of a young man who had been standing at the side quietly since a long time ago.

The young man had quite a striking resemblance with Chairman Hoyle. He was neatly dressed in a tailored black suit and looked dashing but that was the least of Jade Greeley’s thoughts.

‘What? Honey~? Fiancé?!!! Are you kidding me?!!’ Jade Greeley screamed off in her head. Her veins nearly popped with how enraged she was. She felt disgusted at how Elizabeth Greeley always acted like she cared for her in front of others.

“Hi I am Wil…” William Hoyle who was quietly by the side all this while stepped forward and tried to introduce himself. He extended his right hand out for a hand shake but was completely ignored by Jade Greeley as she rudely interrupted him.

“I never consented to any of this!!” Jade Greeley spat out in rage. She glared at William Hoyle’s outstretched hand ferociously as if she wanted to bite his hand off.

“Jade, hon~ what are you talking about? I clearly told you that you will be meeting someone very important tod…….” Elizabeth Greeley said, trying to brush off what Jade Greeley said.

Before Elizabeth Greeley could finish her statement, Jade Greeley interrupted her as she could no longer listen to her hogwash anymore.

“It doesn’t change the fact that I did not give my consent to this!! Why don’t you go ahead and plan Lily’s engagement? I’m sure she is more eager to get married. If he was so important, why didn’t you deem it fit to even let me know properly? I am not getting engaged to him and that is final!” Jade Greeley hissed angrily gritting her teeth as she maintained her stance.

Jade was completely ticked off by now. Her voice had boomed louder than before, alerting a few people who were close by to turn their heads towards the drama unfolding.

This so-called family of hers has never cared for her one bit and now that it was time to sell her off to another family for a business corporation, they seemed to be at the forefront.

How low could they be?

When she heard what Jade said, Lily Greeley had a dark expression on her face. Her contorted facial expression went unnoticed because all attention was focused on Jade. “Sister~ what are you saying? Mom is obviously worried about you. And you are older than me so why would I get married before you,” Lily Greeley spoke in defence of her mother who was now on the verge of shedding crocodile tears.

“You expect me to believe that! Besides, I don’t need her worrying about my affairs! I can handle them myself! She never bothered about them before anyways!” Jade Greeley retorted sharply, throwing an icy glare at Lily Greeley.

“I… I-I only did that be…because I-I thought you wouldn’t show up if you knew the truth. I was only wor…ried about you,” Elizabeth Greeley lamented while shedding a few fake tears. Meanwhile, she was internally biting at her hankie while cursing at Jade, ‘Why can’t this brat just follow the story?’

‘Worried?’ Again! That word Jade could not fathom believing at any moment in her life being used for her. Jade Greeley clenched her fist as she was robbed of her words at how shameless this mother and daughter were.

Jade Greeley rashly grabbed a glass of wine from a waiter who was close by and downed the entire content in one fell swoop before stalking off. Ignoring the several calls to her.

“Jade?”

“Jade?!!!”

“Jade~ hon~ where are you going?”

“Miss Jade?!!”

“Sister in law?”

Jade Greeley did not even bother to excuse herself from their midst. She just ignored the calls from everyone and walked away, leaving the Main Hall. She was too angry to deal with them right now. Their antics were becoming too much to handle. She even waved off Meg Chu who attempted to follow her.

At first, Jade Greeley headed towards a quiet balcony to cool off a bit, but she changed her mind and went to the bathroom instead. Luckily for her no one was in there at that time. She walked to the sink and started washing her hands profusely. As if there was filth that she was trying to rub off them. She stopped her actions as quickly as she started. Grabbing onto the sink, she glanced at herself in the mirror in the bathroom.

Her pair of eyes held a mixed shade of emotions. She felt utmost ire when she recalled what just transpired in the Main Hall. Yet, there seemed to be an underlining sadness hidden behind her anger.

“Why was she never worried about me all these years? Am I not her daughter as well? Even when I was captured, they all acted like I was the cause of it. That I… I….” she muttered to herself.

Bitter tears slowly descended from the corner of her eyes as she remembered her unpleasant past. All the sinister incidents that happened to her since a young age only made her feel worse. No one even tried to believe her or even cared about how she was. The only person who made an attempt only arrived when it was too late.

‘Now she wants to claim that she is a good mother who is worried for her daughter,’ Jade Greeley’s eyes flashed with anger once again. Tears still rolling down her cheeks. Small sobs escaped her lips in muffled sounds.
