Cancelled Engagement 1

An arranged marriage seems to be a norm amongst business associates or acquaintances, and Jade Greeley’s engagement was no more than that.

She wasn’t like most girls who would be squealing with joy and pure happiness at the thought of being engaged to their one true love because she wasn’t even accorded such an opportunity.

Yes! She was getting engaged alright, but it was merely an arrangement organized between her father, Matt Greeley, and one of her father’s business friends. An arrangement that she was not even aware of.

Her’ mother’, Elizabeth Greeley, only informed her of the banquet and made sure she would attend.

Jade Greeley is usually never made aware of anything happening in the Greeley Mansion. It was no different this time. She had stopped caring since she moved out to stay in her school dormitory, and she never really stayed in the house afterward.

Part of the reason why she delved into the business world was to be accepted by her family. She has always felt unaccepted and shut out of the family like she did not belong there.

Whatever they decide to tell her is usually as much as she would know. As they never paid her any heed, she also never bothered about them or their activities. She only focused on herself and the company.

She was never told of the reason behind the banquet being held nor for whom it’s being held. She assumed that it was a party organized for one of her sisters.

Maybe her elder sister, Scarlett Greeley, was back, so they decided to throw a welcoming party. Or, as usual, it was a congratulatory party for the menial achievements of Lily Greeley that was being praised. But she could not care less for such social functions anyway.

Being the business-minded woman she was, she couldn’t care less, so she called her assistant, Meg Chu. Meg Chu was the personal assistant to the one and only Jade Greeley, the CEO of Greeley Corporation.

Meg Chu and Jade Greeley had become close during school times, and she ended up being Jade’s assistant when she took over the rein from her father.

Even though her father, Matt Greeley, was still the company’s Chairman, she has successfully spelt her name in the business world by raising the company to even greater heights than her father did. And she did that in just about 3 years after she graduated.

Jade Greeley spoke out immediately after the call connected without waiting for any form of pleasantries from Meg Chu, “Email my schedule and the finalised documents of the proposal with ZChain Corporation for me to review immediately.”

Meg Chu already had predicted after working for her boss for as long as five years now and already completed the work, replied groggily, “Good morning boss, I sent them to your email last night, and I’ve contacted ZChain Corporation to inform them that we will get back to them today for the signing after we’ve reviewed the proposal for the proposed collaboration. I fixed the meeting for 2 pm, and you don’t have anything planned after that as per madam’s wishes.”

A small amusing smile crept unto Jade’s lip at the competency of her assistant.

After a moment of not hearing anything from the other side, Meg Chu asked, “Boss is there any other thing you needed.”

“That will be all, Meg,” Jade Greeley replied, returning to her usual cold business-like manner before she ended the call.

Since the banquet would be taking place later in the day, and Jade Greeley had woken up early as per her regular routine, she went to her study room to check her email and review the business proposal.
