Elizabeth

I couldn’t breathe. Even the air itself felt like poison.

Tomorrow was the Lunar Ceremony, and I was not marked. My mother will be here soon—how do I explain why I wasn’t marked till now after telling her I had everything under control?

The thought haunted me. My palms were cold and sweaty, my heart racing fast, and every second in the packhouse felt like hell because everywhere buzzed with preparation for tomorrow. Everyone whispered about the full moon and how I was going to be crowned Luna—but that wouldn’t be possible because I wasn’t fucking marked.

I pushed the table in front of me. It fell and hit the wall, shattering instantly.

Nathan hadn’t said anything about it, even when he knew it was tomorrow. He was still angry because of what I did to that worthless thing. He was still punishing me. I knew it.

I clenched my fists so hard my nails cut into my palms. Her name alone made my blood boil. She had ruined everything—every moment, every chance I had to make him mark m

ElizabethI hadn't seen him for almost an entire day. I kept hoping he wasn't with her, but when I got to the infirmary there he was seated beside her—my hope shattered. He hadn't moved in hours, his elbow rested on his knees, his head bowed, his hands occasionally brushing against hers like he couldn't stop himself. The healer had left and the room smelled of different herbs.Seeing him like that made my blood boil. How long was he going to be there pretending like she was going to die if he didn't stay by her side?I crossed my arms and leaned across the doorway, forcing a bitter smile. “You do realize she's healing, right? It's not like she's dying or something.”He didn't even spare me a glance. My lips pressed into a thin line. My fists tightened by my sides.“Her wounds are really not that deep,” my voice came again, sharp enough to slice through metal. “Nathan, the healer said she'd be fine, so I see no need for you to—”“Leave,” he snapped. His tone cut through my unfinished s

Nicholai“I think I’m actually losing it,” I muttered under my breath, rubbing my temples. The room was dimly lit by the dying glow of the fireplace. I sat across from Callan, one of the very few people who could still look me straight in the eyes when I wasn’t myself. He didn’t flinch when I said things like that; he just sighed like he understood what I was going through. His hand rose as he poured another cup of tea.“You’ve been saying that for weeks,” Callan said. “So what exactly are you losing? Your mind or... your patience?” He offered me a cup. “Because I know it’s her that’s on your mind—our special lady.” He smirked.I huffed out a laugh, but it didn’t reach my chest. “Both, probably. The demon has been restless again. I can feel him crawling under my skin, waiting for something—hell, I don’t even know what. It’s like I can’t keep him contained anymore.”Callan’s expression was weary. “Nicholai, for years we’ve always tried to keep your demon under lockdown. What if that’s

NathanI had been waiting in the dark for hours, not because I enjoyed the stillness—no—but I knew everything perfect takes time, so I didn't rush. I sat motionless, basking in the warmth of the quietness of the mansion, my breathing slow and measured. My fingers traced the armrest in a rhythmic pattern, imagining it was her throat under my hand.I stood up and walked toward the bar, pouring myself a bottle of whiskey. It was dark, but I could see things as clear as day.I heard footsteps approaching. I had expected to see only the head witch, but she wasn't alone. Smart. Maybe she sensed death waiting for her. I rolled my shoulders, feeling my muscles coil beneath my skin. I didn't care. The more, the merrier. More blood to paint the walls. The head witch’s eyes moved through the room, her senses heightened, her magic prickling against my skin. "There's someone here," she hissed, and with a sharp flick of her wrists, every light in the mansion exploded to life at once.I was seated

NathanIt started first as a little whisper in my ears, faint... echoing from a distance.I was still at the office, burying my head deep into work. I had no plans of going back to the packhouse that night. I didn't want to go back. That was when something tugged at me, not through my ears but through something that shouldn't be, something that never should have existed.A bond.My pen slipped immediately from my fingers, clattering onto the desk.My chest burned; it felt like it was set ablaze. I clutched my chest. I couldn't breathe anymore. What the hell was happening? My vision started to blur, and then suddenly I felt pain but it wasn't mine. It wasn't from my mate, Elizabeth either. My whole body went rigid. It was hers.Kaima.But how?The agony tore through me so hard that I staggered back, trying to steady myself. My legs trembled, I held on to the edge of the table, knuckles turning white. My claws started elongating before I even realised I was shifting; my pulse quickened.

KaimaYou do not care, Kaima. You do not care. It's none of your business whatever he chose to do—just get up and go home.It felt like it was duct tape that held me together. I was trying my best to stay calm, but it wasn’t working.I just wanted to go home and not see him, because there was no way in hell I could handle seeing him right now.His hands on her, her lips on his, the way he didn’t stop her—it all came back, replaying in my head like it was on loop.I kept my head down as I walked out of the office building, my chest tight, pulse loud in my ears. The night air was cold, sharp, biting into my skin as if reminding me to let myself feel pain.“Kaima!”I heard his voice call to me and instantly I stopped in my tracks, my heart racing. I turned slightly—just enough to see him standing where his car was parked, his eyes glowing under the dim light. He looked exhausted.“Can we talk?” he asked, stepping closer.I wanted to say yes. I wanted to ask him why he let her touch him l

NathanElizabeth was everywhere. Her scent, her voice—it was just too much. Her fingers traced down my jaw as she kissed me, but all I could think about was the woman seated on the other side of my office—what would she be thinking?Even with Elizabeth in my arms, all I saw was Kaima’s face. The way she had looked at me earlier that day, concerned when she saw me stumble just slightly. Elizabeth was my mate, yet all I wanted to do was push her off.Kaima was living rent-free in my head at this point, and anytime I tried to push her out, she found a way back in.Elizabeth moved her mouth from my neck and back to my lips, deepening the kiss—desperate and claiming, trying to make me respond. But I couldn’t, even if I wanted to—I just couldn't. Not with Kaima across from me.Her hands moved under my shirt, scraping my skin, trying to make me excited, but there was nothing. No heat, no… nothing. Just emptiness. She is your mate. I told myself over and over again, but it didn’t change anythi
