No Simple Fix
My words have the group surprised, but more so my anger at Rakesh’s foolish wish had them worried I might hurt him. Fortunately for the fool, killing him now wouldn’t fix things, nor would it make me feel any better.
“I don’t think he meant for it to include Gods and spirits,” Kayden tried to assure me. I knew he was right. It wasn’t as though Rakesh meant for this to happen, but he should have known better than to be vague with the spirits.
What was worse was he didn’t remember any of this himself. Had he remembered, then I could have fixed his mess before it got this far. Unfortunately, it had been far too many years that this would not be a simple fix.
Looking back at Rakesh, Kayden offered a comforting smile before he returned his attention to me. "He only meant to include the Ancient Ones. We were once humans after all. So it would make sense to wish for them to return to being mortals. Right?"

As my eyes flash gold, I put all of my magical prowess into casting this spell. I would never have used such a spell on Max, as it isn’t really a solution to the problem we’re facing. However, it will keep him alive and safe until I can figure out a way to free him from Hafgan’s soul as well as ensure the spirits don’t become unhappy. Slowly, Max closes his eyes, falling into a deep sleep while a layer of crystals creeps up from his toes to his head, engulfing him in the magical shield I’ve cast over him. I don’t stop casting the spell until every inch of Max has been covered. It is only then; I allow the exhaustion to wash over me, bringing me down onto my knees. I pant heavily and glance up at my lover. He looks so peaceful within the crystals that it seems almost unreal that he has suffered at all. Once I’ve rested enough to have regained my strength and powers to a more acceptable level, I slowly stand up. As I get closer to the museum, I land and shift back into my human form. It is getting late, but the place is still open for now. The path towards where the phoenix lived was almost akin to walking up the path to a volcano. Of course, things were not that simple here in the underworld. Had I been a mortal taking these trials, I would have had a much tougher time passing through. My only real challenge will be with the phoenix itself. The further the phoenixes take me, the more the volcano shifts from rocky mounds to something more Egyptian. Each ‘building’ seems to be made of the volcano's surface itself and carvings of the sun are depicted everywhere.Given where the phoenix King once lived in the mortal world, it is no surprise to me that this is the style they would craft their home now. After all, Ra was very much revered there.Finally, we reached the Sun God’s summit in the volcano.
