Nina’s POV

They hadn't noticed me. Their mouths moved together, kissing. My stomach tightened.

Oh no. Please, God. No.

Liam lifted his head. His cold blue eyes cut straight to me. Fear struck into me and I shook, my hands tightening around the broom.

His words were sharp. “Did I give you permission to enter?”

“I… I’m sorry. No one answered so… I didn’t think anyone was in. And…”

“Get out!” His voice filled the whole room and bounced off the walls.

I tried once more. “I wanted to c… clean.”

Liam's POVI shoved the door to my room open and stepped inside, my blood still boiling. The whole day had gone to shit after I saw Nina limp back into the house with those shopping bags. Who did she think she was, sneaking out without a word? I yanked my tie loose and threw it on the floor. My suit jacket came next. I pulled my shirt over my head and tossed it onto the chair by the window. The fabric landed in a heap. Why couldn't she just stay put? I ran a hand through my hair and paced to the closet. This marriage was supposed to be simple on paper. Endure it for a year, then done. But she kept pushing buttons I didn't even know I had. I stripped off the rest of my clothes and grabbed my bathroom robe, tying it around my waist. The shower would clear my head. I headed for the bathroom door when it swung open behind me.Anya walked in, hips swaying in that tight dress she liked. I didn't turn around. "What do you want, Anya?""That's no way to talk to your girlfriend." Her voice c

Nina's POV The doorbell rang later. Frank opened it. I stood next to him. Frida burst through with both arms raised high and ran straight at me. “Hi, girlie. I missed you! I was thinking you wouldn’t call even though it was so soon after your wedding but it was worth it.”“I missed you too.” I wrapped my arms around her and held on.She pulled back fast, eyes bright. “I want to know everything. Does he treat you right? I saw the pictures and I hate that bitch you call a sister. Doesn’t she know when to let go? But that’s not my concern.” She drew in a quick breath. “So, how was it? The honeymoon.”My face dropped. Frida saw it right away. “Never mind. He’s an idiot. Besides, it was shotgun bullshit. You’re still a wife. And I’m here to make your day fun.” She grabbed my wrist and pulled me toward the door.Frank waved his hands trying to slow us. Pain shot through my ankle when she tugged. Frida stopped suddenly. She looked down at the cast. “What the hell happened to you?”I glanced

Nina's POV My head hit the floor. The room blurred. Loud ringing filled my ears. When the blur cleared Anya dragged me upward by the arm. The second my left foot touched down, and an instant pain tore through it. I bent forward.“Stop your foolish whining and go make me some food or God help you Liam’s going to hear of it and you’ll be sorry.”Fast footsteps came down the hall. Liam’s voice cut in sharp from outside. “What’s going on there?”Anya’s eyes widened, and she smirked wickedly. She snatched a vase from the side table, raised it high, and brought it down hard on her own head. She dropped to the floor and started crying loudly. “Why would you do that to me?”I stared at her with my mouth open. The door flew open. Liam rushed inside and knelt beside her right away.“You monster. What did you do to her?” His voice filled every corner.I shook my head back and forth fast. “I didn’t. I swear. It wasn’t me…”“Not you? I let you go the last time because I was hoping it wouldn’t rep

Leave before I lose it.”I turned on my heel and rushed out. The broom handle shook in my grip. My chest rose and fell fast. I moved down the hallway, feet quick on the floor. My lips moved without sound. “It’s fine. You’ll be okay. You’re just married on paper. Nothing to be hurt about. You knew this.”The words changed nothing. My lips started to shake. Water gathered at the corners of my eyes. I shook my head hard and hurried down the stairs.“Nina!”Liam

Nina’s POV I stepped into my room and closed the door behind me. My fingers pulled at the apron strings until the knot came loose. The fabric slipped from my waist. I let it fall onto the chair near the window. It landed in a wrinkled pile. I stared at the empty space around me for several seconds, hands hanging at my sides.Frank appeared in the doorway. His footsteps were quiet on the floor. “Don’t think too much about it. Master Liam isn’t always like this. I’ll speak to him.”I kept my back turned and ran my palms down the sides of my dress. My shoulders stayed level. “Thank you. But I wouldn’t bother you. It’s fine.”He waited without moving. “I think you should speak for yourself. You’re the rightful wife.”I turned around and looked straight at him. “But I didn’t get here honorably. If I hadn’t been drunk and caught with him, it would have been Anya in this position. I understand her anger. I would be angry too.”Frank dropped his gaze to the floor. His jaw moved once. He lift

Nina's POV The tears were burning my eyes, but I wasn't crying in front of her. "Leave now, Anya.""Or what?" Closer now, and her words cut like a knife. "Gonna cry to Daddy? Sorry, sweetie, he doesn’t give a damn. And Mom? She never did either. Go ahead, get Nina. I was always his top choice. He prefers something exciting over boring old commitment."My hands trembled. "This is my home. My marriage...""Marriage?" Anya rolled her eyes. "A piece of paper. Worthless. He'll just chuck it later. Until then, I'm staying right here. This is my spot."Frank appeared in the hallway, remaining mostly quiet. “Miss Anya, perhaps we should..”"Stay out of this, old man," she retorted without looking at him. Her eyes focused on me. "Go ahead, Nina. Scream your lungs out. Cry until your eyes burn. I'll take so much pleasure watching you throw your usual tantrums. And guess what? It won't change anything because you are worthless. You hear me?”Each word sliced through me. I staggered, unable to
