Chapter 4: He is Back

The sound of the piano begins to play and slowly people walked on the aisle until she was the last one. She breathes deeply and begins moving her feet.

The wedding guests gasped at the beautiful bride. They were expecting for Stephanie to be in a wedding dress, but the news broke out that Arnold has another daughter. No one knew what she looked like and is expecting to see it.

Amber never looked up to her groom and obediently listened to the priest's words.

"Will you, Amber Miller, take this man, Max Easton, as your husband, to love and cherish until death do us part?"

Amber's lips froze and her teeth clenched together. She held the bouquet tightly.

Rowen Easton's words begins to echo in her mind. 'The answer is in your heart.'

He wants her to love his son? She looked up and her eyes shined. Max Easton is a beautiful man, but there is a pool of darkness within his blue eyes. He looks tough and she can see that this man needs love. Someone who will love him.

Hope begins surging in her heart. Max Easton is known to be a cold and dangerous man, but she didn't care.

If she couldn't find genuine love anywhere then she will get it from her husband. With renewed determination she said the final words.

"I do."

Amber's memory of her own wedding is still fresh in her mind. That was the first time in years since her heart lightened up. Her eyes sparkled and heart jumping in joy. It feels like she is alive again.

The moment he lifted her veil, she was even more mesmerized of his beauty. Despite his cold eyes he still looked beautiful. That's when it became her mission to offer every piece of her love to Max.

Sadly, Max had an emergency meeting and hasn't returned yet to their home. She is currently living in Max's house. A house gifted from Rowen Easton.

She waited everyday in hopes that he will return. Rowen even apologized for Max's schedule and promised her that he'll bring him back as soon as possible.

The days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months. One year has already passed and there is still no news about him.

Despite all of that Amber still continued being a dutiful wife. She cleaned every corner of the house leaving not a single speck of dust. There are no maids in the house as Max doesn’t like having them around.

Well, except for Linda. She is a sweet lady and has been working with the Easton family for 50 years. Rowen personally assigned Linda to keep her company while Max is still busy with work.

“Amber, here are the ingredients you asked for.” Linda called her out.

Diego helped the women carry the groceries. He is also assigned by Rowen to carry out Amber’s orders, a personal bodyguard and as her driver.

“Thank you so much! Please, I made dinner early. You must be famished.” Amber smiled.

When Linda and Diego were asked to work for Amber they expected her to be the same as her sister, Stephanie. And they were surprised that Amber is way different from the spoiled heiress.

Amber is kind, gentle and humble with the people around her. She’s like a pure flower that never became tainted by the Miller family’s lavish lifestyle.

“Amber, did you spend the whole day cleaning the house again? What would I say to Mr. Easton once he finds out about it? I don’t want you to get tired from cleaning.” Linda said worriedly.

“I’m fine, Linda. I enjoy cleaning very much and it helps me relax. It also keeps me distracted throughout the day.”

“Alright, sometimes I wonder if you’re obsessed with cleaning or something.” Linda shrugged her shoulders then helps Amber with the groceries.

Amber pursed her lips. Linda wasn’t wrong.

Ever since her mom died her father, Arnold Miller, married Valencia and had Stephanie who is only two years younger than her.

It was hard to take in that she'll be having a new mother and a little sister. She adjusted to the new changes in the family. Everything seems to be perfect but unexpectedly things would change in a different way.

Valencia never liked her from the beginning and did everything in her power to push her out of the picture. Stephanie became the face of the Millers and everyone adored her. All of the things that she once owned are now Stephanie's property.

She hoped that her father would do something but he never did. She wasn't expecting anything from him since the day she discovered that he's been cheating on her mom few years after she was born. That's where Valencia became his mistress and gave birth to her half-sister.

She became a maid and suffered under the hands of Brenda, the Miller family’s head maid. She made sure to clean the house well or else she’ll be punished.

Amber reached out and touched her backside. She trembled. Linda and Diego may see her as a pure girl and she wasn’t. Her big secret is right there at her backside, the scars of her life.

Being a maid all throughout her childhood, she began developing a disorder. She becomes uncomfortable whenever there is dirt and couldn’t help but clean it immediately.

“What are you going to do with these ingredients anyway? This is my first time seeing a girl spend their husband’s money on baking ingredients.” Linda commented.

Amber shook her head. Yes, Max left his black card with unlimited money for her to spend. Unlike other girls, Amber didn’t like to spend his money.

So, she decided to pay back the money she owed by starting up a business.

Baking and cooking is something that she cherished wholeheartedly. It reminds her of her mother. That’s why she asked Diego to buy the ingredients to start making her own recipe.

“I want to sell my desserts. I really love baking and it reminds me of my mom. I hope Max won’t mind if I start up a business? I don’t really like using his money so I will sell desserts then return whatever I owe. This is a good investment isn’t it?”

Linda sighed. “Amber, there is nothing wrong with spending Max’s money. You are his wife and you have his permission to use it.”

“Linda, I would feel guilty all throughout my life if I don’t repay everything. I am grateful with what Max has given to me. I just don’t want to be a burden.”

“What am I ever going to do with you, Amber? Go on, no one is stopping you from enjoying what you love.” Linda smiled.

Amber spent the whole night creating a new recipe of her desserts. Linda and Diego loved her cookies and tasted everything she made. They gave her advices and some things to improve with the desserts.

Both of them have already retired to their rooms and Amber was left to clean up the mess she made. She insisted to clean them and Linda finally surrendered.

After cleaning she went to her room to shower then wore a black off-shoulder night gown. As she was going down the stairs she heard a weird noise.

Feeling a bit alarmed. The sound came from the entrance.

A tall man stood there with his back facing her. She moved close to him and her breath hitched upon seeing his cold blue eyes.

“Max?”

She whispered his name. He is back. Her husband is back.
