LOGINI hope everyone is enjoying the book so far. I would love to hear your thoughts. :)
~Phoenix~The food smells wonderful and tastes even better. It's been so long since I've had a real, prepared meal, and not just something raw in my wolf form, or caught wild and cooked over an open flame in the woods without salt or seasoning.Unfortunately, I have only taken a few bites before Jason leans over the table, his bright eyes, full of curiosity, shine at me. “So, what have you been up to for the past fourteen years? Keith said you might have been staying in that old cave. Was that just a place to get away from everything here and there? Or were you staying there… Like, really staying there?”I freeze with a sausage link near my mouth. I slowly lower my hand and place the link back on my plate. I stare down at my breakfast, my heart beginning to beat faster. I scan my plate, wondering how I can explain a decade of survival without a voice. It's been so long since I've spoken. I haven't had a reason or a desire to talk. Looking up, I shrug. I point at his mouth, then rol
~Phoenix~Something soft feathers across my cheek, a light touch that tickles my skin. My sleepy mind doesn't want to wake up. In a haze, I scrunch my face and blindly swat at whatever is tickling me. The tickling stops for just a moment, and I begin to drift off again. But just before I can, the light, feathery touch begins again, tickling the delicate skin beside my eye. My face scrunches tighter, and I swat at it. The tickling is persistent. I huff out a breath of frustration and swat at the air again, only to freeze when a quiet, raspy chuckle blooms in front of my face. My eyes snap open, and my breath catches in my throat.Keith's face hovers just inches from mine with a warm, amused smile resting on his lips.My eyes fly across his face, catching every sharp angle of his features within seconds. I suck a sharp breath in, and my hands fly up automatically, my trembling fingers pressing against his cheek and jaw, digging into his skin to make sure he's really here and my mind isn
~Derek~I wasn't the least bit surprised to feel Walker pushing on the link this morning when I was relaxing on the deck outside my room, enjoying a cup of coffee. I know he could have summoned me to his office for simple pack business, or to talk about the job we're currently working on, but I know Walker better. He's like the annoying big brother, always concerned, and wanting to help. And after my outburst on the deck last night, I know he's going to have questions. I know he's going to be concerned and want to try and fix whatever this is. I turn the handle and push the door open to his office before stepping inside. I close the door and come to a halt when I see I'm not the only one he wants to talk to. I roll my eyes and fight the urge to groan. The big annoying jerk is sitting there, taking up way too much space. As I scan the room, my jaw tightens when I only spot three chairs on the other side of Walker's desk. “Where is the other chair?” I ask, knowing damn well there sho
~Derek~I growl in frustration as I pace my room, the sound echoes off the walls. I don't like this suffocating feeling in my chest. I don't like the way it hurts.I saw the way Tristan looked at me before I stormed inside: his eyes begged me to stay. But the atmosphere was ruined the moment I lost control. I couldn't stay at the barbecue after going off on Fletcher like that. I was ashamed of myself and had to get away from this situation. Away from the pain and disappointment I caused.I stop pacing, staring blankly at the wall, my knuckles turning white as I clench my fist tight. I don't know why seeing the hurt flash across Fletcher's face bothers me so much. It shouldn't. That is what I wanted. Right?... If so, then why does it hurt so much? Why does my chest feel like it's being crushed? Why does my heart ache when my head screams at me to just stay angry? Why do his arms always feel so good? Why do I have a hard time breaking free from them each time they wrap around me? Why do
~Phoenix~I lift my face from his neck and look over his shoulder as he steps out into the Sun. I look at the entrance to my cave as he walks away from it, and it hits me that this is more than likely the last time I'll ever see it. I'm suddenly filled with a mixture of emotions. It is bittersweet. A part of me is sad because it's been my home for the past fourteen years. While it wasn't much, it was my home. It had given me shelter from the rain, snow and wind. It was mine, and far better than what I had at Jack's pack. But I was lonely there. I had spent over a decade starved of human contact, and missing the one thing I wanted more than anything in the world. And that very thing is the person whose chest is pressed against mine, the person I have my arms and legs wrapped tightly around. And knowing that he's taking me home with him has me happy and excited. I adjust my grip on the back of his neck and stare at the entrance, watching it fade in the distance until I can no longer s
~Keith~His face remains tucked against my neck, but his grip has loosened. He stopped crying a while ago, but he stays wrapped around me, clinging to my body, and I don't blame him; I'm clinging to him too. I can't let go. Whatever I tried to hide of him that hadn't already surfaced has broken free, and everything is there, here, and right now. I feel everything! Everything we built. Everything we had. Every magical little moment. Every adorable little memory that was him. Every wish for our future. Every bright smile he ever flashed my way. Every prayer I sent up to Celine while we were together, and after I left him; it's all there. Every little feeling is out there, raw and bleeding like an open wound. The bond courses through me, flowing in all its magical beauty. I feel every inch of it, and it has me in absolute fucking awe. I've read stories. I've watched Tristan and Walker. But I never knew it felt like this. I never knew it felt so… absolutely, fucking magical! It's
