Chapter 4 A Dramatic Scene

The man was none other than Xoan.

After work, a friend invited him there. Not long after he had settled into his seat, he spotted Yaslyn walking in with a man. A certain depth flickered in Xoan's gaze, and at that moment, his companion noticed where his eyes were directed. Following his gaze, he saw a woman.

She was clad in a black floral dress, her wavy hair casually strewn over the back of her neck. She had a cool, aloof demeanor that, under the lights, made her look both stunning and mysterious.

Jay Newton teasingly broke the silence and asked, "Well, well, well? Do you like her? She's quite beautiful, indeed. Want me to get her number for you? Wait, isn't that Wade next to her?"

Xoan frowned slightly, his tone laced with confusion. "Wade?"

Jay nodded. "Yes, Wade. The elusive vice president of the Lukesh Company."

What made the Lukesh Company so elusive? It was a well-established, publicly traded company with a strong footing, yet few knew who the chairman behind the scenes was. Over the years, it was always Wade who represented the company in public matters.

"However, Xoan, you are far superior to Wade. You could easily win over this beautiful lady."

"You talk too much," Xoan responded coolly.

He cast another glance at Yaslyn downstairs, his eyes filled with a hint of curiosity. She had just moved to Jefferson City, so how did she come to know Wade?

"Xoan," Jay continued earnestly, "It's such a shame for such a beautiful woman..."

Xoan remained silent, casually picked up the wine glass on the table, and took a sip. At that moment, Wade left the bar counter. Many eyes were on Yaslyn, and soon, a sleazy man approached her with a glass of wine in his hand.

"Hey, beautiful, how about we become friends and have a drink together?"

"I don't need any friends."

The sleazy man's face froze for a second before he replied with a laugh, "Let's be friends, and I'll take care of your bill for the day. How does that sound?"

"No, thank you."

Upon seeing Yaslyn's indifferent expression, the sleazy man, probably emboldened by alcohol, blurted out, "Don't play hard to get. You dressed provocatively to seduce rich men in a bar, didn't you? I've got plenty of money, so name your price."

Upstairs, Xoan was observing everything intently. An anxious Jay said, "Damn it, Xoan, go play the hero and rescue the damsel in distress!"

Frowning, Xoan rose from his seat and prepared to head downstairs to assist Yaslyn. His motive, however, was not a budding interest in her but a request from Stephen.

Just as the two men were about to take action, a dramatic scene unfolded downstairs. The sleazy man was about to lay his greasy hand on Yaslyn when suddenly a bottle smashed against his head.

The second floor was too far away to hear anything, but Xoan, who could read lips, deciphered her retort.

"I don't want your money. However, I might take your pathetic life."

She exuded a sense of swagger and arrogance.

Just then, Wade returned from the restroom. The sleazy man, recognizing Wade's identity, quickly apologized and left, fearful that Yaslyn would genuinely take his life.

The incident had soured Yaslyn's mood, and she saw no reason to stay any longer. After bidding Wade goodbye, she left the bar. She hailed a cab on her phone and casually sat by the roadside to wait.

Yaslyn lit a cigarette and looked up at the sky. 'Dad, are you doing alright up there?' she wondered silently.

At that moment, a black car pulled up in front of her.

Assuming her cab had arrived, Yaslyn extinguished her cigarette in a nearby trash bin and prepared to get in the car. To her surprise, she found a man dressed in a black suit sitting in the back seat. She had not ordered a carpool, had she?

"I'm sorry. I got into the wrong car. Why are you here?"

It was then that Yaslyn realized that the man in the car was Xoan. In his rich, mellow voice, he instructed, "Get in."

After a moment's hesitation, Yaslyn sat down next to him. For some reason, running into Xoan like that made her feel oddly guilty. Wait, why did she feel guilty?

"What a coincidence! I came here with a friend. Did you come to have fun as well?" she asked.

Xoan nodded in affirmation.

As Yaslyn turned to look out of the window, she wondered if Xoan had been at the bar the whole time. Had he seen her earlier, or was it just a chance encounter?
