Chapter Thirteen

“I'm fine,” I said, smiling lightly at Sydney. Mataman niya akong tinitigan. I almost slapped myself for believing that she wouldn't know a fake smile on me.

“Van,” she called me softly.

“Trust me, I'm fine.” I smiled again bigger this time.

“Van, I'm your best friend. Don't think that I'm one of those people that will believe the 'I'm fine' shit of yours,” she said sternly.

I shook my head, laughing lightly before climbing out of my bed. Pinasadahan ko ng mga daliri sa kabilang kamay ang buhok ko. Ang mga kabila ko namang kamay ay hawak ang cellphone ko.

Humarap ako sa balcony ng kuwarto at nilanghap ang amoy ng Ilang-Ilang sa labas. Eto lang siguro ang ikinatutuwa ko rito sa Buenavista, ang preskong hangin.

“Tell me,” Sydney demanded.

“Tell you what? There's nothing to say,” tanggi ko.
