My face glowing with enthusiasm mirrored back at me as I sat in front of my dressing table. My rosy cheeks were covered in blush and my lips were red with lipstick with my blue eyes filled with excitement. I blew out my tightly coiled black hair once more, trying to keep back the flapping butterflies inside. It would be great tonight. It had to be. My name is Selena Ravenwood, I'm the youngest and the favorite daughter of my father, Joshua Ravenwood, who is the Beta of Attic in Greek. When I turned 18 two years ago, I found out my mate was the Alpha king's eldest son, Caius Reynolds. He would be ascending the throne in the next full moon and I have been waiting for him to officially ask me to be his Luna. "Selene, you look so beautiful,," my mother smiled as she leaned against the doorway, her own bright brown eyes flashing with pride. "Thanks, Mom," I said, gathering up the clingy blue dress over my hips. "You think Caius will officially ask me today?” “He’ll be crazy not to.” My dad laughed. "He's very lucky to have you as his mate." Though Caius and I have been dating for two years, I still get paranoid, thinking he might not see me as Luna material. I love Caius and I knew very well that he felt the same way. But I just couldn’t shake off the nervousness in my heart since Caius' crowning announcement. No. I tried to not to listen to that little demeaning voice anymore and focus on the outcome of the evening. My driver drove me to the Movie Theater in Athena where we agreed to meet. He was supposed to pick me up but he said he had something to take care of and might be a little late. I knew this date was not our usual one because he told me it was a special night for us. I checked my watch and saw Caius was running but I didn't mind. He must have been delayed by work, especially with his crowning ceremony coming up, so I decided to wait a bit longer. But minute by minute, it was growing impossible to wait. ‘I think we got stood up.’ my wolf Aya said but i ignored her I pulled out my phone and texted him: "Hey, I'm here. Are you okay?" No response. I walked back and forth in front of the entrance, thinking something might have happened because I knew Caius would never stand me up and not even have the decency to call and inform me. No, something is wrong. I hailed down a cab and drove all the way to his penthouse. I punched in the password and let myself in. "Caius?" I called as I pushed the door open but silence greeted me. Aya began to feel restless, scratching to take over but I refused as I walked further into the house, going upstairs to Caius’s room. As I moved closer, a stench hit my nose buds, a strong metallic odor that had my stomach coiling; Blood. I froze in my steps as shivers ran through my entire body. Forcing myself to move, I ran to Caius' room and pushed the door open. My eyes widened at the horrifying scene in front of me. Caius was on the floor and his blond hair was drenched in his blood. He was still and his chest was not rising and falling to indicate that he was breathing. And beside him was his younger brother, Lucian, who was looking at me with wide eyes and his fist clamped tight around his blade. “No, no, no.” I shook my head and prayed that this was nothing but a terrible nightmare. "Selena," he whispered as he took a few steps closer to me. "No,” I put my hand out to stop him as I stepped back. “Don’t you dare take another step closer.” I should have seen this coming. I should have expected that Lucian would be jealous of Caius being the next Alpha king and try to stop him. I should have warned him. "Just hear me out.” He stretched his hand to touch me but I grabbed his hand which caught him off guard and knocked him down, using the self defense skills that my father taught me. I ran away from the scene and made my way downstairs with my heart pounding in my chest. "Selene, wait," His voice roared behind me with pain evident in it. I did not wait, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. He murdered Caius. He murdered my mate. I tripped over my legs at the bottom of the stairs and winced in pain as pain shot through my legs. I looked back with my teary eyes when I heard his footsteps approaching. Pushing through the pain, I stood up and walked towards the front door. The door was pushed open from outside and I stopped as a beautiful lady with golden blonde hair and deep green eyes walked with an evil smile on her face. "Hi, Selene," she said in an overly sweet voice. Too sweet. "What do you want?" I attempted to say in a quiet voice. But my wolf half growled at the perception of danger. "That is not important." she smiled. “All I need is for you to be gone,” she stepped closer and whispered in my ear, “Forever.” Before I could process what was happening, I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. Aya howled in pain and tried to take over but it was as if something was blocking her. The lady pulled out the blade from my stomach and stepped back from her. The lady’s eyes glowed red and I felt my body growing weaker and weaker, and Aya’s voice became very distant. With blood oozing out of my stomach, I fell to the ground as the pain intensified. “Selena,” Lucian’s voice roared as I began to lose consciousness. Lucian had won. He had succeeded in getting rid of Caius and I, and no one was ever going to find out.DARCY'S POVSelena sat propped against her pillows, a tray of breakfast balanced on her lap, pushing scrambled eggs around with her fork like they personally offended her.I sat in the chair beside her, close enough to help if she needed it, far enough to give her space. The doctor had just left after his morning rounds, and his words still echoed in my head."She's healing well. I'm discharging her in three days."I was happy for the good news except for what he'd said right after, pulling me into the hallway while Selena pretended not to notice."Miss Darcy, we need to discuss her pregnancy. We can't hide it forever. It's her body. She'll start showing signs soon, fatigue, nausea, physical changes. You need to break it to her without shocking her."I nodded, promised I'd figure something out, and walked back into the room with a smile I didn't feel. Now I watched my sister eat, her brow furrowed in concentration like each bite required effort. How was I supposed to tell her that she
LUCIAN'S POVThe mall was still quiet when we arrived the following morning. There were fewer shoppers and the energy from yesterday's chaos had faded, replaced by the sterile hum of fluorescent lights and distant elevator chimes.I didn't head to the escalator. That scene was already cleaned, already empty. What I needed were witnesses.Xavier and I split up, covering the stores closest to where Selena fell, asking if they had witnessed how Selena fell. I started with a small jewelry kiosk, then a shoe store, then a café.Most attendants shrugged and shook their heads, claiming they hadn't seen anything. But the fourth one, a young woman working at a cell phone repair booth, paused when I asked."You're the prince of Lunaroria, right? The one whose mate got hurt?""Yes." I kept my voice calm, though my heart hammered in my chest. "Did you see what happened?"She bit her lip, glancing around nervously. "I didn't see the fall itself. But I saw someone hanging around the top of the esca
LUCIAN'S POVI sat outside in the hallway when Darcy came out and said Selena was asleep due to the medication she took. I nodded without saying a word.“What are you going to do now?” she asked with her arms folded, and I knew she was asking about the incident. She believed it was Talia's doing, and i also believed the same. King Aldric won't admit it without any evidence he would surely try to cover up for her if there's evidence proving it was Talia's doing.“I have to go to the palace,” I stood up, and Xavier followed suit. “There are guards around the hospital to look after you and Selena. Make sure you call me immediately if anything happens.”She nodded, and I walked toward the exit with Xavier beside me.The drive back to the palace was quiet. Xavier stared out the window, and I gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles ached. Neither of us spoke. There was nothing left to say that wouldn't end in a fight. When we arrived, the palace was oddly quiet. I strode through the
LUCIAN’S POV The door to Selena’s room opened. The doctor stepped out, clipboard still in hand, and spotted me on the floor. He didn't comment. He just walked over, expression professional but not unkind.“Prince Lucian,” he said. “Your mate is stable. Physically, she's healing well. The baby's vitals are strong as well.”Relief flickered through the darkness. “But?”“But her memory loss is significant, as you heard. The temporal lobe trauma is still healing. I strongly advise that you do not give her any information that might cause her shock or distress.”I let out a bitter laugh. “So I just pretend to be a stranger?”“For now.” His tone was firm but gentle. “Let her body heal first. In the meantime, you can help by showing her things that she forgot, places that might bring back her memories.. Anything that might trigger a memory. But do not overwhelm her. Small steps.”He handed me a prescription slip. “These are for pain and anti-inflammatories. She'll need rest and minimal stre
LUCIAN’S POV “What?” I froze as Elira's voice rang in my head.‘The day I become Queen and wear the Caius mark is the day I will kill that special mate of yours.’‘I always keep my promise. Only when I officially become Queen will I touch her.’“I'm not sure why, but they moved the wedding forward
ELIRA'S POVI walked through the hallways of the palace, heading towards the west wing where the Monarch of Umbraeth was residing after attending our wedding. As per our signature sound, I knocked on the door three times at first, then two times again before knocking three times to end it.The doo
LUCIAN’S POV“Soldiers, there should be no mistakes tonight. You already know your position and what to do.” I started, standing in front of the three hundred soldiers I was able to gather with the help of Ezra, Damon and Beta Joshua.“Be careful not to kill anyone. Since there would be little sold
SELENA’S POV That evening, I lay on the bed, looking out the window to watch the sun setting. Lucian would be carrying out his plans when night falls. Once he fails, I would be free from the fake mate bond and everything would go back to how it was supposed to be. I should be happy about that, ri
