Maria's POV

I was calmer now, it had been a week since the sad occurrence that led to my banishment and I was slowly overcoming my fear of confronting the pain of betrayal. Everyone here has been so helpful and I couldn't help but admit that the only thing tough about them was just their looks. I knew it was a defense mechanism to save them from being preyed on, seeing that they were rogues in the first place.

Slowly, I had found my way in the small pack, navigating through the complex family tree of those ones that have found solace in being left out. They had obviously been staying here for a long time, they had found Roy, the five-year-old boy who was now my best friend only when he was a baby, probably a few months old. His mother had been killed and his father had wanted nothing to do with him before his birth.

We had first met the day I went out for the first time to see the place that I would now call home. I had refused to accept the help of anyone as I didn't want to have

Leo's POV Nothing had worked. Everything we had put in place to find the silver wolf had come to nothing. Sophia and I were drifting more apart daily. Even though it seemed as if I could not do without her, I didn't want her anywhere close to me anymore. "You haven't stepped out of your study in days. Is that how much you are avoiding talking to me or seeing me now?" Sophia asked me at the end of the third day when I hadn't stepped out of my study. "No, I just needed some time to clear my head. The guards returned a few days ago with bad news, everyone that knows how I can find the silver wolf is dead. I just have to wait for the wolf to accept their nature before I know" I said and drew a tired hand through my hair. "I understand that but still, you can't because of that start neglecting everything else," she said and I didn't understand what she was saying since I had been functioning well. "What do you mean? I have not neglected my duties to my people as the alpha" I said and

  • Veil Of Destiny   86: A Luna, A Foe

Elijah's POV It was my wedding day with Elizabeth, but there was a piercing pain in my chest that had refused to go away since Maria left. All efforts to get in touch with Elvira had not come to anything, so I was pretty much left on my own. Even though I carried a brave face around the palace and pretended that everything was fine, deep down, I knew that I was falling apart—fast and terribly. I picked up the customary ribbon that the bride-to-be of the alpha must have on during their wedding. Everything had been done in such a rush that I had not had the chance to give her this. I made my way to her chambers, swallowing more than a million times because I felt a sense of great loss. "End her...I don't care if you love her or not but she has to for good" I heard Elizabeth's angry whisper from her room. "But, that was not the agreement. You were supposed to get Elijah while I got my chance to be with Maria!" I heard Nathan's voice. My heart skipped a beat as I hoped that it was no

Maria's POV My legs couldn't move as fast as I wanted them to anymore. In fact, it felt like I had a dead weight on my shoulder that I was dragging along with me, every step of the way. My mind was in a mess but I just wanted to go as far away from here as possible. For the past two days, I have survived only on water from the streams, wild fruits, and wild animals I caught. Some of them had been raw because there was no way I could get fire. It was getting dark already and I could feel my skin crawl like it had whenever it was getting dark in the past few days. I tried to shut it all out, everything in my chest that screamed at me like I was carrying some sort of bad luck with me everywhere I went. The voice was loud but then, the insecurities around me were louder. My vision was beginning to blur, "Ouch!" I moaned in pain as I stubbed my toe on a stump. Blood gushed out and my skin immediately turned red. I didn't try to stop the blood, in fact, I wished that I would sleep and ne

Elijah's POV My heart didn't even flinch when I had her cast out. She didn't deserve any bit of kindness from me and I even regretted helping her in the first place. She was a liar and she was never worth it. It hurt me worse that Nathan had been the one she chose over me. It didn't go down well with me but I had not set my eyes on him since the whole incident happened. "You are a coward Elijah and I regret ever knowing you and supporting you. I'm leaving! I'm leaving this cursed place for good. You used to be so different, What happened to you? How did you become this person that is so unreachable to reason?" Elvira's sharp voice interrupted my thoughts. I had not even heard her come into my office. She had never snuck up on me before so I knew that she was definitely offended for her to do it this time. I couldn't hold her gaze, it carried so much pain and for a brief moment, I wondered if I had overreacted. She had lied to me, Maria had lied to me. I had every right to react the

  • Veil Of Destiny   83: The casting out

Maria's POV The nightmare was never-ending, my eyes had not closed for a wink throughout the night. Even though I had not been able to move, my mind was everywhere. I couldn't imagine what was going on and how I was going to explain it. Elijah had looked so hurt and broken, even though I didn't want to date him, I definitely didn't want to hurt him in such a way. Elvira broke the door down a few minutes after dawn. She was looking so distraught, almost like she had just heard the worst news ever. She ran straight to the bedroom first, since I still couldn't move, there was no way I could call her attention to where I lay close to the dining table. "Maria! Maria! Where are you?" She yelled as she ran across the house. I heard her tumble down the stairs and my heart wrenched in pain for her. I didn't know what to think, I had to do something. I closed my eyes and willed myself with everything in me to call out her name. "Elvira..." I managed to gasp. She didn't hear me at first, my
