Chapter 4

“The baby...?”

“The baby’s fine.”

Ember calmed down after hearing that.

The baby inside her womb was the only family that she had... The only family she had that was truly bound to her by blood.

Lugh had the scent of the sun on him. He smelled nice.

Ember held herself up and thanked him. “Thanks. But... Can you keep my pregnancy a secret?”

The pale face with a smile of gratitude somehow made Lugh feel upset.

He had known Ember for many years and knew that she could be as stubborn as a mule.

“Don’t worry,” Lugh smiled warmly, making him look like a gentleman. If he remembered correctly, Ember had married the heir of the Lane family.

“The baby is Caleb’s?”

“Yeah,” Ember nodded with mixed feelings.

Lugh frowned. “You haven’t told him?”

He had stayed in the gynecology department for a long time. He could tell what the future mothers were thinking about by just looking at their expressions.

“Ember, don’t you want to know why you’re bleeding?” Lugh asked worryingly.

“I know who did it.”

How could she not know?

The car that Caleb was driving... He had never loaned it to others. Other than Ember and himself, who else was close enough to Caleb that has been in that car?

And earlier, the fragrance used in that car had always been the same one that was handmade by a master perfumer from Gallia. But someone had deliberately changed the fragrance the moment she was going to be inside the car.

Ember could feel a chill down her spine. She could already guess who added the deer musk.

“Can you help me to the restroom?”

The two of them had just gotten into the restroom when they heard the sounds of boots marching on the floor. She looked through the door crack, and the man’s appearance was enough to make her quiver. She even saw the blade in his hand.

Lugh grabbed Ember’s wrist, telling her not to make a sound.

Ember nodded.

Then Lugh sent a message to his colleague. There was the sound of glass breaking outside. When the man heard the sound, he left by blending into the crowd.

After what had happened, Ember felt her knees weak and realized the amount of danger she was in. She looked at Lugh and said, “Help me.”

Eleven in the morning, outside the city hall.

A white Maybach was parked right next to the road. Caleb was in his seat, wearing sunglasses with a gloomy expression on his face.

“Caleb, will she go back on her word?”

Penelope whispered in worry as she sat in the passenger’s seat.

She greedily inhaled the scent in the car as she licked her lips. From today onward, she would be the victor.

Even if Ember didn’t lose her baby from the scent, she was lucky. However, the only ending would be the death of her and that baby!

That day, when Ember was saving Caleb, she was subconsciously protecting her stomach. This made Penelope investigate. When she found out that Ember was pregnant, she was absolutely furious.

If Ember gave birth to that child, there would be no place for her in the Lane family anymore!

“No. She’s usually quite punctual.”

Caleb and Ember had been married for three years. He knew her at least that much.

Buzz...

Caleb’s mobile buzzed. It was a message from his subordinate, Allen Wallace.

[Sir, the madam is at Haverhill Hospital.]

Caleb narrowed his eyes as he could hear his heart thumping.

[I’ll be there soon. Take good care of her for now.]
