Chapter 24

My thoughts trailed off and my mind was suddenly blank. I kept breathing slowly to get my heart rate down before opening my eyes. The air was cool but the sun was shining. It would have been a perfect day to roll around in the leaves and make some warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream and caramel. My stomach began to growl and I noticed I was starting to get hungry. We had a ways to go yet so I didn’t want to act on that urge until it was time. I knew that I was going to need something big to fill my stomach tonight. I shook my head and struggled to gather my thoughts before turning my attention from the sky.

“Let’s go now.” I said, I couldn’t waste anymore time. I had to get to David before they took it too far. I couldn’t let him die, especially not because of me.
