COURTNEY

I stood there, completely paralyzed, unable to move a single muscle. A strange, heavy cold spread through my veins, and I felt my blood stiffen as the horror of what Diego had done washed over me. The world around me spun violently, the lights in the hospital lobby blurring into jagged streaks of white. My knees buckled beneath me, and before I could hit the polished marble floor, darkness swallowed me whole.

The next thing I knew, the sharp scent of ammonia stung my nostrils. The nurses had crowded around me, frantically trying to revive me, patting my face and loosening the collar of my white coat.

When I finally regained consciousness, my eyes snapped open, and a ragged, broken sob tore straight from my chest. I started to cry uncontrollably for my son.

"Bryan... my baby..." I choked out, clutching at my chest as if I could physically hold my shattering heart together. "I already lost him once... I am not ready to lose him again. Not him... not my baby boy."

And it wasn't just Bryan. Now Diego wanted me back home too, holding my sick child hostage to force my hand.

The head nurse knelt beside me, her expression a mix of profound pity and deep concern. She gently wiped a tear from my cheek and whispered softly, "Doctor... maybe you should just go home to him."

The moment those words left her lips, my mind violently flashed backward across the years, dragging up every agonizing, humiliating memory I had tried so hard to bury.

I remembered those quiet, lonely nights in that sprawling, freezing mansion when Diego would come into my room only to use my body. I remembered the cold, flat tone of his voice when he would warn me not to moan to the intense pleasure I was getting from the lovemaking. “I don’t like the sound of that,” he would say. I was allowed to endure the physical act, to enjoy the sex, but I was never allowed to show it, never allowed to express the joy of being touched by him.

I remembered the times I had tried to lean up and kiss his lips, only for him to turn his head away coldly and tell me not to. I remembered how he would treat me during intimate moments—how he would take me, forcing his length down my throat like he was on a relentless mission to choke me with his long dick, completely indifferent to whether I could breathe or if my soul was breaking beneath him.

Too many cruel, loveless moments rushed back into my mind, flashing before my eyes like a torturous reel of film.

"No," I gasped, shaking my head violently, the tears flying from my lashes. "I am not going back to him! He can take Bryan—"

The words caught in my throat, choking me. A heavy, stunned silence fell over the small circle of nurses standing around me.

One of my closest nurses, a woman who had stood by my side and watched me build this hospital from the ground up, looked down at me with sharp, disbelieving eyes. Her face hardened, and she shook her head in sheer disgust.

"Only a stupid mother will abandon her sick son," my closest nurse said, her voice cutting through the air like a knife.

Her words hit me harder than any physical blow ever could have. I froze, staring up at her, the harsh truth of what I had just muttered echoing in my ears.

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   NO MORE KISSES

COURTNEY"Not in this life, Diego. I will never return to you!" I screamed into the receiver, my voice raw and cracking with pure venom. As I was about to stab my thumb against the screen to end the call, a sudden, frantic noise on the other end froze the breath in my lungs. It wasn't Diego’s voice anymore."Courtney? Oh, dear child, please..."A chorus of terrified, weeping voices broke through the speaker. My heart stopped. It was the nuns from the Monastery of Wolves—the sacred sanctuary where I had sought refuge and peace years ago."Mother General Kim?" I choked out, tears instantly blinding my eyes as I stared at the smoking ashes of the hospital in front of me. "Mother, what is happening? Where are you?""We are locked in the courtyard of the monastery," Mother General Kim sobbed, her fragile voice trembling violently. "Alpha Diego... he came with his entire army. He arrested all of us. He claimed we harbored you, that we taught you defiance and made you leave him. Oh, child...

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   THE KISS

COURTNEYThe soft hum of the vehicle’s engine was the only sound accompanying us as we drove away from the safehouse. Lucas had insisted on a detour, refusing to tell me where we were heading."With blindfolds on?" I asked, raising an eyebrow as he held up a dark silk cloth in the dim light of the back seat. "Lucas, what are you planning?""Trust me, Courtney," he said softly, a gentle, reassuring smile touching his lips. "Just keep your eyes closed for a few more minutes. Please?"I let out a soft sigh, nodding my head. I closed my eyes tightly, and I felt the smooth, cool fabric wrap around my head, plunging me into absolute darkness. I didn't resist. After everything we had been through—the betrayal, the prison cell, the pills, the near-death experience—trusting Lucas felt like the only safe harbor left in the world. For a long while, I sat in silence, feeling the rhythmic motion of the car as it turned corners and climbed a slight hill. Then, as the vehicle finally came to a smoot

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   SON OF A GUN

COURTNEYI blinked rapidly, trying to clear the heavy fog from my mind. The beeping of the heart monitor beside the bed sounded steady, clean, and entirely different from the oppressive, silent tension of Diego's mansion."Lucas...?" I whispered, my voice sounding weak and scratchy as my throat burned from the pill overdose. "Where am I? How did I get here?"Lucas leaned in closer, gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from my forehead. His amber eyes were filled with an intense mixture of relief and lingering terror."You're in a secure medical safehouse connected to the outer edge of my territory," Lucas answered softly, his thumb rubbing soothingly against the back of my hand. "You're safe now, Courtney. Just breathe."Memories of the past twenty-four hours came rushing back in a chaotic, agonizing wave—the police cell, Diego throwing my sick son onto the filthy concrete, my humiliating descent to my knees to beg for mercy, the broken glass in Diego's bedroom, and the handful o

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   BLEEDING

COURTNEYThe heavy iron gates of the grand estate parted, and the familiar, looming architecture of the mansion rose before us. Stepping out of the vehicle, I realized the house had not changed at all. Everything remained exactly the same as it was ten years ago, frozen in time like a monument to my past captivity.I hurried to carry Bryan inside, rushing him to a comfortable bed while pack doctors were immediately summoned to hook him back up to proper monitoring equipment and stabilized oxygen. Once my son was resting safely, I picked up my small duffel bag and turned toward the familiar hallway leading to the guest wing."Where do you think you're going?" Diego’s deep, commanding voice stopped me in my tracks.I froze, turning around to face him as he stood leaning against the doorframe of the master suite, his hands tucked casually into his pockets."I'm going to my room," I murmured quietly, avoiding his intense gaze."You are sharing a room with me," he said, leaving no room for

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   RETURNED

COURTNEYThe heavy metal door of the police cell slammed shut behind me with a chilling, metallic echo. I was taken away by the police, stripped of my white coat, my dignity, and my freedom, and thrown onto the cold concrete floor of a dark, damp holding cell.I uttered no words. I didn't scream, I didn't beg the guards, and I didn't shed a tear. My body felt numb, hollowed out by the sheer weight of the nightmare unfolding around me. But through the fog of exhaustion and defeat, one thing remained fiercely certain in my mind: I am not returning to Diego. I would rather rot in this concrete cage than crawl back to his bed."Prisoner in cell four! Your family is here to see you," a gruff police officer barked, rattling the iron bars with his baton.I sat up slowly, staring into the dark corner. "I have no family," I replied flatly, my voice hoarse.A few minutes later, heavy footsteps echoed down the concrete hallway. The officer unlocked the cell door and swung it open. Standing in th

  • WHEN THE LUNA WALKS AWAY   LOCKED UP

COURTNEYI don't want to go back to Diego. I couldn't. The mere thought of returning to that cold, loveless cage made my skin crawl and my chest tighten with suffocation. I ignored the nurse's sharp words, turned on my heel, and headed straight to my house. As I sat alone in the quiet darkness of my living room, my mind spun out of control. Maybe I should just leave everything behind, I thought, tears burning my eyes. Maybe I should go back to the Monastery of Wolves, take up my gray robes, and live the rest of my life offering sacrifices and prayers to the Goddess of the Moon instead of returning to Diego. At least there, my soul would be safe. At least there, I wouldn't have to choose between my dignity and my child.Exhausted, broken, and emotionally drained, I eventually collapsed onto my bed and fell into a deep, troubled sleep. In my dream, the world was pitch black. I saw my son, Bryan, lying on a cold, barren floor, sick, frail, and utterly helpless. His skin was pale, his bre
