Andres Pov.

The cemetery had been my favourite place as a kid, not because I was mentally deranged but because it held the memory of the two people I had cared about most in the world.

My mother and my crush.

I stopped in front of it, heading to the front, only to see it too late.

“Open it up,” I commanded the gateman, but he glared at me.

“Visiting hours are over, wait till next month,” He told me, and I shook the gate angrily.

“Open this damn gate or I'll..”

“Open the gate, Williams,” I heard a voice say, and I looked on only to see Billy, the head mortician.

I smiled immediately.

“You can't command me, Billy, this is going against our laws,” Williams snapped, and Billy rolled his eyes.

“Do you know who this young man is?” He asked, and Williams frowned.

“No, and I don't care to know,” he said, and the latter shook his head.

“He's the son of Lucas Beaumont.”

“The Lucas Beaumont?” Williams asked with wide eyes, and Billy nodded.

“Oh my God,” he mumbled, opening the gate quickly.

“I'm sorry, sir,” he said with a small bow as I got in, but I ignored him, going over and hugging Billy.

“Uncle Billy, it's been so long!” I said, and he chuckled, hugging me back.

“It has indeed been long since I saw your face, you've become more handsome,” he said with a smile, and I smiled also.

He had been in this cemetery since my mum died years ago.

Practically became my second dad.

“It's been a while; you haven't come in over 2 years now,” he said, and I sighed.

“Got so busy with work and other things, and I kept forgetting, even today, I forgot, it was my PA who reminded me.” I sighed, and he nodded.

“No wonder you came late,” he said, and I smiled.

“How are Aunt Jasmine and the kids?” I asked, and he sighed.

“Well, my wife is dead now,” he told me, and my eyes widened.

“What? How?”

“She died of cancer last year. We weren't able to afford treatment,” he told me with a sad smile.

“You could have reached out to me. I would have helped,” I half yelled, and he shrugged.

“I assumed you were going through your own problems also, so I couldn't,” he told me, and I groaned.

“And the kids?” I asked, and he smiled.

“They're staying with their cousins and aunt in Miami, they're doing fine, the eldest one is about to enter college, they even ask after you sometimes,” he told me, and I chuckled.

“I'm sorry about your wife's death, though, if there's any way I can be of help to you, just tell me, alright?” I told him, and he nodded sideways.

“I know you're going through your own problems also. I heard about the company, and I know it's facing a major backlash. Focus on fixing that first, after that, we can talk,” he told me with a smile, and I had to force a smile also.

“Well, let me allow you to get to it, you know the rules.”

“No phones because they can awaken the dead,” I said, trying to mimic his voice, and he chuckled, walking away.

I wandered round the cemetery before stopping in front of both graves, stationed closer to each other, credits, me.

I knelt down, rubbing my mother's headstone, and then her own.

It still feels like yesterday.

When they died, I felt pain after each of them passed away.

I let out a long, tired sigh, sitting beside it.

“I know you're staring at me from the other side, mother, and you should know that my life had been hell since you left me, I wish you could come back, but I know that is just as ridiculous as wishing upon a dead genie” I stood, cleaning the tears that cascaded down the corner of my eyelids as I continue.

“I know that my life wouldn't get any better, I know that, I would only be deceiving myself if I thought that one day, one day I'll survive through it all, it's all a lie, everything is a lie.” I couldn't stop myself from breaking out in tears.

It hurts, everything about these hurts, but I can't do anything about it.

“Everyone already knows the secret of me being dad's child, it's only a matter of time before they come for me, I wanna kill myself, mum, show me a sign, any sign that I shouldn't, and I would stop,” I said seriously, waiting for anything.

Rain, a storm cloud, thunder, anything to prove that she's still here, watching me, but nothing came, just as I thought, I was all alone.

“I thought as much,” I mumbled, standing up and dusting the debris of dirt on my body.

“Maybe I should come and meet you both, it's about time,” I said with a small smile.

I stood up with a few tears in my eyes. I checked the time and saw that it was getting late.  I stood up and was heading towards the gate when I met Uncle Billy conversing with Williams, and I instantly hugged him.

“Thank you for being a good uncle,” I said, trying so hard to stop the tears from flowing, though it clogged my eyes.

“Are you okay, son?” He asked as I broke the hug, and I nodded with a sniffle.

“I am just overly emotional, it's been a while since I saw them after all,” I sniffed again, trying so hard to stop the flowing tears.

“Oh, okay,” he said, but I could see the uncertainty in his eyes. Before he could press further, I ran out, entered my car, and turned its face to a lagoon.

As I drove, I got my phone, my eyes filled with tears and blurry as I made to text Gary.

‘I'm not sure I can take it anymore, Gary. The pains, the hatred, everything seems to be contributing to my mental health. I'm jumping into the floral lagoon. I hope you forgive me later for everything my existence has caused you. I know you're going to make a good CEO I love you and Dad.’

I pressed send instantly, closing my arms tightly against the steering wheel as I accelerated further. I could see the barricade over the hill, stopping anyone from going over.

It's made of wood, so it's easy to run through.

I closed my eyes, going at full speed, as I expected an impact, and it came, wildly. I felt the car in the air as I opened my eyes.

Immediately, I started having a rethink, maybe I shouldn't do it.

Or maybe I should have picked an easier death.

How is Dad going to feel?

Evans, Jefferson?

Why am I having a rethink now?

As it made heavy contact with the water body, I struggled to remove my seat belt, only to find it hooked.

Shit!

I tried to leave through the window, but it was no use as the car went deeper and deeper.

I could no longer hold my breath, I let the water in and felt my lungs pressing against each other as I gasped for air, but instead, water went in.

I could no longer struggle; I could no longer breathe.

So instead, I let myself go, my eyes closed up, and I felt my heart beat slow down.

Am I really going to die?

Rosa's POVI woke that morning, feeling very lazy, and it was a Monday morning. I was home alone. Quinn had travelled for three days for an I.T training. “Alright, let’s see what this chip has given us so far,” I said, scrolling through the files on my laptop. “It’s not flooded yet, but it’s steady. Gary is definitely hiding things. Big things for that matter. These transfers don’t make sense. And these late-night meetings? Something’s off.”I leaned back on the couch and sighed. “I should feel moved about this. We’re moving in the right direction. Why do I feel so… restless?”I picked up my phone and called Quinn.“Hey Q,” I said in a toddler tone.“Rosa! Finally. I’ve been waiting. How did the data look this past weekend?” she asked.“Pretty solid, actually. I’ve gone through everything the chip sent. It’s confirming what we suspected. Gary’s hiding a lot. There are encrypted folders he keeps opening, weird offshore movements, and meetings that aren’t on any official calendar. It’s

Andres's POV“Monday morning and I’m already on edge,” I muttered, gripping the steering wheel. “The medicine took forever to settle this weekend. It kept me staring at the ceiling for hours. And Billy’s words keep replaying… ‘Talk to her. You deserve something good.’ Talk to her? How? I’ve been turning that over for two days straight, and I’m still stuck.”I parked the car and headed inside the building. “Just breathe. Get through the day. One step at a time.”Jefferson was waiting near my office. “Morning, boss. You good? You look like the weekend kicked your ass.”“Morning, Jeff. Rough weekend, yeah. The medication settled more slowly than usual. What’s the latest on Meridian?” I asked, dropping into my chair.Jefferson sat across from me. “Update looks really clean and strong. Projections are up, client feedback is positive, and the risk section is tighter than last week. We’re in a good spot.”“That’s solid news. Walk me through the numbers again,” I said.“Revenue forecast is lo

Andres's POV“Shit… slow down, just slow down,” I breathed hard, sitting on the edge of the bed, gripping my knees so tight. “Why today? Come on… breathe with me. One… two… three… four. In… hold it… out slowly. I’m trying. I’m really trying here.”My arms kept shaking. I rocked forward a little, jaw locked. “Okay… okay, deeper breaths. One… two… three… four. You’re not falling apart. You’ve done this a hundred times. Just pass already, please. I need to get to work. Nobody can see me like this.”I exhaled shakily, flexing my fingers. “There… yeah, it’s easing up. Good. You’re alright, Andres. You’re fine. Get up. Put your shirt on. Tie straight. Look like the guy who just closed the Creston deal with his team. Nobody knows about your secret. They will never know.”“Morning, Jeff. Come in, close the door,” I said as Jefferson stepped inside.“Morning, boss. You got a minute?” he asked.“Always for you. Sit down. What’s going on?” I replied.Jefferson leaned forward. “Meridian proposal

Rosa's POV“Rosa, there you are. I’ve been looking for you,” Gary said, his voice smooth as he stepped closer to me near the elevator. “Everyone’s gone home already. Perfect timing.”I tilted my head slightly toward him, smiling softly. “Gary. You always seem to appear when things get quiet. What’s on your mind?”He chuckled, standing just close enough that I could smell his cologne. “You. All evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about how everyone was talking about how incredible you were. And at the celebration… that laugh of yours? Dangerous.”“Dangerous?” I asked, letting a light laugh escape as I looked up at him. “I was just celebrating the win with everyone. You seemed to be enjoying yourself, too.”“Oh, I was. But mostly I was enjoying watching you,” he replied, his tone dropping playfully. “You light up a room, Rosa. I meant what I said earlier. You and I should have dinner. Just us, you know ...Good food, better conversation. What do you say?”I pretended to think about it, bit

Andres's POV“Boss, we did it! Creston actually signed!” Jefferson called out, raising his glass high across the room.I stood at the edge with my barely touched drink, letting the warmth of the win settle in. “Yeah, we did. The team worked their asses off. Feels good, doesn’t it?”“Feels amazing!” Sarah from finance laughed. “Open bar tonight? My tab is on the company, right?”“Everything’s on the company tonight,” I replied, smiling slightly. “Drink up. We earned this.”The team was looser than they’d been in months. Laughter bounced off the walls. Someone turned the music up a notch. I let myself enjoy the moment, watching everyone relax for once. Then Gary walked in.“Parties already started without me?” Gary announced with that easy, perfect smile, sliding through the crowd like he owned the place. “Andres, my man! Congratulations on landing Creston. Hell of a win.”“Gary,” I said. “Didn’t know you were coming by.”“Couldn’t miss celebrating with the team. You know me.” Gary wink

Rosa's POV“Miss Morales, you remind me so much of my daughter. Same fire in the eyes, same way of cutting through the nonsense,” Mr. Creston said, shaking my hand firmly.I smiled warmly, squeezing his hand back. “Thank you, sir. That means a lot coming from you. I’m really glad we could find common ground today.”“You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Not many young people do these days. Keep that up, and you’ll go far,” he replied, nodding with approval.“I’ll do my best. Thank you again for trusting us with this,” I said softly. The moment the door closed behind him, I let the smile drop completely. I started gathering my files and notes when Andres’s voice came from across the table.“Good work.”I looked up and found him already staring at me. For a second, neither of us moved. The air felt thick, heavy with everything we weren’t saying. I held his gaze, my heart beating a little faster.“Thank you, sir,” I said quietly, breaking the moment. I looked back down at my papers.
