KAIDA’S POV
As the door slammed behind me, I rested my back against the wall, dragging it slowly until I squatted with my back against the wall and my hands wrapped around my legs. I knew how pathetic I looked while crying, but I couldn’t help it. It sure wasn’t easy to move on from someone you love so much, but seeing Liam smiling with his teammate as if nothing had happened made me realize I was the only one fooling myself. He had fallen out of love with me, but I kept forcing myself on him in our relationship. I felt guilty for trying to make a sinking relationship work. “Kai,” I heard a deep voice call my name, and I paused for a second, wanting to hear if the same voice would call my name again. Or maybe I was now hearing things. “Kai, you’re in there.” I heard once again, and I stood up, wiped my face, and pushed the door open. Only one person calls me Kai, and that is Maverick, Ember’s older brother. Once the door pushed open, his face was the first thing I saw. I hated how much his looks made my heart skip for a second. Sharp jawline, lush eyebrows, deep oceanic eyes. Jesus Christ… I shouldn’t be ogling at my best friend’s brother like that, yet I couldn’t stop myself. “Why are you here?” I asked, my voice low. “You should be in the arena. You have a game.” He ignored my words and stepped closer, causing my breath to hitch. As he stepped closer, his cologne wafted past my nose, and dare I say he smells divine. I’ve always been a lover of good scents, and I can tell a good one once I spot it. Maverick’s cologne is definitely a good one. “What are you doing?” I stuttered, blinking rapidly, but he didn’t reply. Instead, he leaned closer, our faces just inches away from each other. “You were crying,” he said. It wasn’t a question, just an observation. “No, I wasn’t crying,” I said, shaking my head negatively, refusing to admit. “You were,” he stated in a deep, low rumble, his face blank. “I don’t see how that concerns you, Maverick,” I said, folding my hands under my chest, trying to stay strong under his scrutinizing gaze. “You’re my sister’s best friend. Of course, I should care for you, just like I care for my sister,” he replied, his gaze not leaving mine. “Why now of all time?” I scoffed. “Last I remembered, we’ve known each other for five years, but you never cared, so why now?” “Because I just felt like it,” he shrugged, his hands in his hockey pants’ pockets. “Well, thanks for the concern. I don’t need it,” I rolled my eyes and made an attempt to walk away, but he was fast to grab my wrist. His touch sent tingles spreading all over my body, and I quickly dragged my wrist from his hold. “What is it again?” I asked, my voice higher than normal. I was a bit annoyed. “Liam broke up with you, didn’t he?” “Maverick, when did you start snooping around?” I asked, my brows arched and my voice filled with sarcasm. “I don’t do that,” he smirked. “The whole college knows about it. Not just me.” Shit! It had only been a day since Liam and I broke up, yet the whole college already found out about it. Seems bad news spreads faster than good news. “So, are you here to mock me?” “Why would I do that? I’ve got no time to mock you, Kai,” his voice became soft all of a sudden, making a pull of warmth fill my stomach. “My name is Kaida, not Kai,” I corrected, but that only made his lips stretch into a lopsided smile. “I’ll call you whatever I want.” “Suit yourself then,” I rolled my eyes and turned around, walking down the hallway. Halfway through, I heard Maverick called my name. “Kai,” I turned around with a frustrating sight. “What now?” “Wish me good luck against your ex-boyfriend.” “I don’t think you need a good luck, because I’m sure you’d win against him.” “Well, thanks for the assurance,” he smirked, turned around, and disappeared into the darkness, while I chuckled before heading back to the arena to watch the game. By the time I returned, the arena was filled to the brim, and if not for the fact that Ember had already kept a seat for me, I wouldn’t have found a place to sit. “What took you so long?” Ember asked, watching me with a soft gaze. “Did you cry?” “No, I’m fine now. You don’t have to worry.” “We can leave if you want,” she added, trying to make sure I was fine. “We don’t have to leave. I’m fine now.” The screaming of fans made us snap our heads towards the ice rink, where Maverick walked in confidently. The way he carried himself with confidence and pride made me smile. Soon enough, the game began. It started as an intense game between the two teams, but soon the Phoenix team began to win against Liam and his team. Surprisingly, it felt so good. I didn’t know why, but I loved how annoyed Liam was and how he kept screaming at his teammates on the ice rink. It was a 1-5 goal point. The Runners scored 1 goal, while the Phoenix scored 5 goals. Left with a point to crown the Phoenix team winner of the game, Maverick took it upon himself to score the point. He skated towards a Runner player and grabbed the puck using his hockey stick. He skated past Liam and his team and made sure they couldn’t take the puck from his hold. Maverick made sure to control the puck with precision, and his speed, agility, and stickhandling skills were top-notch. Just before Liam could get the puck from his hold, Maverick hit the puck into the goal net, and immediately, the arena erupted with screams from enthusiastic Phoenix fans, while Runners fans’ shoulders slumped in disappointment. A wide smile spread on my lips as I watched, while Ember rose to her feet, jumping and screaming Maverick’s name. Suddenly, he turned towards the arena, his eyes falling on mine, and for a second, my heart skipped a bit. Where he stood was far from where I sat, yet I heard every single word he mouthed at me. “That goal was for you, Kai.”KAIDA’S POVWho would have thought Liam would fall to the ground and pass out after his outrageous scream? He fell to the ground with a thud, his body limp and his eyes shut.Everyone paused afterwards, including Ember who kept thrashing around in Caleb’s arms.“What just happened?” Selena asked, her eyes widened as she reached out to touch Liam. She tapped his cheeks twice but there wasn’t any reaction from him, so she squatted and shook his limp body and still, there wasn’t any reaction.“He passed out,” she muttered, not believing her own words. “You!” She yelled, standing up with fury blaring in her eyes.“He passed out because of how hard you pulled his hair. He’s gone bald because of you!” She stomped her heels against the tiled floor.“He passed out because he deserves it. Even worse.” Ember replied as she walked towards where Liam passed out and placed the bunch of hair in her hands on his chest in a slow motion, like she didn’t want to get caught.“Girls!” Selena called, her
KAIDA’S POV I could pay millions just to watch the surprise look on Liam’s face, over and fucking over again. It was so hilarious that I almost burst out laughing.I haven’t felt this way before. Happy, satisfied, contented…. Wow, the feeling was amazing.“Bitch…” he drawled, his jaw clenched and his eyes red with anger. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on me?”I scoffed at his words, driving my fingers into my hair. “Filthy hands? Dude, If I was given another opportunity, I would love to break your bones with these filthy hands.” I replied, a wide, satisfied smile on my lips.I knew something was stopping Liam from hitting me and that was the wide entrance door in the cafeteria. We were literally standing at the front of the cafeteria, where everyone was watching, so he had no right to hit me.His image as the captain of the Runners team was important to him, and of course, he wouldn’t want to be benched, all because he hit a woman who happened to be his ex-girlfriend.“You!” He
KAIDA’S POV Maverick only wants me?That was another big fat lie. I mean, just because he kissed me like he meant it, didn’t mean anything. Maverick doesn’t want me and neither do I want him.I just said that to spite Pearl. She was getting ahead of herself and I needed to bring down her ego a little. That was why I said such.“What did you just say?” She took two steps backwards, her eyes widened like that of a saucepan and her manicured nails dug into her palms, almost drawing out blood. “Maverick only wants you?”Ember’s eyes widened also and snapped towards me almost immediately. “That was fast, my friend.” She teased with a small smile on her lips and the serious me almost laughed at her remark.I was damn serious. I needed to let Pearl know that Maverick was over her and she needed to get a hold of herself, but with Ember beside me, it was almost impossible to convey that message. She kept teasing me.“Yes. Get that into your head and get a hold of yourself.” I replied, my ha
MAVERICK’S POVI’ve kissed my share of girls, and when I said my share of girls, they weren’t much. I’m not a fuck boy like Caleb, our youngest member and I’m not a fan of kiss, so the number of times I kissed a girl, was one I could count. But, I swear to fuck, no girl has ever gotten me hard like Kaida did.I never thought she’d use me against her Ex-boyfriend, but after having a taste of her lips last night, I didn’t care.It wasn’t my intention to deepen the kiss when she thought to break it, but I didn’t know what came over me.Whatever came over me was certainly devilish, because fuck! It left me wanting more.It hasn’t been up to a day since I mentally scolded myself to stay far away from her as it wasn’t helping me in any way.If I get closer to her than I already was, I would be consumed by obsession. Feral obsession for her.One that’s dark and primal. But screw that! I don’t mind getting close to her. She has screwed with my head and now, there is no turning back.It took
KAIDA’S POVOmg! Ember is crazy! Really crazy! When she snapped her gaze up at me, I had thought she would scold me for kissing her brother in such a public space and giving everyone a live movie, directly from the movie set, but instead, she asked me a question which I wasn’t physically and mentally prepared for.How does her brother taste?I haven’t thought much about it, because it slipped my mind or rather still, I just wanted to forget about the kiss and move on like it wasn’t anything. But now that she reminded me, it was hard to forget the taste of his lips.Maverick tastes like whiskey and mint and dare I say I loved the kiss? When he rested his hands around my waist, I felt relaxed and when he drove his tongue into my mouth? It felt too good to be through. We had that chemistry that could make people mistake us for a loving couple, whereas in reality, we were enemies. Our hatred comes in an off and on mode.It has been on since five years ago, but these days, it was off. He w
KAIDA’S POV It was crazy. Hectic And confusing. I should have thought this through before diving in without caution. If I had known Maverick would turn out to be a wild predator, I wouldn't have thought about the kiss, let alone gone through with it. Yet, it was impossible to stop him as he deepened the kiss, giving my lips a small bite, just enough to make them part, but not enough to hurt me. My lips parted with a gasp, and he drove his tongue into my mouth. The warmth from his tongue was electrifying and sent shivers slashing down my spine. Jesus Christ... This man doesn't seem to get enough. He was so lost in the warmth of my mouth that he didn't even think about the public space we were in. Everything around us stopped. The music, the dancing students. All eyes were on us, watching like a movie on a movie set. Eyes widened, lips parted, jealousy brewed, and hatred tripled. The girls who were fans of the Phoenix team, especially Maverick's fans, were sure
