Genevieve's POV

Mate?!

He was my mate? The perfect male specimen standing right before me?

I shifted, the snapping and popping of bones filled the air and the pain dulled when I did. I would have to get the sliver out of the wound when I got back to the pack house. But for now, I needed to understand one thing.

How did I have a mate?

When I was born, it had been prophesied that I was a child of the moon goddess. I would not have a mate as my life would entirely belong to her. Of course, growing up I had refused that idea and married Alpha Jamie of the Wolfgang pack. I hadn't expected to have an actual mate.

And yet here he was.

I struggled to remain on my feet, holding his piercing gaze. His green eyes roved over my face, taking in the wound on the side of my head and he growled in anger, raising the wolf head in his hands and ripping it apart with his bare hands.

Fuck. Me!

I had never seen anything more hotter. His eyes were dark with rage and he panted heavily, tossing the head against the wall. He must be angry with the rogue for hurting me and even angrier with himself because he had killed the damned bastard too early.

I raised my hands and smiled at him. "Hey hey, calm down. I'm okay. See?"

He followed my movement and my face flamed when his eyes dropped to my breasts. I was stark naked and so was he and in my mind's eyes, I could see myself pinning him against a nearby tree and having my wicked way with him.

I'd start from his jutting cock. It had been so hard to ignore it, so hard to stop myself from staring at it. All I could think of, all I wanted to do, was tie him up against that tree and lick the hell out of that yummy lolli.

The musky scent of wood pines filled my nose and I sighed in desire. He was aroused. Oh, he was very aroused. I could his hands trembling as he clamped them tight into fists beside him. His eyes were fixed on my breasts, on my nipples to be exact. I could feel their warmth stroking my skin, teasing me.

Mate!

Fuck! This was cruelty at its best. I was married! Jamie may not be my mate, but we had been married for five years! I wasn't a young pup looking for solace. I was a grown twenty-five-year-old woman! Why the hell was my mate showing up now?! And why the fuck was he so gorgeous?!

He parted his lips to speak and I held my breath in anticipation, waiting, yearning, needing to hear his voice. But he was cut short by a frantic roar.

A roar I knew so well.

Jamie bounded through the trees, his huge grey wolf stomping towards us. The spell was broken as he jumped between me and my newfound mate, baring his teeth at him.

He saved me, and I mind-linked him quickly. He saved me, Jamie.

He turned around as if to confirm what he'd just heard and withdrew his fangs when I nodded. Jamie transformed then and patted my hair.

I heard my mate growl in anger and watched him step back, looking away from us.

That meant he knew who we were. He knew Jamie was my husband. Was he a pack member? Wolfang was rather huge, so it was quite hard to keep track of everyone in the pack. Besides, Jamie had the nasty habit of accepting just about anyone into the pack, and that made it even harder to keep up. He kept saying things about increasing the pack size and shit.

"Thank you," Jamie said to the male who had saved me. "If you hadn't been around, I would have lost my Luna. Thank you!"

My mate merely grunted in response and bowed before shifting and racing through the forest.

"You know him?" I asked Jamie when he was gone.

"Yeah, one of the guards," My husband replied blandly, turning to face me. He was quite dashing. He had cropped blonde hair and blue eyes, the shade of the midnight sky. He was about my height and exuded a certain calmness around him that made others feel relaxed. "Can't remember his name. But I remember that look of anger on his face. He's always angry."

Probably because you've been prancing around with his mate, I wanted to tell him but clamped my jaw shut.

If the stranger had been in the pack all along, why was I realizing he was my mate now? Why had he never approached me?

Because he would like to keep his head, my mind quipped and I pursed my lips in anger. Still, I deserved to know. I deserved to know he existed. He was made for me. Made to give me pleasure.

I couldn't get my mind off him. Not after all of that.

Jamie had given me a ride home on his wolf after I had begged and begged for it. Cara made me a warm bath and the pack doctor got the silver out of my wounds allowing them to heal up.

Yet through it all, only one thought consumed me. Who was he? Why did I have a mate? Had the moon goddess decided to punish me for flaunting her rules and getting married or had the prophecy been a total load of bull shit?!

When night came, I couldn't sleep. His scent filled the air around me, teasing my skin in tiny whispers. My nipples begged to be touched. My breasts yearned to be kissed. My body ached to be held.

By him.

Just him.

Jamie hadn't invited me to his quarters so that meant I couldn't go see relief from him. Oh, who was I kidding? Jamie could not satisfy me. He never did.

But that stranger? I licked my lips as I stared at my figure through the mirror. My white hair was tied up in a loose bun. A silk night dress draped against my thick figure and brown eyes stared back at me. I imagined those strong hands, the ones he had used to rip the wolf's head apart, gripping my breasts, fondling them as our mouths met and moved against each other.

A low moan slipped from my throat and I threw my head back in desire.

I wanted a taste of him. No matter how small. Even if it would be all I had of him before we rejected each other.

I had to find that stranger. I had to find my mate.
