Chapter 5- Didi

I arrive at my office just in time to find Kace already pacing the floor nervously, his gaze instantly lighting up as he takes in my arrival. I could feel his excitement, almost taste it.

"Tell me everything, Kai," He demanded immediately, his pale blue eyes dancing with curiosity and anxiety. The old oak door slams shut behind me with a resounding bang, emphasizing his sudden demand.

Taking a seat at my office desk, I grinned widely, chuckling at the anticipation on Kace's face. "Easy there, brother. You'll meet her soon," I replied, attempting to cool his flaming excitement, although a part of me shared the same elation he exuded.

"But... But what's she like?" He pressed, coming closer and settling in the seat in front of my desk.

"She's amazing," I breathed, the thought of Didi causing my heart to quicken in a way only she had been able to accomplish in such a short period.

"She's sweet and vibrant," I added, describing the taste of her smile. "The captivating scent that seemed to cling to her skin. Her fiery personality that drew us to her in the first place. Her smile can brighten even the darkest day. Her skin is beautiful; a chocolate shade that's simply breathtaking.

And her scent..." I inhaled deeply as if I could still smell it, feeling my wolf stirring in contentment. "It's addicting, wild berries with a hint of exotic spices."

The air seemed to shimmer with anticipation as I shared what little I knew about Didi, trying my best to paint an image of her that could justify the woman who held our attention in such a profound way.

Kaycen had stopped pacing, his pale blue eyes round with a curious twinkle. His grip tightened on the armrest as he leaned forward.

"She's special, isn't she?" His voice held an unfamiliar hopefulness. Anxious, yes, but hopeful again after so many years of believing we'd never find our mate.

"She is," I affirmed, leaning back in my seat. The smile on my face growing as my brother started imagining what it would be like to finally meet Didi.

But for now, it was my duty to assuage his fears, to give him the hope that we had finally found her, our other half. Our Didi.

"She’s enchanting, Kace. I was mesmerized, could not take my eyes off her for a moment." I glance at my watch, lost in her thoughts again. It has been merely 10 minutes, and I'm longing to see her. "There is this intense craving to just be with her." I admit.

A sympathetic look washes over Kaycen’s face. He knows how this feels; our link as twins and future Alphas is extraordinarily strong, tying us together in inexplicable ways.

"How…How does she feel about us?" He asks timidly. His usual cockiness fading as the topic becomes serious.

I pause, not sure how to break the news that I didn't exactly let her in on the mate part.

"Well, she... She doesn't exactly know yet."

He chokes, "What?!"

"I didn't tell her. There wasn't time and...I want her to know us, first, Kace." I attempt to explain.

"But what if someone else…," he stutters out.

"No one else, Kaycen." I cut him off, "She’s ours, no one else's. Remember? She’s fated to be with us."

"But Kai…"

"Trust me, Kaycen. We will let her know. She needs to know us, see the love we have for her before we drop this bombshell."

His look softens, nods his head. We sit in silence for a while. This time a comfortable one. Anxious, hopeful, the air charged with excitement.

"I can’t wait to meet her, Kai." Kaycen murmurs softly, lost in a dreamy reverie.

"You will, Kace, you will," I assure him, patting his back reassuringly. His fear melting away with the rise of curiosity, "And trust me, brother, you are going to fall head over heels."

"I bet I am, Kai. I bet I am." His voice full of hope and I knew, from that moment, Didi wasn't just going to be a mate to us, she was going to be our world.

"So... you're saying, I'd have to... I don't know, like date both of them?" I sputter, eyes wide and apprehensive. How is that even possible?

Janelle shrugs nonchalantly. "Well, communication is key in any relationship, isn't it? I guess in your case, you'd need to do double."

A pang of nervousness jolts me, along with an undercurrent of...excitement? Could I even handle this?

"But, how would they be okay with sharing? Isn't jealousy a factor?" I try to stifle my curiosity. Why am I even considering this?

"It could be," Janelle admits, tucking a stray hair behind her ear, "but, in successful polyamorous relationships, people make peace with it, often it’s because they're mature enough to understand and address their jealousy in healthy ways. Also, it seems Kaivan and his twin are in this together, aren't they? So, maybe they've discussed it."

Maybe. A pang of surprise shudders through me. Janelle seems surprisingly well-informed.

I play with the fringe of my sweater, not knowing what to think, or feel. One man in a relationship was hard enough, and two...

But, a tiny rebellious voice inside me questions, 'What's the harm in trying?'

Annoyed, I shut that voice down.

"But I don't want two guys! I like Kaivan." The confession slips out before I could stop it.

A thoughtful silence settles between us. The noise of the outside world continues on around us but we are both caught in our own bubble of pondering.

"Well," Janelle sighs, "that changes things."

"Do you think I should talk to Kaivan?"

Her green eyes met mine. "Yes," she nods slowly, "You definitely should."

"Just the woman I was looking for!" A deep voice cuts through our intense conversation. I recognize the voice. It belongs to Dante.

"Oh? I wasn't hiding, babe," Janelle says, shifting her eyes to look at Dante who now stands in the entrance of the room.

"Well, that makes it easier," Chris says, and before Janelle has the chance to respond, he leans down and kisses her passionately.

My eyes almost roll to the back of my head at the sight, while a mild nauseous feeling takes hold of my stomach. Gross. They're at it again. They couldn't find a room to do this in?

"Disgusting," I mumble, standing from the couch.

Janelle pulls away and glares at me, but there's an amused glint in her eyes. Dante, on the other hand, only gives me a casual shrug and a smug grin before pulling Janelle in for another kiss.

"You guys are nauseating." I huff out.

"Babe, are you bothered?" Dante looks over at me from where he stands, his arm now snaked around Janelle's waist, his eyes teasing.

"Yeah, babe, are you bothered?" Janelle mocks Dante's words with a wicked grin of her own.

The corner of my lip twitches, a small involuntary smirk appearing on my face. I swear, you two will be the death of me. With that said, I collect my belongings and walk towards the exit.

"Alright, sourpuss. No need to be so dramatic," he calls after me as I stomp away, trying to block out their snickering and whispers.

Back in my room, I try to let my mind clear from their public display of affection. A single word keeps bouncing back to my head - polyamory. One woman with more than one man, possibly even seven. The world really is an odd place.
