“You’re fired, Blair Valen.”
Blair stared at her boss in complete confusion. She had barely stepped into his office when those words were thrown at her, and for several seconds, she simply stood there wondering if she had heard him correctly. “I’m sorry, sir. What did you say?” “I said you’re fired.” His voice was firm as he leaned back in his chair, his expression revealing no trace of sympathy. “You are to leave this company immediately.” “But why?” Blair asked, her brows drawing together. “Did I do something wrong? If there’s a problem with my work, you can tell me and I’ll fix it. I’ve never neglected my responsibilities here.” Her boss let out a frustrated sigh. “Blair, this has nothing to do with your work.” “Then what is it about?” He hesitated for a moment before looking directly at her. “Your husband.” Blair’s heart skipped. “My husband?” “Alpha Adrian called me this morning. He made it very clear that he no longer wants you working here.” Blair shook her head in disbelief. “Adrian asked you to fire me?” “Yes.” “But why would he do that?” “That is something you need to ask him yourself. I’m not interested in getting involved in whatever is happening between the two of you.” Her boss’s expression hardened as he gestured toward the door. “Now, please leave.” Blair felt her eyes sting with tears. None of this made sense. Adrian Blackwood was her husband, her Alpha, and the man she had believed would always stand beside her. He was also the one who had helped her get this job after she became his Luna because she had never wanted to remain inside the pack house all day, doing nothing except carrying the title of Luna and slowly becoming dependent on her husband for everything. She had wanted something of her own. She wanted to work, interact with people outside the pack hierarchy, earn her own money, and live as normally as she could. Adrian had supported her decision in the beginning and had even helped her secure the position, which was why his sudden demand that she be fired was impossible for her to understand. “But, sir, please—” Blair pleaded, her voice weakening as she stared at him. “I said leave, Blair.” She swallowed the lump in her throat, realizing there was nothing else she could say. With her shoulders slumped, she turned around and walked out of the office, forcing herself not to cry until the door closed behind her. The moment she stepped into the hallway, she pulled out her phone and called Adrian. The call rang several times without an answer, and when she tried again, she received the same result. Blair stared at his name on the screen, her thumb hovering over the call button as confusion settled heavily in her chest. “Please pick up,” she whispered. Adrian had never ignored her calls before. Even when he was busy handling pack affairs, he would usually send her a message or return the call once he was free. She tried calling him a third time, but there was still no response. As Blair stood there wondering what she should do, she noticed Selene, her boss’s secretary and one of the few people at the company she considered a friend, walking toward the office. Selene stopped when she saw Blair’s tear-filled eyes. “Blair, what happened?” Blair immediately walked toward her. “Selene, do you know why he fired me?” she asked, her voice trembling. She still refused to believe that Adrian had ordered her dismissal. There had to be another explanation, and she was beginning to suspect that her boss had simply used her husband as an excuse because he didn’t want to tell her the real reason. Selene’s expression changed, and she glanced briefly toward the boss’s office before looking back at Blair. “Blair, I think you should go home and speak to your husband.” “I’ve been calling him, but he isn’t answering.” Blair’s voice cracked as she tightened her grip around her phone. “The boss said Adrian ordered him to fire me, but I don’t believe it. Adrian wouldn’t do something like that without talking to me first. There has to be another reason.” Selene hesitated before sighing softly. “Blair, I wouldn’t tell you this if I wasn’t certain, but Alpha Adrian didn’t just ask your boss to fire you. He threatened him. He told him that if he refused, he would make sure this company regretted standing against him.” Blair’s eyes widened as she stared at her friend. “No. That’s not true.” “I’m sorry.” “Adrian loves me. He wouldn’t do that.” Blair shook her head, desperately trying to convince herself as much as she was trying to convince Selene. “Maybe someone used his name, or maybe there’s something happening in the pack that I don’t know about, or maybe there’s a rogue attack. But Adrian wouldn’t just—” “Blair,” Selene interrupted gently, “I understand that you don’t want to believe it, but I’m telling you what I know. Please, just go home and talk to him.” Blair’s hands trembled as she lowered her phone. She wanted to believe her husband more than she wanted to believe anyone else, but a strange uneasiness had already begun spreading through her chest. She returned to her office, gathered her belongings, and left the company. She had barely reached her car when her phone began ringing. It was Daniella, Adrian’s lawyer. Blair immediately answered. “Daniella?” There was a brief silence on the other end before Daniella finally spoke. “Blair, I’m sorry to be the one telling you this.” Blair’s stomach tightened. “Telling me what?” “Your husband has filed for divorce and formally requested the rejection of your mate bond.” The words struck her harder than she expected. “What?” The phone slipped from Blair’s fingers and fell to the ground. For several seconds, she simply stared at it, unable to process what she had just heard. Divorce? Adrian had filed for divorce? She bent down and picked up the phone with trembling hands. “Daniella, are you sure?” “I wouldn’t call you if I wasn’t. The papers have already been filed. I’m looking at a copy of them as we speak.” Blair’s breathing became unsteady. She suddenly remembered that morning, when Adrian had held her close before leaving the house. He had kissed her forehead and told her he loved her. She had watched him walk away believing that, no matter what happened in the world outside their home, their marriage was the one place where she would always be safe. How could that same man have filed for divorce only hours later? “Why?” she whispered, tears filling her eyes. “Why would he do this to me?” “I honestly don’t know, Blair. You need to speak to him.” The call ended shortly afterward, but Blair remained inside her car, crying uncontrollably. She couldn’t lose her job, her marriage, and her position as Luna of Nightveil Pack on the same day. It was too much for her to process. She had spent years trying to be a good wife to Adrian and a good Luna to their pack, standing beside him through everything and believing that he loved her as deeply as she loved him. Her hands trembled as she called him again. This time, his phone was switched off. She tried once more, but the result was the same. Desperate for someone to talk to, Blair called her younger sister, Sienna. The phone rang repeatedly without an answer, and Blair wiped her cheeks before trying again, but Sienna still didn’t pick up. “I just need someone right now,” Blair whispered to herself as another tear rolled down her cheek. Sienna was her sister, the person she had always believed she could turn to whenever the rest of the world became too much. Since she wasn’t answering her phone, Blair decided to drive to her house. She needed someone she trusted, someone who would listen to her without judging her, and right now, Sienna was the only person she could think of. Blair’s car came to a stop in front of Sienna’s house. She quickly wiped her face, stepped out, and walked toward the front door. It was unlocked, just as it usually was. “Sienna?” she called as she entered. There was no response. Blair closed the door behind her and looked around the quiet house. “Sienna, are you home?” Silence greeted her. She walked farther inside and called her sister’s name again, but there was still no response. Assuming Sienna was upstairs, Blair climbed the staircase, her mind still consumed by everything that had happened that day. She was almost at the bedroom when she heard a man’s voice coming from inside. “Oh, fuck. You are so sweet, Sienna. Nothing like your fat sister who can’t even move her waist in bed.” Blair stopped. Her entire body went rigid. She knew that voice. It was Adrian. Her husband Blair’s brows furrowed as she moved closer to the door, her heart beginning to pound so violently that she could hear it in her ears. Then she heard Sienna’s voice, soft and breathless, and something about the intimacy between them sent a cold wave through her body. “Adrian, I love you,” Sienna murmured. Blair’s fingers slowly wrapped around the door handle. She stood there for a moment, refusing to believe what her ears were telling her. Maybe she had misunderstood. Maybe there was another explanation. There had to be. With trembling fingers, she pushed the door open. The sight before her made the entire world seem to stop. Adrian was in the bedroom with Sienna. Her husband. Her own sister. Together, fucking each other!Meanwhile, inside the Nightveil Pack mansion, Adrian paced restlessly across the sitting room, his footsteps echoing against the tiled floor. He had been doing it for several minutes, running a hand through his hair each time he reached the other side of the room. He had told himself that he had made the right decision. Blair was no longer his mate, no longer his wife, and no longer his Luna. He had chosen Sienna, and with Sienna carrying his child, the future of his pack should have been clear.Yet something about the way Blair had walked away from him refused to leave his mind.Margaret sat comfortably on the sofa, watching her son pace with growing irritation. Eventually, she folded her arms and said, “You need to stop pacing. Blair is gone, Adrian. There is nothing you can do about it now.”Adrian stopped and turned toward her. “You shouldn’t have thrown her out.”Margaret raised an eyebrow. “You divorced her.”“I divorced her. I never told you to throw her onto the streets.”“Sh
Blair got into her car and closed the door behind her before resting her forehead against the steering wheel. The moment she was alone, the tears she had been fighting back came rushing out. Her shoulders shook as she cried, struggling to understand how everything she had believed about her marriage and her family could have been shattered in a matter of hours. Adrian had been her husband, her mate, and the man she had trusted with every part of her heart. Sienna had been her younger sister and one of the people she considered her closest friend. She had never imagined that the two of them could betray her in the most painful way possible. She had walked into Sienna’s house looking for comfort, only to find her husband in her sister’s arms. Then, as though that betrayal wasn’t enough, Adrian had rejected her without hesitation and chosen Sienna to take her place as Luna of Nightveil Pack. Blair pressed a trembling hand against her chest as another wave of pain moved throug
Blair stood frozen in the doorway, unable to move or speak. She could barely breathe as she stared at the two people she had trusted more than anyone in the world. Adrian was the first to notice her presence. His wolf caught her scent almost immediately, and when he turned toward the doorway, the color drained from his face. “Blair…” She couldn’t answer. Tears immediately filled her eyes as she stared at them. Her gaze moved from Adrian to Sienna and back again, as though looking between them enough times might somehow change what she was seeing. “What is this?” she finally asked, her voice trembling. “What’s going on here?” Neither of them answered. Blair gave a bitter laugh, although there was no humor in it. “I asked you what is going on.” Adrian quickly stood and pulled on his shirt before taking a step toward her. Blair immediately moved backward, her body instinctively rejecting his attempt to come closer. “Don’t come near me.” “Blair, let me explain.” “Exp
