Where Are You, My Mate?

I was dead.

My wolf floated in the air, looking at my body lying in a pool of blood.

In the bedroom, the rogue wolf was still ransacking the safe for valuable items.

There was a thud, a gust of wind blew into the den, then the rogue wolf left.

The large, spacious flat was all messy. It was the mark of my struggle with the rogue wolf before I died.

I looked at my body vacantly, wondering when someone would finally find my death.

Karl and I had a fight, and he hadn't been back for days.

He shouted angrily to me, "Julie, I won't come back if you won't accept Danielle to work for me. Mindlink me when you figure it out."

It was dark again, but no one mindlinked me, and no one came back either.

My wolf's spirit tried floating out, and it worked. It floated to pack headquarters.

The light in Karl's office was still on. There was a sudden knock on the door.

A young she-wolf, walked in, it was Danielle, "Karl, aren't you off work yet?"

It was already eight o'clock, and Danielle hadn't left yet either.

Moreover, the makeup on her face was still exquisite.

Karl raised his head but frowned lightly, "I still have to work for a while. Pls return to your den early. Our pack won't fall, so you don't need to work so hard."

His words were tinged with a slight reproach, but it could be interpreted more as a concern.

Danielle gave a sweet and understanding smile, and walked to his desk again, organizing the files that were laid out in disarray. "Let me organize it for you."

Karl didn't say anything but agreed. My heart, however, tensed for a moment.

He didn't really like anyone touching his stuff, but she was Danielle, Karl's first love.

They all said the only reason I ever had a shot was because Danielle decided to chase 'emotional mastery' across other packs and left Karl behind.

Just as Danielle reached the door, she suddenly looked back with worries.

"Is there anything else?" Karl asked.

"With the recent rogue wolf burglary and murder, there's been a lot of fuss. Karl, could you pls give me a ride to my den?"

Danielle finished, begging for Karl's reply patiently.

I looked at Karl. Karl didn't hesitate and got up. "Yeah, I'll drive you to your den."

The moment he got up, my heart emptied a great deal.

Many years had passed, and in Karl's heart, there was still Danielle. No, not still, just her.

Even mated with me, I became Karl's legal mate, he had been cold to me, let alone being such thoughtful and sweet.

Holding the bond ceremony with me was more like a bet with Danielle.

On the way, Danielle sat in the passenger seat and asked many questions and Karl answered them all patiently.

After a few moments of silence in the car, Danielle looked at Karl affectionately again and tried to find something.

"Karl, I heard you haven't been to the den but have been staying at the office for a couple of days. Pls don't leave Luna Julie home alone." She scrutinized the expression on Karl.

I felt Karl's wolf was annoyed: restlessness seized his wolf, which gave off a plaintive whine.

Was he thinking of me? Did the mention of my name annoy him? He'd never given me a good look during our mateship.

Danielle lowered her head, looking deeply concerned and apologetic. Her wolf, however, wore a triumphant smile and she was so delighted.

The car arrived at Danielle's place. Danielle did turn around, "Karl, go up and have some howling jerkies. That's your favourite and I made them myself."

Karl's cell phone suddenly rang, and it was from his Gamma Steven.

He answered it and frowned, "I have to get back to the office. Good night."

After Danielle went upstairs, Karl drove back to the office.
