The settlement sits directly beside a rocky blue-green sea. Large grey rocks form much of the shoreline beneath the village and docks. The water is relatively calm but contains visible waves and ripples. Sunlight reflects across the surface, producing scattered highlights. “Just stay close to me once we land,” Luz added, his voice regaining its edge of command. “The ruins will not be empty, and I do not trust anyone on this ship more than I trust you.”

In the dim lantern light, the black veins crawling up Luz’s throat seemed to pulse in time with the ship’s movement. The darkness was restless tonight. It felt like needles under Luz’s skin, a constant, low-grade fever that never truly broke. He looked toward the door, then toward Estrela’s cot across the room. ‘If Mestre Escuro saw us like this…’ The thought was a cold blade in his mind. He could not let anyone see him soft. The cabin fell into a heavy silence, broken only by the creaking timber and the distant wash of waves. Luz’s gaze drifted from the sleeping Amelia to Estrela, who lay motionless on the opposite cot. The lantern light caught the sharp lines of her face, casting her in pale, ghostly shadows.Luz knew that look. It was the look of someone counting the sins they carried, weighing them against the lives they had lost. “You are thinking about the fountain,” he said quietly. It was not a question. His

Mar looked down toward the cabin hatch, wondering if Amelia or Luz were listening. “Emile,” he said, his voice dropping to a low, urgent tone. “The hole. The red flowers. Do you know where they are? Do you know where they are going?” the ship groaned as it hit a patch of rough water. “No but Escuridade will find it. That is her journey,” Emile said calmly. “The… the knight below, uh… Luz, he will go to the mansion of nightmares to see the kind of shadows.” Emile bit her lip as she added. “Our path is different.” The deck went deathly silent. The wind seemed to die down, leaving only the rhythmic slap of waves against the hull. Mar felt a cold sweat break across his brow.“The mansion of nightmares,” Mar whispered, the words feeling heavy and wrong on his tongue. “The kid of shadows.” He looked down at his daughter, seeing her not as a sick girl, but as something far more dangerou

“Amelia saw it,” Luz said looking toward the hold where amelia disappeared. “Somehow in her nativity, she saw that Escuro was after something bigger. She saw the rot below the golden armour of the Santo Order.” “Amelia has a way of seeing things most miss, huh?” Mar noted with slight amusement, his voice softening just a fraction. “She looks at the world like it is a puzzle she can solve. Most see pieces; she sees the picture clearly.” He glanced toward the hold on last time before turning his attention back to the sea. “The Santo Order is a rot that has been festering for centuries. If Escuro is pulling the thread that unravels them, then maybe he is the only thing standing between us and total darkness.”“That is what Estrela said,” Luz mused, as if the discussion on the island was finally registering. “She said, Escuro was keeping the tyranny of the dead king at bay. No one is who they appear to

Amelia and Estrela descended the narrow wooden stairs from the Sea Wraith’s upper deck, their footsteps sounding softly against the worn planks. The staircase was positioned near the centre of the storage area, its thick wooden steps illuminated by moonlight filtering through the slatted openings overhead. At the bottom, they turned left, carefully making their way around a large, iron-banded chest that sat against the wall. The chest was old and heavily built, its dark wood scratched and weathered from years aboard the ship. Amelia moved first, while Estrela followed close behind, both navigating the cramped space toward the foreground of the room. The storage area was crowded but orderly, with supplies secured wherever space allowed.Several large wooden barrels stood along the left-hand wall; their rounded sides bound with dark metal bands. Smaller crates and chests were stacked nearby, while coils of rope and assorted nautical equipment were tucked beneath benches a

“He is gone, Emile,” Mar said, his voice rough. He did not look at her. He could not. “Do not warry about him.” Amelia’s hands were steady as she adjusted a blanket around Emile, her green eyes never leaving the girl’s face. “He was strong. He will hold on,” she said softly, though the way she said it lacked conviction. Luz looked up from the bench, his crimson eyes catching the dim lantern light. “The sea does not care about strength,” he said, his voice devoid of pity. “It only cares about what it can keep.” Estrela flinched at the words, her gaze dropping to the deck. Amelia loosened the ropes around Emile. “The darkness has faded,” Emile muttered. “It is returning to the shadows, and the hum of the gold king is gone.”Mar froze. He knelt beside his daughter, his hands hovering near Emile’s face, afraid to touch her but unable to pull away. “The gold king?” he

“Look at them? They are not helping her!” Salvaxe shouted. One of the dock workers turning his head toward them, his neck moving with a slow, mechanical precision. His eyes were glassy, reflecting the sunset like polished stone. Estrella stood by the fountain’s edge, watching the struggle with the same calm, terrifying smile. She did not move to help. She did not even look surprised. “She is just accepting the gift,” Estrela began, but before she could say anything else Salvaxe moved toward the fountain. He moved with precision, stepping into the fountain to lift Emile’s limp body out of the water and places it on the floor before freezing. Salvaxe’s body locked tight, his muscles seizing into a rigid statue. His eyes remained wide, fixed on Emile, who he had just pulled from the water, but they were vacant– the light in them dimming like a candle being smothered. Emile began to cough– a wet, rattling sound&n

The moment Amelia turned her back; something shifted in Luz’s posture. His gauntleted fingers tightened around the reins, the black leather groaning in protest.
