..*Splash*

The cold, icy feel of the water splashed on Oliver Reed shocked him awake. Oliver sat up immediately upon getting splashed awake. When he sat up and opened his eyes to get his bearings, he noticed he was naked, covered by a bedsheet in a hotel room.

"What the hell? Where am I? Why am I naked in this room?" Oliver was too shocked to understand the situation surrounding him. He then turned to his left; and to his utter shock, there was a young woman, with a towel wrapped around her body, sitting on the edge of the bed beside him.

"Woken up, already? You cheating bastard!!" a lady standing in front of them screamed out loud. Oliver turned his attention to the front of him and saw his wife, Christina Conners standing in front of him.

Christina then turned to the woman who was sitting on the bed and said, "You may go. Thanks for your help." The woman nodded and walked out of the hotel room.

"What the hell is going on, Christina? Do you know this woman?" Oliver asked in utter shock. "Not really, She was just a tool... a tool I used to annul this sham of a marriage." Christina replied coldly.

"How could you do this? All this time I have been nothing but faithful to you!" Oliver shouted in dismay and sadness.

"Oh please, a broke idiot like you, who grew up in an orphanage with a poor job that pays a measly salary? What can you do for me?" mocked Christina harshly.

"Don't forget, I come not only from a rich family, us Conners are the second most powerful family in all of Metro City."

"With all the connections we have with most of the big companies in the city, you can count yourself lucky to have a janitor job in the business district." said Christina's sister Lacy, who was standing beside Christina the whole time.

"It's your word against ours. Who do you think people will believe" asked Christina smugly. "Sis, how did you even marry a pauper like this bozo for three years?" Lacy asked jokingly, mocking Oliver in the process.

"Hah, he's not marriage material. I was just bored. Besides, we are all still young, I can always find a similar aged guy who is more well off that this beggar." replied Christina heartlessly.

"So you deliberately set me up with this charade... just so you can divorce me?" Oliver asked with tears in his eyes.

"Quit crying, you piece of shit. You should be grateful that we Connors even let you through the front gate of our mansion."

"And like my sister said, it's your word against ours. Who do you think my family will believe?" replied Christina with no remorse.

"The sight of you makes the whole Connors family sick to our stomachs. The sooner we get rid of you, the better." added Lacy.

"Enough talk." said Christina. She then took out a document and pen and threw it at Oliver.

"That's our divorce agreement. You will sign it right now. After you sign it, you will not return to the Connor Mansion ever again. You will also receive nothing monetary from the Connors." Christina ordered.

"If you refuse to sign it, I will send the photos I have taken from your sweet slumber with that slut to your workplace. Don't forget, we have connections there too." Lacy blackmailed.

"I can't believe you are so heartless. After all I have done for this family, living lower than your servants, not making a scene despite that, you still want to get rid of me." Oliver was too angry to think straight.

He then looked at the divorce agreement that Christina threw at him. He had never wanted to divorce her; but her heartless, remorseless actions, seconded by her equally evil sister, left him no other choice.

Reluctantly, Oliver took the pen and, with shaky breaths, signed his name on the divorce agreement. Christina, after making sure she Oliver put his signature on the divorce agreement, snatched the document back from him.

Lacy then took a big plastic bag and threw it at Oliver. "We already took the liberty to pack your disgusting clothes into this bag. You had better get dressed before you catch a cold."

"Come on, sis. We got what we wanted. Let's get out of this place. I can't stand the stench of this loser any longer." said Lacy. Both Christina and Lacy then turned around and left the hotel room.

Oliver took a few minutes to collect himself, before he decided to take a hot, quick shower and dress up immediately. Just as he was about to leave the dreaded hotel room, he received a message on his phone.

The message was from his boss. He sent photo attachments of Oliver's "one wild night" with the hired lady. It turns out that Lacy lied to Oliver.

After she and Christina left the hotel, Lacy secretly forwarded the photos to Oliver's boss, citing that Oliver cheated on his now ex-wife Christina.

There was a written message after the photos were sent to Oliver. It read: "You do not need to come to work tomorrow. I will not accept cheating losers like you. You are fired!"

"If you show up at my office ever again, I will press full charges against you for trespassing! Good riddance!"

That message sent Oliver over the edge. In a fit a rage, Oliver grabbed his belongings and stormed out of the hotel room and to the reception, looking for Lacy. He did not care if he loses his life. He was going to make Lacy pay for her costing him his job.

When Oliver reached the reception, he looked left and right wildly, with his eyes bulged wide in anger. Unfortunately for him, Lacy and Christina were long gone.

"Sir. Can I help you?" one of the hotel staff approached Oliver. Seeing the hotel staff beside him, Oliver knew better and calmed himself down. "No, it's ok. I'll be leaving the hotel now." replied Oliver dejectedly and made his way out of the hotel.

As Oliver wondered the streets of Metro City, reality just set in for him. He was now jobless, homeless, divorced and broke. Tears of a broken man flowed down his face as he continued to wander the streets.

Just then, Oliver’s phone rang. When he took it out and check his phone, he realized it was the hospital. Immediately, Oliver thought that the hospital was calling about the outstanding amount to treat his benefactor from the orphanage he grew up from, Mrs. Theresa.

“Hello?” Oliver answered worryingly. “Mr. Reed. I’m calling from the Metro City Hospital. It’s regarding Mrs. Theresa.” greeted the receptionist.

“Yes, I’m aware about the outstanding payment. Give me two days, please.” Oliver pleaded over the phone.

“Well, Mr. Reed, I don’t know how to say this; but..."

'Oh! Lacy has been gossiping to grandpa. I have to shut her stupid mouth somehow.' thought Christina after she heard Thomas's question. "Hah, that's what this is about, grandpa? Come on, you know how Lacy is. She is our family's gossip queen for a reason." said Christina light-heartedly. "To answer your question directly, grandpa, no I am not seeing or dating anyone; and quite honestly, with our war with Townsville and the Quinton Consortium already underway, I have no time to date anyone." she replied Thomas. Thomas in turn nodded in approval, "Well, I am glad to know that your head is in the right place. Alright, Christina, before I go meet your grandma, I have something to share with you. Have a seat." Christina looked surprised for a split second. However, in order not to give Thomas any hint of suspicion, she promptly obeyed her grandfather. After all, if Thomas wanted to share something with her personally, it must have been something of utmost importance. "My dear granddau

"Brother Derek, did I hear that right?" Charles was shocked when he heard Derek's request, as did everyone else. Derek knew that they echoed Charles's sentiments just by the expressions on their faces."We all busted our butts to put that evil queen to jail with all her cronies; and now you want us to pay her a visit?" exclaimed Peter, sounding very cross with his son for the first time.Derek calmly replied, "Dad, I know this is not going to be a friendly visit...""No kidding, it's not!" Peter retorted."Honey, let's hear him out first." said Lea, calming her husband down."Let me ask everyone here, if you were me, after experiencing all the recent events; and after hearing grandma's story, would you take a chance and rule Aunty Pamela out of this equation?""Trust me, dad. I don't like to make this request any more than everyone likes hearing me say it. All I am doing here is covering all bases." said Derek.Madam Louise concurred, "I understand where you are coming from, my dear b

"Speak your mind, son. What has got you so confused to this state?" asked Peter. Derek took a moment to collect his thoughts before addressing the people in his office. "Everyone. The events that had happened involving all of us and our family and friends have not connected. At least, in my mind." Derek replied summarily.Charles was intrigued. "Which events, brother? Hash it out so that we can discuss this."Derek nodded, "Originally, when grandma, you and I started this, it was meant to be a plan to reconnect and reunite with Oliver.""We were very fortunate to know that Christina, his ex-wife really loved him and was forced to set him up so we can reunite with him."But recently, things have been getting more and more fuzzy. Firstly, ever since we got Oliver back on his feet, everyone from his past has been swarmed towards him.""Then came the Phoenix Mafia's involvement with the Krauser Kartel's war with the Connors. By the time Oliver left Sharon's office, the article done up by Christina and Lacy had been released to the viewing public of Metro City. This was a great opportunity for Oliver to observe the people around him and have an indication of what the Metro City public thought of him and the Connors. As he took a stroll, invisible in the public eye, Oliver's jade ring suddenly glowed again. This time, the activated ring enhanced Oliver's listening and observation powers.Everyone were on their phones as they took their time to digest the content of the Connors' news release of his alleged death. As Oliver continued walking, he noticed that some people reacted negatively towards him. He could hear mumbles of individuals saying he deserved to die and that the Connors were in the right. Some others were nonchalant about the news release. In Oliver's mind, it was probably because they were the everyday folk, worried about their own well being over others. The majority of his survey, though, we

Ding! An email notification appeared on Sharon's laptop screen and interrupted her thoughts on how she wanted to reply to Yuriko's allegations. "We'll continue this later." said Sharon as she opened the email on her laptop. It was none other than Christina's news article forwarded to her, as promised. 'Expect the article to hit the internet today. It's rather scathing because of Lacy's contributions. I'm not sure how you are going to release a media to counter ours; but you'll have to.' 'Please forward this to Oliver as well. It's best if he gets kept in the loop, too. Good luck.' That was Christina's message in her email to Sharon. "Here, Yuriko. Take a look at this." said Sharon as she turned her laptop screen to face Yuriko. "Wow. These Connors really do not know when to quit. We really need to put them in their place somehow." said Yuriko with a tinge of anger in her voice. "We will." replied Sharon. She then forwarded Christina's email to Oliver before turning her attentio
