Thirty

My reflexes took over. I slowly withdrew the sword from my waist.

 With a trembling hand, I wound up, closed my eyes, said a word of prayer—I'm giving this my all cause it's all I've got to do to keep if not myself but Luna alive. I took a step forward, and hurled.

The sword sailed through the air and hit its mark. A perfect shot. It hit the beast in its eyeball, driving through to its brain.

Well, I didn't get what I expected, the beast shriek filled the air. It sounded like the roar of thousands of lions. I watched the beast struggle with the sword on its head. I knew what was coming but was completely hopeless. That sword was the only weapon I had. To my ultimate surprise, the beast was back in shape in minutes and my sword laid on the ground broken by it.
