[Searching For Answers]

SIERRA

She’s not here. I thought to myself as I let out a gut-wrenching howl. My body plummeted to the floor as fear gripped me. A sense of dread washed over me like icy water. My heart pounded furiously in my chest.

Sebastian collapsed beside me and pulled me into his arms. He held me tight and whispered words of comfort in my ear, assuring me we would not stop until we found her.

I cried and cried, feeling my heart break piece by piece as fear wracked my body for my missing pup. Through my tears, I looked at the sky and begged for an answer. But there was none; instead, only another howl rent through the air.

I never knew such pain. All my life, people around me died and went away. Yet, nothing prepared me for the emptiness of not knowing where my child could be. Perhaps this was what my mother felt when she hadn’t heard from me for those two months. That all-consuming emptiness, eating away at any hope you might have had. ​
