🦋 BENITA 🦋

I have never been more stunned in my life. For the first time in forever, Felix stood up to his grandmother, an eye for an eye. With the look on her face and the bombastic side eye she gave me, I was aware she was going to make me pay for it.

She gave me a face that said, “This is all your fault you bitch.”

Felix stepped in front of me, cutting the threatening glances the chairwoman gave me.

“I have always done whatever you asked of me, hoping you would one day recognise and accept me as your grandson. I let you turn me into the perfect CEO you think I should be, because I felt I owed that to you,” Felix voiced. “You would never accept me as a son, so now I'll stop trying to gain your approval and do whatever I choose to.”

“I now have something I don't wanna lose, and she's standing right there,” Felix added, gawking at me.

The chairwoman's face reddened with rage as Felix stood firm, refusing to back down. "How dare you disobey me!" She thundered, her voice echoing throu

🦋 BENITA 🦋I arrived at the office alarmed; it was either the chairwoman or Rose - one of them had done something wrong, I was sure about that.As I walked through, my colleague’s eyes were wide with worry, their faces pale and drawn. They avoided eye contact with me, their gazes darting away as if afraid to hold my gaze for too long. Some took a step back, their bodies tense and alert, as if preparing for a threat.I noticed some people gathered, staring at the announcement board, so I walked towards them. When they saw me, they shifted, and I looked at the announcement written boldly on the board.“Benita James, promoted to Vice President,” I read out loud.My eyes widened in surprise as I read it again, “Vice president?” I blinked, taken aback. "How?" I thought, confusion etched on my face.My ex-colleague rushed towards me, some even took my hands to show affection, “Ma, I'm glad you are here, we all missed you.” They muttered, grinning shamelessly.I rolled my eyes in disgust,

🦋 BENITA 🦋 I was adamant about working, no matter how much Felix tried to stop me; he would always say, “I can't protect you at work or in public, because in that world, Rose Fred is the wife I married… whatever she does would be right in their eyes. Stay home, I'll protect you here.”But all the freaking time, after he makes that statement, I end up turning down his request.I wanted to be financially stable, but now I'm mentally unstable too.I needed a lot of money, and I wanted to work for it.Rose is doing anything and everything to kick me out of the picture, with the chairwoman backing her up, she feels in power, so she has made making my life miserable her top priority.I walked out of the mansion for work to find Rose waiting beside her car.“I had to wait for Felix to leave, to confront you when you are alone,” she blurted out.I looked around, “What, you think the men he left behind are strong statues meant to decorate the garden? You think they'll neglect their job and

🦋 BENITA 🦋I’ve never felt better. When Rose returned, I thought it was really over, and for the first time in forever, I felt like I was home.I gently stroked his hair, my fingers tracing the lines of his forehead. With a soft touch, I patted his back, the rhythmic motion calming his tense muscles. As he settled into the pillow, his eyelids began to droop, and his breathing slowed."Sleep tight," I whispered, my voice barely audible. As I stood up to leave, he dragged me back, and I fell on him.“No, Benita, you are not leaving me tonight.” He whispered.I chuckled softly, “I’m not leaving you tonight,” I repeated. We stayed in that position for a while, finally… no more walking on eggshells, but there were questions I had always wanted to ask, so I asked about it anyway.“About your dad,” I began, “When he died, didn't you want to kill me?”“You did nothing wrong,” he responded.“I know, but when you thought I did,” I muttered. His eyes slowly opened, “Strangely, I never thought

🦋 BENITA 🦋 Since my runaway plan was a complete failure, I thought that at least my life would go back to its normal routine.Going to work, coming home and going to bed. So I woke up very early and prepared for work. When I got out to leave, six men were standing at the entrance to the mansion.“Did he increase the security in the house so I won't run away again?” I thought and scoffed, “What's the need? They could stay outside.”As I approached the door, his men blocked it, I stood there stunned.“What are you doing?” I asked calmly.“You are not allowed to step out of this house, ma'am,” the one in front retorted.“I'm not running away,” I explained. “I'm simply leaving for work. I understand your boss threatened your life when I left, but you found me, didn't you? I'm just going to work; I'll be back soon.”I stepped forward again, but they refused to step aside. “I'm telling you I won't run away,” I snapped, “I give you my word, so step aside.”The front man inhaled sharply, “

🦋 BENITA 🦋 Rather than being a mess, my life was fun for the first time since I was 10. It's been from pain to pain since the death of my mother.I entered the mini studio I had rented, and my spirit, body, and soul screamed freedom.I got a drink and turned the music on, screaming, dancing and jumping around.“I'm free! I'm free! Freedom!”At that moment, I was on top of the world, I couldn't wish for anything more.I had enough money, and now I had a space of my own; I was going to start a sweet, soft life. Trapped? That's past tense now, it's all in the past.Deep down, I felt like I left something behind.“Of course I did,” I told myself, “All the clothes, shoes and bags Felix bought for me.”But that wasn't the case, and I knew. But what's life without having something to deny?Fuck everyone! I'm free and I'm never going back.It was 2 am, I didn't stop drinking and jumping around, it's either that I was too happy or too anxious. Suddenly, a knock sounded on the door, and I f
