Chapter 3

Su Kexin knew that this restaurant was not cheap, but she did not think it would be this ridiculously expensive.

“If you have questions, you can check the bill, miss.”

Su Kexin was in no mood to check the bill. Of course, she knew that this restaurant would not try to scam her, but she was troubled because she just paid her mother’s medical fees yesterday, so she did not have that much money in her bank card. As for her credit cards, they were frozen a long time ago.

“Um…” Su Kexin gathered her guts, her face burning red as she said, “Could I… put it on a tab first?”

The waiter blinked for a bit, but then his expression quickly turned cold. “Sorry, miss, we don’t do that here. If you can’t pay, then I’m sorry but we’ll have to pursue other means to settle this.”

Su Kexin grew a little anxious and was beginning to think where she could borrow that sum when she suddenly heard a deep and melodious voice from behind her—

“I’ll pay for this young lady."

Su Kexin paused and turned around, only to see that the man in the wheelchair who had come in earlier was now right behind her.

His expression was still cold and distant, but his hand was raised slightly, and he held a golden credit card between his well-defined fingers.

The waiter paused for a while as well, but he quickly recovered and took the card from the man respectfully.

"Mister, you don't have to…" Su Kexin finally recovered and wanted to stop them, but the waiter had already left with the card.

Su Kexin was somewhat at a loss now, but she knew that she did not have the money to pay the bill, so she could only look at the distant man and say awkwardly, "Um… I'll pay you back, mister. Could you give me your phone or bank account number? I'll transfer the money back to you soon."

It was only at Su Kexin's words that the man raised his head slightly, his gaze landing on her.

The man was clearly sitting in a wheelchair, but when their eyes met, Su Kexin felt as though he was looking down at her from above.

Su Kexin's heart gave a little jolt.

She was in the journalism field, so she had seen plenty of hotshots, but this man's aura still gave her an unspeakable sense of pressure.

Aside from that, the man's gaze was extremely cold as well, as though he did not care about anything that happened around him.

That confused Su Kexin even more. Why would a man like this help her of his own accord?

While Su Kexin was lost in her random thoughts, the man spoke slowly,

"Do you have a pen and paper?"

The man's voice was very low and somewhat hoarse, like the highest-quality swan down.

Su Kexin finally returned to her senses. She thought the man was going to write down his bank account number for her, so she hurriedly took a pen and notebook out of her bag and handed them to him.

The man took the pen and quickly wrote a string of digits on Su Kexin's notebook before returning it to her.

When Su Kexin took the notebook back, she blinked.

"What's this?" The string of digits on the notebook was clearly no bank account number.

"That's my phone number." The man handed the pen back to Su Kexin as well, his expression still calm. "You can call this number once you have the money."

Su Kexin's face burned.

She had to admit that this man was extremely smart. He could tell at a glance that she could not afford to return him more than five thousand bucks.

What she did not understand was why he gave her his phone number instead of his bank account.

Su Kexin was sensitive by nature, and her thoughts went further than most people, but she could not bring herself to ask too much either. All she could do was take the notebook back and say softly, "Thanks."

With that, as though worried he would not believe her, Su Kexin took out her name card and handed it to him. "This is my name card."

"Su Kexin?" The man accepted the card and looked down at it, slowly saying Su Kexin's name. His hoarse and deep voice was like a feather that tickled Su Kexin's heart, leaving a soft numbness behind.

"Yeah, I'll contact you later then." Su Kexin pushed away the strange sensation in her heart and gave him one final quick assurance before getting up and leaving the restaurant.
