Chapter 1

Anniversary

|GLORY|

Being married to the man of your dreams is a gift that many do not have but I did. I considered it a win in this miserable life of mine. A bright smile curled at the edges of my lips as I stared at my wedding photos of Sean Kingston and I. My husband.

It has been five years of pure bliss with him and today clocked our fifth anniversary. Coupled with that, I have great news for him which I know he would be glad to hear.

I placed the photos into the box, letting out a sigh of satisfaction at the great job I had done. Having our room decorated for the night was hectic but I enjoyed every step of it. Today will not just mark another year for us to be together but start a new family.

Tears blurred my vision at the amount of joy coursing through me. Maybe it was the little bundles of joy I carried in my belly that were causing this but… a knock rapped on the door, interrupting my thoughts.

I twirled around, seeing as Mary stepped into the room, her mouth widening almost immediately. Surprise coated her face as she glanced at me. “You did a great job here, Glory! I'm sure Sean would like it here!” She commented.

I let out a chuckle at her, moving toward her steadily. “You should leave. No one is allowed to see the surprise I have for him.” I told her, pushing her out of the room and closing the door behind me.

“Really?” She rolled her eyes and I snorted before realizing something.

“Is everything ready?” I asked her.

She nodded. “Yes. We already placed your husband’s favorite wine at the center and the bouquet of flowers just beside it.” She stated.

“The meals?” I questioned as we moved toward the stairs.

“Laura and Harriet are handling it at the moment.” She replied.

We got to the living room and I looked up at the hidden decoration above us. I didn't know why I was feeling nervous about this.

To distract myself, I inspected what Mary had done and turned to her with an appreciative smile. “Thank you so much, Mary! You did a good job.” I commended her.

She waved her hand dismissively. “Don't thank me. I see you as my friend and I will always make sure you are happy.”

I met Mary when I got married to Sean. In the beginning, I was weary of her because Mary was a pretty lady with the best culinary skills I had ever come across but Sean had assured me that he only employed her because she knew her job. After that, Mary tried to get close to me and slowly, I loosened myself around her when I saw how impossible for her and Sean to be. I came to learn how Sean loved his food and why no regular cook could make his food to his liking.

I took my seat and poured myself some wine. Laura and Harriet stepped out of the kitchen and carefully placed the meals on the dining table.

I muttered some thank yous to them as I waited for Sean to return from his trip. Ignoring how my nerves were wreaking havoc on me, I decided to go on the internet and search for romantic anniversary texts.

I must have dozed off because I felt a tap on my shoulder and I raised my head to look at a worried Mary. Confusion creased between my brows as I dragged my gaze to the hanging wall clock. 12 AM!

I jerked to my feet immediately. “Is he back already?” I asked hurriedly as I looked around frantically, scared that I had missed the moment.

She caught me by the hand and I paused. Shaking her head with something like sadness in her eyes, I let out a deep breath. “You should have told me before I–”

The door creaked open and I gasped immediately, rushing to where the lights were. Clicking it on, I let out a scream. “Happy Anniversary, Sean!” A bright grin spread on my lips as my eyes fell on the man who was standing before me. Mary and the girls rushed forward, clapping their hands giddily.

His brows twitched, closing the door behind him and stepping further. I eagerly waited for what he was going to say.

Seconds passed and Sean was still staring at the decoration like it was foreign to him and his eyes fell on me like I was some stranger. A nervous laugh escaped from me, I glanced back at Mary who looked just as confused as the girls. Moving toward Sean, I said softly.

“Happy Anniversary, my love. You are the brightest star in my life and I want nothing more than to see you shine.” I reached to take his hand and he moved away, making the smile on my face falter.

Instantly, a sickening feeling settled in my belly and I retracted my hands. “Hmm… Mary made dinner,” I added quickly, gulping hard as I turned to the dining area.

“Mary,” His thick voice cut through the air and I halted to a stop, inhaling deeply. “Leave us.” He ordered.

“Y-Yes?” She stuttered. He flicked his gaze to her briefly, his eyes hardening.

“I said, leave us.” He bit out. The girls scurried alongside Mary back into the kitchen and my eyelids twitched, my chest heaving with heavy breaths.

“Glory,” He called my name like he had been calling my name these past few years.

I spun around immediately, rushing to him and grabbing him by the arm. “Today is our anniversary, Sean. I had Mary cook your favorite meals and also, I got your favorite brand of wine and flowers as well.” I rambled, leading him to the dining area.

“You know I was thinking of what to do to make our fifth-year anniversary special and I got us tickets to watch your all-time best movie!” I waved the tickets at him and I stopped grinning, dropping the tickets on the table.

“You must be tired from your trip,” I reached for the bottle of wine and poured some for him. “I had begged almost all the wine breweries to get this brand and they—”

“Glory, I want a divorce.”

My eyes moved up in their sockets, my hands trembled, and the wine glass in my hand fell to the floor and splattered. I flinched, maybe it was because of the sound or… what Sean just said.

“W-What?”
